  • Ian Somerhalder disliked this video.

  • The author of 'The Northern Lights' off which the film 'The Golden Compass' was based, wrote 'Daemon' in the book. It was pronounced 'dee-mon' in the movie, and the author of the book actually wrote that it was to be pronounced as 'dee-mon'.

    This is correct.

  • @42JohnnySmith "ae" may stand for "ä" for wich I dont know an equivalent in English and is used, when the letter "ä" can't be used but if its on purpose then the letters "a" and "e" are pronounced separately like the "oe" in "Goethe". Pronouncing it like the English word "demon" is simply wrong.

  • @narutokage777 I'm German. I know that it is the equivalent. :) But this word ist not German and therefore has to be pronounced like an American. For English people, this is right.

  • da-re-mon.. DA RE MON~

  • There's a video on YouTube, I think it might have been in the George W. Bush movie. GW is debating a professor on something. Of course, George W. Bush pronounces it nu-cu-lar, when most people say nu-cle-ar. After having a huge fit about pronunciation, the professor is told to leave the room and take time off.

When questioned by one of his supporters,GW cites that he knew how to say it correctly, but did it so that someone who thought pronunciation nitpicking was smart made a fool of himself.

  • DIAMONDS

  • Team American English: "MYAD NYAMIN!"

  • I am Korean and I can confirm this is not accurate.

  • Matt Dee Mon

  • This is just an archaic spelling of "demon", both of which are pronounced the same way.

  • What kind of gay english is that?

  • @sampflyingknife actual English, maybe ask yourself what kind of "gay" English do you speak yourself?

  • @daco420 i speak american english.

  • @sampflyingknife thats nice, irrelevant though as its pronounced deemon in American and British English

  • @daco420 "Deemon" in Estonian is actually demon :D lawl, never pronounced it like this tho

  • Why do these videos have so many dislikes?

  • @luvkirby4ever some people cannot pronounce words properly, when they look up how to and don't like what they find they resort to disliking the video. that's my guess

  • Tools

  • its DAEMON you know, its like saying DIAMOND

  • So the 40k spelling is official?

  • @anangrygoldfish 40k rocks, not as much as fantasy thought imo. (daemon is an older way of spelling demon, pronounced the same)

  • daemon tools

  • how to say demon??

  • God Hand anyone?

  • I have analyzed all of the words he pronounces and have come to this conclusion:

Pronunciation Book is in his early 20s and studying philosophy at some American university. He is a pompous fellow who believes that he's all that and a bag of chips, and to top it all off, he's a Weaboo.

  • @TheseareStrange Nope.

  • @TheseareStrange Correct.

  • the ae dipthong makes an "ai" sound in latin.

  • i say Matt Daymen

  • Can you please make a video of ''How to pronounce Ouija'' ? =D

  • @MrGuitarrica I'll save you the trouble. "Ouija" is pronounced "WEE-juh."

Also, you guys can quit fighting, Wikipedia has "daemon" listed as being pronounced both "DAY-mon" and "DEE-mon."

    Personally, I say "DAY-mon."

  • @mickeymouse12678 Thanks man! =)

I really appreciate your effort =)

  • @MrGuitarrica No prob. :D

  • @mickeymouse12678 can stop fighting cos its pronounced deemon, and anyone that pronounces it day mon is simply mispronouncing it. Wikipedia is crap, there's a reason no college will let you use it as a source of info.

better off using a dictionary. i challenge you to find one that pronounces it daymon

  • @daco420 Oh God--another person who thinks that everything on Wikipedia is wrong.

Okay... I'll show you two random websites with both pronunciations (I used a URL shortener):

    qr(dot)net/fc34

    qr(dot)net/fc33

  • @mickeymouse12678 i cant unshorten them, not valid urls. what sites are they so i can have a look?

  • @daco420 What do you mean they are not valid? I typed them in just now and they worked just fine. The real URL's would be too long.

Simply replace (dot) with a .

  • @mickeymouse12678 interesting, "introduced to computing by CTSS people (who pronounced it /dee'mon/), Although the meaning and the pronunciation have drifted." ill stick with deemon since thats how longman, Macmillan, oxford, Merriam-Webster pronounce it as well as several more. plus for some reason it does my nut thinking that a bunch of programmers can come along and change how a word is said either through mispronunciation or an acronym. now if i can just get oxford to remove bootylicious..

  • @daco420 Yeah. I'm guessing most of the people that pronounce it "daemon" are referring to something relating to computers.

Haha! I didn't know bootylicious was in the dictionary. :D

  • @mickeymouse12678 lol i know language has to change and dictionaries reflect that but it dont mean i have to like it! mankini, retweet, tanorexic and jeggings are some new ones added too ) maybe someday urban dictionary will be no.1 !

  • @daco420 You're being serious right? Mankini, retweet, tanorexic, jeggins???

    LOL!

Yeah... urban dictionary is usually where I go for that sort of thing.

  • diner, dimmer, dinner

  • Daedra

    Day-dra

  • @BigPalookaalt That's some american shit, from the Elder Scrolls

  • sabintr is wrong. Daemon has the exact same sound and meaning as Demon.

  • ....with a america accent

  • I always pronounced that way of spelling as day-eh-mon, it's just the way of pronouncing it that I find fun. It's kind of like saying English words in the Engrish pronunciation.

  • Y U NO FUNNI?!

  • SATAN!

  • WHAT IS THIS HERESY?! BURN THE HERETIC!

  • I'm fucking Matt Daemon

  • lol matt demond

  • themon

  • Look up Daemon (Classical Mythology) on Wikipedia (won't let me link it).

    Sorry, bro, it's /daimon/.

  • Demon, unless you have something with both Demons and Daemons, then I guess Daimon or Daymon might work to set them apart. (With the latter being the most logical alternate one)

  • Its 'Demon' guys this is just the american way of spelling.

  • @Rollthebuddah Nah, it's a Latinised version of the Greek spelling daimon.

  • TECHNICALLY it's "demon". But after years of people saying it like retards, we have "day-mon".

Do you say "ay-ther" for aether? What about "encyclo-pay-dia"? Nope. But you're all gonna go on saying "day-mon" and there's nothing I can do about it.

In the same way that "data" is pronounced "day-ta", but fuck all if you see that anymore either. That one's Hollywood's fault.

  • @Karanime I say ay-ther actually, thanks for pointing that out.

  • @Karanime Different types of daemons.

  • @Karanime Actually I pronounce it ay-ther.

  • @Karanime yeah? that's why you just spelled out "gonna" instead of going to. Please don't be a smart ass about it.

  • @Karanime Here in the UK we still say "Dee-mun" and "day-ta".

  • @Karanime Actually, by the latin origin it should be pronounced "dah-ee-mon" (like diamond without the last d). And "data" is, by the original latin, "dah-tah".

  • @Karanime Language evolves; learn to appreciate progression.

  • @Karanime Well, it's the people who pronounce things the way they feel they should be pronounced that win the day. Majority rules in the English language. People who nitpick on spelling and pronunciation lose sight of the content of the idea.

  • @Karanime , aren't your examples just British and American spelling, they're both right. daa-ta and day-ta, ay-ther and ee-ther, what's your point.

  • I meant pronunciation.

  • @Karanime I mean, I remember saying "Great Aether" from SSBB as GR8 AY-THER.

  • @Karanime Day-mon digivolve into....

  • @Karanime Calm the fuck down. ಠ_ಠ

  • @SolarisBlitz LOL true so true :)

  • yeh it is. now use that same keen eye to read my previous comments and stop spreading your ignorance. if you actually checked a dictionary and are able to understand the pronunciation, you might feel like a bit of a clown yourself.

unless of course "your" english pronunciation is to be taken ahead of dictionaries such as oxford, merriam-webster, macmillan etc. ps they have audio clips too if you cant make sense of it ;)

  • It's 'day-mun' you clown.

    (English pronunciation)

  • @Jabikz dont have kids

  • @daco420 Don't*

    Ironic, wouldn't you agree?

  • Google dictionary. search for daemon on any that come up. read or listen to pronunciation. notice it refers to a computer program. stop mispronouncing it

  • any of you "daymons" ever heard of an English dictionary? ITS PRONOUNCED DEE MON any way you slice it, in British English or american English, in programming terms or any other.

  • Demon.....

  • DAY MAN GODDAMNIT

  • DAY MON

  • What a beautiful 'Dae, mon! '

  • John madden!

  • @Gzero91 Football!

  • oh you...

  • It's an ancient greek word, δαίμων. It's pronounced daimōn. It literally means 'divider' and is used to represent an unclean or malevolent spirit.

When being translated from ancient Greek to medieval Latin, the Latin vowel 'æ' was aptly chosen because it also makes a long i sound.

As far as computing goes, image search FreeBSD, which uses a daemon as their mascot. Daemons are processes that work in the background. Get it?

  • Daemon tools... shit

  • Day-mon

  • It's actually 'DIE-MON'. The latin diphthong 'AE' is pronounced as an English long 'i.' So really, you are all wrong. L2Latin kthxbye

  • @ccr1567 Latin pronunciations are not English pronunciations. Heck, there are multiple forms of Latin, and yours is only correct for the earliest.

  • Bullshit, demon and daemon are not the same.

  • its pronounced the same as demon, DEE-MON, this guys vid is correct. if D tools was intended to be pronounced as DAY-MON perhaps it would be spelled .. daymon. besides, what's a daymon? it makes sense that the name is a reference to a powerful spirit working behind the scenes, ie a DEE-MON no? i guess i shouldnt of corrected my ex-gf's mother for pronouncing fajitas as fu- jit-su. seems if enough people cant say a word properly it becomes acceptable to mispronounce it

  • @daco420 you are 100% wrong... demon is pronounced that way, daemon is pronounced damon like everyone else has been saying here, unless you're british or canadian and like to put unnecessary a's next to e's for no reason... and "if D tools was intended to be pronounced as DAY-MON perhaps it would be spelled .. daymon." makes zero sense mainly because of the first part of that sentence "d tools"?????????

  • @h2kfrosty im 100% correct, as is this video. check it out on oxford dictionary ( refers to computer program) written pronunciation. merriam-webster and macmillan dictionary's have audio and written. (american english) or even just google dictionary and try it on the first site that comes up.

  • fighter of the nightmon

  • so that's how you say MAILER's last name

  • @FrequentlyFlyer hahahaha

  • Daemon Tools

  • mat daemon

  • im a daemon

  • Actually it's pronounced: Daymun

That's three out of three i've see you get wrong, and you call your user name the pronunciationbook? More like the ignorancebook.

Please do the world a favor and stop breeding.

  • @mulv81 Exactly what I was thinking.

  • @mulv81 your wrong.

  • You wouldn't believe how many variations people keep telling me of how to say this...

  • Daemon is from Dæmon and is prounounced "DEE-mon"

    ...just like...

Caesar is from Cæsar and is pronounced "SEE-zar"

Lots of people been saying "day-mon" for many years - decades even - because thats the way they read it from some computer screen or UNIX manual. *I* even said it like that for a while until I realized it was wrong. "Day-mon" is wrong.

  • DAYMON!

  • Wow...he actually got one right. This is the CORRECT pronunciation of Daemon. It should be pronounced just like Demon.

  • @ArxVirtus You're wrong, it should be pronounced like "day" - "mon". Sources: Google, Wikipedia, Merriam-Webster, TFD, myself (programmer), friends (more programmers).

  • @Shadow14l - No...YOU are wrong. People who pronounce it "day-mon" are those who only know it from UNIX and *think* they are pronouncing it right. Dæmon was a word long before computing. Any old school programmer (I'm talking 1970's and before) knows that "dee-mon" is the correct way to pronounce it. It's no more "day-mon" than Cæser is "say-ser."

Go to dictionary . com and look it up. You can click on the speaker icon and it will pronounce the word for you the RIGHT way.

  • @ArxVirtus Pronunciations change.

    catb*org/~esr/jargon/html/D/daemon*html

  • @Shadow14l - While in some circles (who pronounce and accept it basically due to their collective ignorance) "day-mon" might be accepted, it in no way invalidates the original/correct pronunciation of dee-mon.

  • fuck

  • damon

  • Deemon Tools

  • I love Daymun tools, very usefull

  • Hey cool, another one of these videos that is completely wrong.

  • Seriously what the fuck is this account. Spergin' allah up in heya.

  • Team America!

  • @dandeadly3 FUCK YEA!!

  • Matt Demon.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMON!

  • MATT DAEMON!!!!!!!

  • Demon*

  • i always pronounce it day-mon for some reason

  • MATT DAMON!!!!!

  • its spelled demon not daemon and othehead its spelled encyclopedia

  • @flyyboiraff14 daemon and demon are different words, though very similar.

  • its spelled demon not daemon

  • @flyyboiraff14 no he's just pronouncing it wrong

  • DAY-MUN

  • I'm still going to say day-mon, so there.

  • hey you got one right! good job! anyone who thinks it's pronounced like damon is being silly. next they will try to tell us encyclopaedia britannica is supposed to be pronounced en-sigh-clo-pay-dee-uh.

  • @0theHead0 So then I suppose that "aeronautics" should sound like "eer-o-naw-tix"? And "antennae" should sound like "an-ten-ee"? The ae diphthong can be pronounce differently in different contexts. It just so happens that the ae in "daemon" sounds like the ae in aeronautics, the "long a" as in "care" and "pair".

  • I still pronounce it "day-mon" because that is how I first heard it (when spelled that way). :)

  • I believe it's closer to Damon, at least in the sense of computer technology. According to Wikipedia, it is "/ˈdeɪmən/ or /ˈdiːmən/", the "demon" pronunciation is secondary, only because some people don't know how to pronounce the "ae" sound. In IPA, the correct pronunciation is /ˈdeɪmən/, which sounds like the surname of Matt Damon. Thanks.

  • @sabintr MATT DAMON!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @bluetablelover

    Daemon Wayans :D

  • @sabintr Correct. The computer term is DAY-muhn, but, in other contexts, it is usually pronounced the same as demon.

  • @sabintr basically, its like a cross between demon and damon
