Canadian Gasoline consumes more gas than American gasoline. That is what my mechanic told me & my friends felt it who lives Windsor/Detroit border cities.

I drove 1000 km with one tank in a turbocharged petrol FIAT. Is waaay better than this diesel rubbish Vw.. and it has 150 hp, so it's faster. My advice, if you want a economic car, buy Fiat.

i have a mitsubishi lancer 96 and it did 1150km in a full tank. and its a petrol. i traveled on a 1600km route. it wasnt even that empty when i got to 1150km.

I own a Jetta 2009 and i can get just over 900 km on a tank for city driving and a little over 1100 km for highway. But i have even done 850 km for a tank while driving with higher revs and in traffic. So its not bad it really depends on how you drive.

the new one is soo sick the 01 up to 06 i think had only 90 hp 06-08 had 100 and the 09 has 140! 235 ft lb of tourque and a 6 speed manual and its a nice car with good mileage

I myself was not convinced on how the diesel could get that high of a fuel milage until I bought a 03 Jetta Tdi. My best millege to a tank is 800 miles 1300kms. But I am sure that I can even get better than that. My fuel light never even came on

1100km per tank is based on a 44MPG average. I averaged 47MPG on my TDI last week. That is 1151km on a 14.5 gallon tank... and that average will only get better with time as the compression in the diesel engine increases, as diesel engines usually do. :)

I agree with you on your last statement, but only partially. A bigger engine can get you out of big trouble when overtaking on twisty, busy roads. Anyway, you don't need to push a 'big' engine to its limits the whole time to prove how good it is, do you? BTW, I drive a 1.6L, 30mpg average 97 Nissan Sentra and I want the 1.8L one. Cheers!

My car is Citröen Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi and i can beat that! 1100 km is not a problem. I have 90 BHP and at 140 km in average i use 6.0 liters of diesel pr. 100 km. Not bad for a car that was build in 2004. The HDi engine is much better than TDi. SÅ much better, that VW, after what i´ve heard, get their new TDi´s produced at a Citröen factory. But it is a nice car though

and my BMW 320d with 177hp does easily 1200km with single tank in mixed driving. in extraurban only driving(long trips) it'l do over 1400km. and it aint no slouch while at it(0-100kmh in 7.9 sec)

I've had my 09 TDI since August and i have put 13K miles on and i love it. I went from an RX8 to this because

i needed more room and cheaper insurance. After 10k miles i started getting and average of 39.6 mpg. I love the room but miss the power on my rx8 but this does have more power than i thought just takes a while to get started

mmmmmm....wrong. There isn't anywhere in the continental US where diesel is more then $.50 a gallon more then gas. Where i live diesel is no more then $.30 more and as little as $.10 more. Hmmmm.... $.10 more per gallon for up to 40% better fuel economy over gas cars. Seems pretty simple to me. Over the course of 15,000 miles I will save almost $800 in fuel costs when compared to my old gran prix and nearly $1600 over my f150.

Diesel sold in the US as of 2007 has almost no sulfur in it, as it once did. Also, the Jetta TDI has a set of filters that dramatically reduces NOx and CO2. So, to answer your question, yes, diesel is better, and so is the new technology!
