Dylan is actually kinda right, Blu-ray winning is not going to effect the xbox 360 system sales, because the HD DVD player never sold anyway. only 2% of the 360s sold had an HD DVD player sold too.

Blu-Ray is very nice to have, but it winning the format war will not effect playback of games, and games are what make or break a console.

im not so sure... due to the fact that the Ps3 is still the cheapest blu-ray player available (espeically since price cuts), people may start leaning onto the way of buying Ps3's for the Blu-ray player. so despite 360 sales not ebing affected, it may have a bog effect on Ps3 sales. and online gaming? Home is coming soon on the Ps3 which will probably tromp over Xbox live frankly

This is troubling news for the 360. I love my 360 and I personally wouldn't mind if 360 had to switch to blu-ray, but my only concern is that Microsoft would make a new 360 (like the elite) that would only play blu-ray and all the new 360 games would be blu-ray... =(

I don't see them screwing their users so early in the game, seeing as some of their users just bought the system like year or so ago. I got a 360 a little after my ps3, I'd hate to buy a new system and then realize it's no good a 1-2 years later. Besides don't systems usually stick around for like 4-5 years? Releasing a new console so early may piss off some people(like not a good investment type thing). Unless I'm misunderstanding your post :S

You may be right also, they may need to release a new console. Games ARE getting more complex and they'll need more storage to fit the games in(blue-ray or a new format)rumors are they are struggling with fitting some games into DVDs, hence the reason some games are ps3 exclusive now(Haze/Wardevil/whatever else)ps3 really future-proofed itself by using blu-ray disks.

I agree that new formats such as blu-ray will take over DVD really soon. However, I find that multi-platform 360/PS3 games are mostly the same, even though the 360 uses DVD9. I'm not a fanboy by the way, I own all 3 current-gen consoles. Love them all equally. I just think that blu-ray at its current state isn't being used as an advantage. It will, eventually.

yeh, I know i'm just stating the obvious, they future proofed themselves... dvd9's as I understand, have the compacity of 8.5gb dual-layered or something right? Whereas the blu-ray has 25gb single-layered and so on. I know the 360 will still be around, It's just that in the future they might need to use more than one disc when it comes to the higher-end games.

Yep, DVD's will die off, but the thing is that most developers don't even know how to use the advantage of more space on the PS3 (BR).

In that case, if Xbox doesn't start upgrading their discs and plan to stick w/ their DVDs then their games might have to be released w/ multiple discs in ea. box like how the PS1 was back then. Therefore, doesn't that mean they'll have to spend more money producing discs for games?

You got it right with the PS3! Blu-Ray is about to win the format war. Toshiba is going to end its support for HD-DVD and has already shut dowm one of its major plants in Japan. Looks like Blu-Ray will is the hd format of the future.
