I just have a quick question: I was looking at some close ups of the EV1 electric car. I noticed that in the middle of the console there was a automatic shifter. Now the question I have is why? I have read a book on how to convert your car into electric, and have had several EV people say that doing a manual is just more efficient, it says that doing an automatic drivetrain would cause the electric motor to have to run consantly and "waste" energy. Someone please explain.
I have been taking the bus for over one year. It does require advanced planning, google helps, but OCTA provides texting for the times of the next 3 busses from your stop. OCTA was pretty good until recent cuts. It is great for a commute to school or work. I do have access to cars for everything else. I am hoping to get a Leaf in the fall.
Whenever someone tells me that EVs are dirty because of coal I tell them that EVs are about 80% efficient and gas cars are about 30% efficient. That normally shuts them up. If it doesn't then I tell them it is easier to clean up the grid then it is to clean up the fleet.
