@giodazip The scaffold is made by Vanguard. We got it from Lynn Ladder, who also makes the Chicken Ladder. The scaffold is supported from the ridge by a set of Ultimate Ridge Hooks. Several chimney sweep suppliers sell them. They allow using the scaffold attached to 2x8s instead of the roof!
this guy looks a little like Big Daddy Roth. Sweet chimney work, chimney repair and tuckpointing is an art. i'm just a lousy roofer, anybody can be a grunt. real nice job
Moist burlap on the crown covered with plastic overnight allows a slow cure. They didn't do it on the original crown, that was obvious by the excessive cracking. Chamfer wouuld have been less conspicuous, but that's too "old school" I guess. TCW
I enjoyed the video even though I am working on a spalling brick problem from a federal style rowhouse from 1900. The spalling is not at the chimney, but I will keep this in mind next time I am on the roof. I had a mason do some tuck pointing for me which turned out great but I am guessing I must replace the spalled brick. I had some college kids in here that put a washer/dryer in the bsmt and did not vent it so the bsmt moisture I believe caused spalling. rgds.
This is, without a doubt, the best example of "How to waterproof a Chimney" that I have ever seen! I now know more about waterproofing a chimney than I ever have. I feel like I could talk about this subject with a bit a knowledge, where as before, I could not. Thank you for sharing your skill and craft with us.
Great post!

Bill, can you tell me more about that scaffolding. Who makes it? What is it called? Thanks, Joe

No "hacks" involved in this video. Great job, nice finish.
