You should see how North Carolinians react to snow. We may have an excuse because our climate is normally warm, but it's just as ridiculous. Students angrily calling their universities to ask why they're opening late instead of closing for the day, when there's barely 2 cm of snow and the roads are clear. The mere sight of a single snowflake can cause them to instantly forget how to drive, and begin hoarding the bread and milk.
It was horrifying, I woke up, I looked outside...I couldn't see...I couldn't see anything but 20cm of snow. I didn't know what to do, I cried,it was just such an emotional moment because there was snow...in TORONTO. I mean it was just ridiculous, how do you even have snow in Toronto. UNACCEPTABLE.
I love Toronto, everyone else may be making fun of the fact that everything got shut down for 20cm of snow but were the ones that got the extra day off for nothing
Sadly it was the media and the reporting that caused all the hype..... Torontonians and ppl of the GTA were fine! Goes to show you that it is a great City when all the media had to Go on and on about was a simple snowfall!!
Toronto is probably the city that's least emblematic of Canada in the entire country. Ridiculous stuff like this just proves that point. And yes, it's satire. There is truth in it though.
well I'm in Vancouver and I know that it sounds silly to freak out and close schools when it snows, but there are no resources to clean the snow off the roads so it turns to a big ice sheet. Very dangerous. So shaddup!! lol
@Nikinikas lol That's in the far north, and several decades ago (except some people still build them when they go out trapping). For most of the country we all... you can't seriously think Canadians live in iglus can you???? Where did you go to school???! I can just see it now - teenagers whipping out their cellphones in the spring going, "my house is melting! my house is melting!"
Good satire... I think what creeped people out was the vast size of this storm. Plus Cyclone Yasi with 300 k/hr winds was winding up for Australia. Human beings are uniquely and subconsciously interconnected. Major physical and political events in the world are happening in tighter and tighter increments of time these days.
When I was a master's degree student in the mid 70's they had one snowfall that shut down the city. People were cross country skiiing down Yonge Street and the few cars trying to drive got stuck at the corners. I even had a TV camera thrust in my face asking what brought me downtown on such a snowy day. I told them I just wanted to see what other idiots were out on a day like this. They shut down the city over such a trivial thing as snow. This is CANADA, PEOPLE.
I did live inToronto in the 80s and they had snow every winter when i lived there. I dont understand the big deal spoofed in video,I didnt know Toronto never had snow!

c'mon man c'mon it was 20cm and we don't usually see that amount of snow here...the last time we got something like that was back in 2008...n we didnt overreact..just being careful
If you look at the dates, you will see that this is from 2008 (not sure really if that's when it first aired or when it was first posted on YouTube .. it is not a current broadcast clip.

Ive just been sent this from my Cousin in Canada. I thought he was taking the piss out of us in the UK over our pathetic performance over xmas's weather. I's all about scale innit? We'll probably not have any snow again for 15yrs and so we won't buy the right gear to shift the white stuff--then get caught out again. Good satire though.
@MrDaiseymay This is really just making fun of Toronto, In the rest of Canada we laugh at them when it comes to this subject because they always over react to snow there because they don't get as much as the rest of us. It all started in 1999 when the mayor asked the army to come and help with the snow removal after they had a big storm.
So dumb, Environment Canada Decalared Toronto ''GTA'' under winter storm warning and snow fall amounts up to 30 cm. and in the morning close to 8 cm was on the ground, and by the end of it 10 cm..
@zabppl yeahhh... no ocean, no mountains, just smoggy air. no cottage country unless you drive several hours through traffic. @iLuvBarRefaeli Actually, you'd be surprised. Because of the mall we have here, when I mention I live in Edmonton I usually get asked how awesome the mall is.
Canada is a BIG country. Bigger than the US. Not all of Canada suffers from snow. In fact, where I live in Vancouver, there is far less (seldom ever... did you watch the Olympics?) snow in the city. Seattle to the south gets a lot more snow than we do. Practically all of the norther US gets more snow than us.

i don't think people realize, that hospitals are able to stay open in small towns in part by transfers of tax dollars from the GTA across the province. The economy of the city is essential to the well being of the province. In 1999 the army was brought in to get the city back to work faster, not to save people from snow. The trickle down effect is serious. The more days the Toronto economy is stunted by weather, the more people die on the streets, the less services are available in small towns.
I've lived from Winnipeg to Texas to Ottawa toToronto and I know a snow storm when I see one. Please don't get so emotional about this, IT'S FUN. This was totally bang on. Love it. Get a grip people! Is snow really news? I mean seriously, it's not like dictators are falling like dominos in the middle east or anything!
This was totally bang on. Love it. Get a grip people! Is snow really news? I mean seriously, it's not like dictators are falling like dominos in the middle east or anything!
It's not only in Canada. I'm originally from upstate New York but now live in the middle east. It's such a joke to hear people in New York State freaking out because "There's gonna be snow!" Not to sound insensitive, but it happens every year at winter time, folks. There's no shock or drama here.
LMAO.. If 1/2 the populaton lived here (in Canada) 20/30 yrs ago, they'd know a really winter... Winters now a days is nothing compared to back then. Media hypes it up. Makes it worse than what it actuall is.
@g4tech hahahaha well looks like their forecast was wrong but still they need an army , btw i m from toronto and i m sick of their overreacting behavior on weather. if there is a forecast of 5 cm of snow, they would cry for the whole day on tv news, its gonna snow , its gona snow. like it is the end of the world :DDDD
This was hysterical. "Where's the army??" Probably hiding out in the woods somewhere, going, "Please, NO MORE CALLS FROM TORONTO! GET A GRIP, PEOPLE!!"
this is awesome! I make fun of my friends and family back home when they complain about snow and the "severe" weather warnings they get that really don't compare with what we get in North Bay
haha same, i have a few american relatives who come up during the christmas holidays and all they do is whine and complain, and i tell them, "this is canada, the true north strong and free, and the REAL home of the brave.. suck it up"
@Robynowitz haha... I'm from North Bay! omg, so funny.. we got about a foot of snow in Ottawa today, and everyone was freaking out saying we needed a snow day... I want to see all these people in North Bay.
@dramaking33 LOL MAN THATS THE POINT IT ALWAYS SNOWS IN TORONTO!!! drama you must be american hey? heehee ya us Canadians have a different sense of humour I guess! :D
For anyone who doesn't really get this video. Toronto does get snow, but usually only a tiny bit, a dusting. In this video they were referring to a large snowfall that the city was totally unprepared for. They actually did need to call in the army to shovel snow.

we dont often get a lot of snow in Toronto, but when we do, the city people act like its some kind of disaster - this is just a show made by Canadians laughing at ourselves.
@DavidAdjeyTHEOPENER i noe...i woke up this morning and there wuz like 5 cm on the ground when they said on tv that there was gonna be like 20cm...LIARS!!!...i still went to work though...but the roads wer deserted...
@dramaking33 Canada has a reputation for being pussies about snow ever since our conservative mayor called in the military just to dig us out of the snow back in '97
LOL! So hilarious! I love the tragic documentary style.

HAHAHA! I lifted my blinds and there is a heavy blanket of snow on the ground :P Got to love living in our hometown Toronto.

LOL! Too true - some reputations are hard to live down.
And I agree: I personally am not a fan of winter but I love this country.

@g4tech OH SHADDAAAAAAP! You is gonna need more small town skoolin if yer gonna talk like dat.
BeeRich33 1 year ago
@g4tech probably the most underwhelming discovery was looking outside this morning and instead of seeing 15cm of snow, I saw about 2, maybe 3cm..
smokydave 1 year ago
@g4tech hahahaha well looks like their forecast was wrong but still they need an army , btw i m from toronto and i m sick of their overreacting behavior on weather. if there is a forecast of 5 cm of snow, they would cry for the whole day on tv news, its gonna snow , its gona snow. like it is the end of the world :DDDD

This was hysterical. "Where's the army??" Probably hiding out in the woods somewhere, going, "Please, NO MORE CALLS FROM TORONTO! GET A GRIP, PEOPLE!!"

this is awesome! I make fun of my friends and family back home when they complain about snow and the "severe" weather warnings they get that really don't compare with what we get in North Bay

haha same, i have a few american relatives who come up during the christmas holidays and all they do is whine and complain, and i tell them, "this is canada, the true north strong and free, and the REAL home of the brave.. suck it up"
Fundamenski 1 year ago
@Robynowitz haha... I'm from North Bay! omg, so funny.. we got about a foot of snow in Ottawa today, and everyone was freaking out saying we needed a snow day... I want to see all these people in North Bay.

For anyone who doesn't really get this video. Toronto does get snow, but usually only a tiny bit, a dusting. In this video they were referring to a large snowfall that the city was totally unprepared for. They actually did need to call in the army to shovel snow.

@dramaking33 its a joke man
we dont often get a lot of snow in Toronto, but when we do, the city people act like its some kind of disaster - this is just a show made by Canadians laughing at ourselves.

@dramaking33 Canada has a reputation for being pussies about snow ever since our conservative mayor called in the military just to dig us out of the snow back in '97
