  • Well.. I would have to take alot into consideration first

Would you be forced into advertising when blogging ?

Will your videos be controlled and them giving you specific subjects to talk about ?

Will they act as though they own you and not let you carry on blogging on youtube ?

Will peoples views on you change ?

Is the loss of followers worth the small wage ?

Whatever decision you make you will have my backing

  • Thanks. Good questions & ones i've thought about myself too.

I've decided not to go for it & for some of the reasons you mention.

    I prefer my independence :)

  • well I've not been asked and I'm most offended!!!!

    Ok... well maybe not ;)

  • I didn't know you were a blogger too.

  • I have not been approached by anyone about blogging.

Maybe it's because I don't blog at all. The whole concept of writing stuff according to a formula containing keywords would leave me feeling uncomfortable. I would rather be given carte blanche and no money...

  • That's a very fair point & i think i'm increasingly coming to the same conclusion myself :)

  • You were already leaning that way I think...

  • Yep, I was also told my blogs could make me some money too. To be honest, I couldn't care less about these sites as all they want are more subscribers.

  • I was under no illusion that i'd been singled out for any proper reason. I bet they trawl about the blogging sites & email everyone :)

  • It's easy for me to say - but my 2 cents is accepting money bastardizes the process. Yes you aren't committed to any point of view, but once you start getting that check - subconsciously or not you tend to skew things to give them what they want. Intentionally or not.

Also, the fact that there is some secrecy to this process leaves a slightly bad taste.

Well - you asked - lol. Good luck deciding.

  • Thanks for your opinion Danny.

    Good points, well made :)

  • A few years ago I did sign up for and test out that blogging for cash thing, and just as rapidly stopped. For the couple of dollars it brought in, I didn't like being a shill for these sponsors - especially because you're not supposed to say "Sponsored link" - I found it dishonest & the topics I was offered did not go well with my blogs.

Now, I do have adsense on my blogs, but they're clearly labeled as ads, and not trying to pretend that they're my recommendations or links I wanted to include.

  • I have ads on my vlog too.

That's the main issue i have with this is, that non disclosure aspect. As you say it is dishonest really.

I'm tempted to join up, just to find out what sort of products/topics they want people to talk about.

I'm tempted to do that & then not actually take up any of the offers.

    Thanks for your input :)

  • After reading three or four of your posts on Blogger, I have to say that I like your conversational style of writing. You'll have to make another vid to let us all know how you got on, if you decide to do the blogs + advertising.

  • Thanks for the feedback on the blogs. It's always good to know what others think.

Yes, i think if i do go for it, it might be good to do that :)

  • I see no reason not to take money for mentioning a product or service in a blog. If you feel guilt about taking money you could always donate it to your favorite charity.

  • That's a very good point. I hadn't thought of that option, if i did feel uncomfortable doing it :)

  • Would you please ask Teddy if I can borrow some of that money? :)

  • They're only dollar bills. But, he's very protective about his money ;)

  • Well, I guess so long as it didn't foster dishonest reviews, I suppose there could be a lot of value in it. And like you said, if it helps you explore a new interest, why close yourself off indeed.

If anyone asked me to blog about old TV shows...!!!

    8-)

  • It does say in the email, or blurb on the site, that you can be truthful & don't have to express a favourable opinion. I guess they are just after traffic to their website.

After all, as they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity :)

  • I dunno... something tells me that Dad of Balloon Boy might hold a slightly different opinion regarding that bad publicity thing by now.

Especially after his wife officially ratted him out.

    D'OH!!

"Til failed publicity stunt do we part?"

  • LOL

She's probably thinking of her own future publicity anyway.

I don't remember that line in my wedding vows ;)

  • HA! good point. Either she is or each of their lawyers are. As soon as I heard they had different representation, I knew one would sell the other out.

I'm predicting at least 2 TV movies about the whole mess within the year.

  • Only 2 TV movies? What about the boy's story ;)

There ought to be a good blog, or vlog in this story somewhere. Not from me though :)

  • I think they are tryin to make that illegal here in the usa if you don't tell you are being paid.

I don't know of anywhere else that it though.

If you write as well as you talk on here though you'll make some good money.

  • Really? That sounds a little ominous.

I thought this might be a USA service that contacted me. Could be wrong though.

    Thanks for the compliment :)

  • I am not sure about that, if the topic will be toshiba TVs I would feel like a cheat.

who's to say what the topics will be.

  • I have no idea what the topics would be. But, you can refuse to accept the offer if you want.

I wonder if it might be worth trying & seeing what it's all about? :)

  • Never hurts to have a look see.

  • I think that will end up being my position.
