  • Did you guys ever wonder how the first taps were made? Its like one of those chicken or egg questions

  • When hand tapping, you should use a V-TapGuide by Big Gator Tools - Tap straight every time! It works great!! Available at Littlemachineshop online, Travers Tools, Penn Tools, Brownells gun supplies, Sears online, Kmart online, Big Gator Tools.

  • do it simply by hand in 2 or 3 steps and there will be no problem

  • I only use HM drills with through the tool coolant, and then chamfering, then rolltapping the tread.

What they don't say is that rolltapping results in a stronger tread, because you forge the metal structure, instead of cutting it away. also perfect for CNC milling because it doesn't produce chips.

Fully synchronized tapping as well. (tap is rigid in the toolholder) means the Z axis servo is 'slave' to the position of the spindle. So the spindle can rev down and up at the end of the hole.

  • the worst part is handtaping

i hate it and my favorite taps are spiralflute

for handtaping i use tapper once than spiralflute or bottom tap for finish

im still new on these only a year experience

  • HELP! is it possible to tap a thread by hand?

  • yes, its easy

  • yea man

  • yep sure is, its tricky though, remember to reverse the rotation every revolution or 2, it breaks the chips created, helps to give a more defined thread.

  • @djabvegas If you use a spiral flute in a thru-hole, you can actually handtap without frequent reversal. Thinner workpieces like structrual steel or sheet metal can be tapped extremely quickly with a spiral flute tap in a cordless drill.

Precision tapping should of course be done on a machine, at the very least using a spring loaded tap guide in the spindle.

  • @djabvegas easyer way to remember is 1/2 forward 1/4 back may be slower but always is clean

  • simple formula for speed and feeds for standard taps(non metric) feed rate= 10. spindle speed=10(TPI)

    example:1/2-13 tapped hole Feed rate=10. spindle speed=130 RPM's

( Mills Only and rigid tapping) This works really well and is VERY conservative. You can increase things if you are comfortable with results. (recommend OSG modified bottoming taps. they seem to work the best for me.) Good luck and happy tapping

  • oh how i hate tapping on the 25+ year old CNC mills I have to deal with.

  • lol cool cool

  • nice video
