  • Such a strong sound. Mulligan is a good bari-saxophonist, but...sorry, Jerry.

  • I played bass with Nick in the '70's. He was the best. For what it's worth he claimed he never practiced and played a Fibercane 5 reed.

  • if you don't see me for a few years it's because i'm practicing

  • I play a Selmer Mk VI with a custom modified 5* Link. I'd put that mouthpiece up with any. Funny, when I play it somehow doesn't come out like when Nick plays. Guess I'll have to buy a Keilwirth… or maybe find out what dimension Mr. Brignola came from and move there. I've been around a while and NOBODY comes close to Nick Brignola on Bari.

  • Great player. Never knew he was a doubler though. I'd like to hear him on clarinet and sop sax.

  • Guarantee his baritone is worth about 8, 000, god i wish i could have his bari sax.

  • @Benjaminkerry dont we all

  • @Benjaminkerry Prolly lik 12K

  • @Benjaminkerry Like*

  • Nick is my all time favorite Bari Sax Player. Miss him.

  • i really like this guy . hes a baddd ass dude

  • He's using a Strathon Adjustatone You can see the movable baffle on top.

  • The guy i study with has told me that he uses a beechler

  • Totally amazing and beyond ewerything, What a man! The only with Lars Gullin.

  • This guy is seriously heavy!! best bop baritone Ive heard, yet.

  • Runyon 9*

  • wow good playing! but why so harsh comments? just have fun listening to the music

  • rick0t....

  • perfect

  • wow. what a command of the hard bop idiom. Brignola's got to be the most neglected player of recent decades. He's a giant: so musical, superb tone, and he gets around the big horn like nobody else, Mulligan and Pepper Adams included. Anyone want to venture what his best 2 or 3 CDs are?

  • Raincheck, Like Old Times, What it Takes, On a Different Level and It's Time are 5 of his best.

  • Great stuff! My dad's cousin played in Nick Brignola's big band back in the 70s - he was a sax player named Chick Esposito, and he did some arrangements for the group. I'm trying to track down some of those arrangements, so if anyone happens to know any info, I would really appreciate it!

  • Amazing!

    Tomo

  • Um....wow! The greatest!

  • Because I don't want to haul that thing around.

  • made the switch from alto to bari (well i still play alto in my ska band) and the size is the only bad part. the thing is huge, but it's so much better than alto.

  • Bari is awesome, but I still play saprano, alto, tenor, and bari. I've played them all at one gig too.

  • thumbs down.

  • the great class

  • Nick is a burner!!! Seeing him back in the 80's almost made me want to switch from the alto to the bari.

  • i agree besides tht if u get a sax. thts colrd liik tht nd isnt plyd rite it stnks

  • I wish I had his tone. Its perfect, never drops a note, and isn't fuzzy about anything. All the jumps he does come out clean, and I can't say enough for what he's doen for the instrument. He'll be sorely missed.

  • hey fuck you ass hole

i had a choice between the same boring gold and black so i took black

    why so negative

  • i have a tenor sax just like that bari

    black

    it kicks ass

  • You know, altissimo on bari sax is almost too easy, it plays nearly by itself ;)

  • Wow. That man has crazy skillz.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • go practice

  • I should be practicing. o.o

  • shouldn't you be practicing?

  • Nick is one of the few bari players that I've seen that plays the black Selmer. Gives new meaning to "heavy metal". I know, because his is a twin to my big bad ax. Gotta love the tone and this guys musical sense. Well worth the listen.

  • Keilwerth

  • VERY GOOD VIDEO OF BARITONE SAX!

    PLEASE ADDING MORE VIDEOS!!!

    THANK´S

    HUDJAZZ tm

  • He mentioned something about his "newest album". Do you guys know what album, and where it is available?

  • does anyone know what kind of mouthpiece he played on?

  • Someone said he used a Strathon Ajusta on one of the comments from my other Brignola videos.

  • @calism23 i believe he uses a lawton

  • @tuc08307 it looks like a Lawton, with that inbuilt ligature

  • I got to study with Nick for a week once. Nick is the greatest. We love you! You are missed

  • Nick Brignola on the bari sax is what John Coltrane was on the tenor sax..

  • R.I.P. big guy... your virtuosity lives on. thanks for all the great music.

  • honestly, in my opinion, Nick is the best bari player as far as technique goes. Amazing soloist. Im very jealous of anybody whos been able to see him in concert. May he rest in peace.

  • I was fortunate enough to be able to sit in with his band one time.

  • That Nick sure is one crazy guy. I'll work extra hard to be that good one day.

  • My harmony teacher at berklee told me he hardly practiced... after a tour was over he'd put his sax back in the closet and wouldn't pick it up till his next gig.

  • no way!? Thats awesome! there IS hope for me after all... Well, if I'm good enough to make all state, I must be well on my way to not practicing my way to the top, lol.

  • the sign of a musical jerk who doesn't care

  • No one goes a month without playing unless they suck too much to get gigs.

  • well good luck, retard.

  • Anybody that honestly says that they "dont practice" and considers themselves to be a "musician" should be euthanized (put to death for you retards) because you are a waste of life. Being a musician is not something to take lightly, its a lifetime of practicing/self-discipline/torture, its not just fucking around with an instrument in your hands! The people that behave the way you do make a mockery of the work that professional musicians do. So please, do the world a favor and NEVER PLAY AGAIN!!

  • @ZaDouche

Stuff it, ya stiff. Excuse me, ... Douche.

  • @and7barton

"I've got more interesting things to do than to sit practising"
