  • I've never eaten at a wimpys; by some of the comments im guessing the food is pretty good, but does anyone know why the name "wimpys" was chosen?

  • @dragonfly9196 Apparently the name Wimpy was named after the character of the same name in the Popeye cartoons, if I remember correctly the Wimpy character liked to eat burgers!

  • @dannyboydoh

    oh i get it.

"I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!"

  • I remember Wimpy's, the bun used to be nicely toasted so it was still crunchy, much better than the soggy McDog Burgers. Who remembers the Brown Derby's and Knickerbockerglories....Don't see many Wimpy shops anymore... maybe the name isn't cool enough? I'm happy being a wimp!

  • @caxtonman toy

true i felt i was sitting down and eating a meal, not the processed rubbish you get from the competitors.

  • @courtney359 Yes, over-processed rubbish. If you look on you tube you will find Vincent Spurlock conducting an experiment into how long McCrap burgers and fries take to go rotten - and the fries still looked ok after 6 months in a jar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wimpy @ Gillingham High Street FTW! :)

  • Wimpy was wanky,...I seem to remember, from peering at a safe distance from the outside, that they served everything on plates,..and only the type of people who use a knife and fork to eat a hamburger used to go there...

  • theres real countryside horsemeat in wimpeys gristleburgers.

  • There are 3 locally to me :D

One near my 6th form college, one on my local high street and one outside my train station :)

  • rumour has it wimpy hired an american customer relations company to teach the staff the `have a nice dayisms`-they went back home and we had a fag break.joking aside im not one for fastfood but i do enjoy the odd wimpy

  • Wimpy @ Chiltern Shopping Centre, High Wycombe <3

  • aaah loved Wimpy! they seemed to disapear for a while but seem to be having a renaissance according to their website they are opening loads of new Wimpys woohoo bring it on!

  • ahh the wimpy burger.used to love em

  • If you can be patient, and wait for them to make it, then I agree-a decent Wimpy Burger is better than your average Mac or King....

  • Still is a treat kinyoman!

  • There will be a new Wimpy opening up in the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster.

  • Dont know if i fancy eating a burger that moves.

  • in the 80s the wimpy in chiswick was jusyt like a macdonalds style joint...the burgers were great and had a brown bun...i was shovcked when i saw a wimpy in holborn london in late 90s and saw it had china plates and then i discovered that most were like this..the chiswick one gave u wimpy crowns!

  • Ex Radio 1 DJ and former husband of Sarah Greene - Mike Smith doing the voice-over there. I remember this ad well!

  • Brill!!

A new wimpy has not long opened in Rhyl! 100 times better than McDonalds!

  • Wimpy have the greatest taste and it sets them apart from the rest. They seem to be vanishing since the 80's and there are not many left. Where are they all ?

  • @daveygovanlad The wimpy is East Croydon is great.

  • @TomTresh3 I know it well there is also one on London Road West Croydon

  • @daveygovanlad There's the one at Longbenton, North Tyneside, England which is closed now but the Wimpy sign is still up.

  • anythings better than eating out of mcdonalds.i havent eating out of mcdonalds for 15 years now. give me a burger king anyday.

  • i prefer wimpy to macdonalds not as greasey and the chips are not as salty too

  • yea and they are like the only fast food place which serves lamb burgers mmmmmmmmmm..............

  • cute commercial :)

  • mmmmm hamburgers

  • shame it was as popilar as burger king KFC and Mc donlads and now its strugling to survive

  • I think Wimpy's "struggling" days are long gone... those days were in the 70s and 80s when McDonalds, KFC and BK were expanding. However, many people still like Wimpy and it has now found it's niche in the market. Let's not forget that Wendy's - another American giant - failed miserably in the UK - twice (once in the 80s and a second attempt in the 90s), while Wimpy is now thriving again and opening new locations once more.

  • shame it was as popilar as burger king KFC and Mc donlads and now its strugling to survive

  • We don't have a Wimpy in Warrington any more, used to, and then McDonald's opened in 1985 and squeezed it out of town. Bastards! Mike S.

  • The Wimpy in Redhill, Surrey also closed in the 1980s when McDonalds openend a bigger location just down the road. However, there are still many Wimpys about in and round the London area.

  • lol wimpy still serves on a plate and knifr n ford u must be a yank

  • Yeah, but their chips/fries were godawful.

  • does no-one remember wimpy for getting done for selling kangaroo burgers or was it ostridge ?

  • Oi I like Kangaroo and Ostridge burgers

  • The bird holding a burger in her hand looks like someone who did page 3 in her day.

  • You still get table service in my local Wimpy.

  • I like the fact in Wimpy you always get a knife and fork and the food is served on a PLATE!

  • You've not been to Wimpy for quite some time then?

  • neither have you.

Still a knife, fork and plate at the one in Sudbury Suffolk.

  • Wimpy still serves on a plate!

  • Ahhhh this brings back many childhood memories
