i know nothing about gel products..so can you please tell me if using gel nail polish protects your nails?? do the nails get harder for the nail polish harden with the uv lamp?? what is the difference between regular nail polish and gel polishes and gel nails....thank you for the tutorial very lovely color and beutifull baby hope to hear from you thanks!!
I can't believe how up in arms some people get. Thanks for the video. Can you skip the color step? My nails are thin and weak. I want something to protect them that is stronger than just a base coat of polish. I just need a little armor for my nails, they take a beating at work.
Do you find that the color shrinks on the nail? I've been having that problem and I have the 36 watt lamp like yours... Also, when you cleanse the top cost, do you find that a bit of color is on the pad? I really need your advice! Thanks :)
hey jenspire35, I was wondering if you have to apply a bond b4 the foundation coat? i am planning on investing in these products and need to know what i need to buy for the basics? thanks for all ur help :] plz let me know what i need. awesome helpful video btw!
Great Job! Just a tip for you! Light bulbs actually last longer if they are never turned off, it’s the act of turning it off and on that wears it out. (Not that you should keep it on all the time), but if you turn it on at the beginning of the manicure and turn it off after everything is done, your light will last a lot longer. Also, rubbing alcohol is the same as the "Cleanser" if you run out thats all you really need to use.
@2622Valerie1 It might be because you're not applying thin enough coats or it could be because you didn't use a ph bond before putting on the foundation. jenspire didn't use the ph bond but i was having the same problem as you but after i started using it the polish didn't chip off so fast!
@sobeitbaby not trying to jump into anything but you can buy it at sallys without a licence... im a highschool student and i buy gelish polish all the time and do my own....
People come to DIY videos to learn a new trade. I appreciated this video. If you want to complain or attack you are not benefiting anyone and are at best a nuisance. Have constructive criticism or keep it to yourself. You can stop watching the video at anytime.
hi i was wondering if you have to use the ph bond? or what it is for. i see you dont use it here but it is sold it in the gelish basix kit and thats why im asking
need to move your arm out of the way or angle the camera differently so that we can SEE what you are doing when treating/polishing your nails. Good video otherwise!
I love this video, I used it to learn how to do my manicures and pedicures, and, with about $150 worth of products ( including my lamp) I save myself $100 every two weeks! Bravo for posting it, and bravo for the do it yourself girls! And, also to my "professional" nail tech buddies, you re much more prone to infections and irritation from a nail salon, then from doing it in your own home, where you know how clean and sanitary all of your tools are. You're awesome Jenspire35! Just ignore them.
Hahaha! I love when nail "professionals" get all up in arms because the realize that people can do something themselves, and they aren't going to get the $ and tips! Let me tell you something. You can buy this stuff at Sally's, you can buy it on Amazon, and countless other sites. Harmony doesn't give a crap about this video, because they are still selling products, and getting exposure, and, they obviously wouldn't offer their products to the general public if they were so "dangerous'!
@mandylynndennis Do you work for free? Its pretty crappy to say, hahahaha those nail techs should be out of a job, why on earth should they be allowed to expect money for their profession.. I am very interested to know how you support yourself, and why you think you should get paid, but a nail tech should not. I will be waiting patiently.
And yes you can get mini touch ups at Sallys now, big deal. Please feel free to do your own nails. BUT dont act like there is shame in US making $.
Doing nails is not science....If it was science, it would take longer than 6 weeks to get your nail-tech degree. I'm so grateful for this product because it allows for an easier DIY manicure! Products such as Paul Mitchell shampoos are professional products. This does not mean you must be a professional to use it. A monkey could shampoo his hair..Professional products typically must be purchased from a stylist or a beauty supply store for stylists.

@onehopelessromanticc It takes 6 months to finish nail school where you not only learn how to perform basic nail care, but anatomy, skin disease and disorders, nail disease and disorders, how to manage or own a salon, how to comply with the state and so on. Its fairly rude to act like nail techs are stupid simpletons. Do you work for free? If not tell me why?
I for one am very grateful for videos like this, and as a busy mom who cannot afford regular manicures like this, this type of info is invaluable! And PS I love the fact that we can hear you child in the background... I totally have that in my house too LOL! Cheers and thanks!!
Hello Jenspire35. I am a male but find your videos very interesting. I am an inspiring nail technician and find your tutorials fabulous. I am very Jenspired!!! -Titoboy
Hello I'd like to purches the products to do them by myself ,Pleasecan you tell me what do I need .If I want to change the colour can I use the normal nailpolish remover ?Do you make shipping to Malta ( Europe)? While thanking you in advance I look forward to hear from you.
I am sure many pro grade products are not commercially avail to everyone for reasons other than it is not safe for the general public to use them. Logistical, financial, simple reasons that have nothing to do with how safe they are or aren't to use.
HELLO people- you handle things much more unsafe all the time. Bleach? Gasoline? Ammonia? The problems that could arise from using gel polish oneself are the same problems likely to occur at the hands of a pro.
I disagree with all of the comments attacking this video. Most nail techs are not that smart. If THEY can- I can. It's NOT hard to safely handle gel polish. Many unprofessionals use pro products all the time. There are idiots that will injure themselves with a pro chemical treatment on hair or skin- but this is nails. I love how someone tried to throw out a big word to scare people- contact dermatitis!= rash. How many times has doing something to your nails given you a rash? A chimp cld do it
@briannalovescouture Actually, Shampoo and Conditioner are Retail items, duh, sold to the public via salons UV cured Gel/Polish Hybrids are NOT a RETAIL item and are not the same thing at all. Saving money is awesome. But do it with consumer grade products meant for at home use. Don't come here to give improper instructions with a dangerous chemical. Sobeitbaby was right, and I'm glad she posted this video on a professional message board and turned it in to Harmony, the creators of Gelish.
@briannalovescouture Your so full of it that you see Gel/Polish Hybrids sold in stores. Your such a joke. Hence the removal of you post.. And Harmony Can decide to take action against anyone advertising to gift THEIR line of Pro products via Facebook and they can start legal action against those reselling Harmony product to the fricken public. Howdya like that!
@Nailsalltheway HA I JUST FREAKING LOVE HOW YOU TRY TO MAKE ME LOOK LIKE THE BAD GUY, AM I THE ONE SELLING THE POLISH WITHOUT HARMONYS PERMISSION? NO! AM I BUYING IT? NO! I GO TO THE SALON AND HAVE MY GEL MANICURES DONE SO SHUT UP. PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE MONEY, SELLING GEL POLISH IS BETTER THAN SELLING DRUGS. YOU'RE SO FULL OF YOURSELF. SHUTUP
Its not available to the general public LEGALLY and you are ordering from sites that either request a license # and your bypassing it, or your buying from some unreliable seller. Either way it is for professional use ONLY read the bottle. Just because your able to get your little hands on it, does not make it safe. You'll see.
@sobeitbaby I didn't know buying from Amazon was illegal. Anyway, I understand if you're angry because I'm taking away business from professionals like you. However, not everyone can afford to get their nails done professionally and my goal is help those people by empowering them to do it themselves!!!!! Youtube is a tremendously effective and powerful learning tool and I'm so grateful for it. I'm sure many others will agree with me! @briannalovescouture thank you for the support!!!!!
I surely would not want you for my nail tech!!! I just watched a video from a gal that did gelish polish all by herself. I am looking into this.... that way I can save money!!! I did go to beauty school, so maybe you wont be such an ass about me purchasing this.... you look stupid posting all these dumb comments on this video..if it pisses you off that much, then don't watch it!
I'm sorry but you can't even see what your doing because your polishing hand is in the way. As a tech I really wish the general public would not be able to get your hands on pro products only. Unfortunately as wonderful as these new seem simple products are, your opening yourself up to potential allergic reactions from over exposure and damage from improper removal.
@jenspire35 It may not be rocket science my dear, but it IS SCIENCE and I am not JUST a nail tech. Now that you have offended me and the nail community with your statement, you obviously have no clue what we learn to properly care for hands and feet. You are messing with chemicalS not made for general public use. THIS IS NOT NAIL POLISH! so when you get some kind of nail separation, or contact dermatitis, BLAM IT ON YOURSELF AND THE THE PRODUCT.
@sobeitbaby you may not believe this, but my intention really was not to offend anyone. It's just that the product IS available to the general public and it really is not that hard to apply. I'm not a nail tech, but I have done my research!
@sobeitbaby Overexposure? Really? That's your best defense? She isn't exposing herself to it anymore than she would if she walked into a salon every 2-3 weeks to have it done. I understand your frustration with how DIY'ers can affect business (because that's really what your beef is about, let's just be honest) but what sector of the beauty/cosmetic industry is this not a problem for the pros? I pay for nails/hair because I don't FEEL LIKE doing it myself, not because I don't know how to.
@daydreamer725 I know sobeitbaby from pro forum and you know when techs talk about over exposure, it has nothing to do with the UV lamp and everything to do with getting product on the skin. DIYers dont affect my business, my books are full. I am sure some techs see the downside in their schedules. After discussing this in the forum, we all agree, its not about DIY, its about teaching others to do something you yourself do not know how to do. I don't care for it either. Learn from pro vids then.
Thanks a lot! I did my first Gelish manicure yesterday (LOVE IT!) and this morning, I've been searching for fellow Gelish fans. Your son is too cute! Our cats usually get in our videos. The best way to get it off without wasting acetone (this is what you need for the soak off) is cut 2 cotton pads into five "nail sized" wedges. Soak those in acetone, place on nails and wrap your nails with aluminum foil strips. The manufacturer recommends using heat (warm wet towels) to speed up the process.
