  • She seems hard.

  • How hard is she?

  • How hard is she, in a scale of 1-10?

  • Nope, all those issues come packed even with real hardware. There's no escape to this fact.

  • HOly fucking bad audio capture >.<

  • technicolor coat :D

  • How many people think the song that plays sounds like shanoa's theme?

  • So does the PSP version not give you an option for English? Or have all the LPers of this game just fallen in love with this foreign language?

  • lol when i got to the inverted castle i found a OMFG sword that does no animation(no delay)- alucard just stand still but u can see razor wind blades comin out that does 1500 damage so yeah...the inverted castle was a cakewalk.

  • @alef321

That would be the Crissaegrim. I'm spelling it wrong, but it's a rare drop sword that comes from the Schmoos in the Reverse Library. And yes, it immediately cranks the game difficulty WAY down.

  • I hope this is on an emulator. If not, then the Saturn version is officially a case of Porting Disaster.

  • 日本語 talk just better, alucard's seiyuu is the same kuchiki byakuya from bleach

  • Can you post the English dialogue?

  • habla como rey del hokuto noken y lyn los dos del hokuto noken

  • you call that a mist form?looks like after shave to me. :s

  • Maria: Alucard?

    Alucard: That vocie, Maria?

Maria: Sorry, your right about it.

    Alucard: About Belmont...

MAria: I did try to stop him. But, I don't have much power. I can't stop richter.

Alucard: So he must be stop.

MAria: I know. Thats why.. I don't have any choice.. Your POWER.. I need it.

  • Could somebody please translate what they're saying? I wish I could understand that. :-(

    Thank you,

    ASPERGER0584 :-)

  • is this the saturn version or bonus psp version

  • SATURN version

  • Admitingly, my JP is not perfect, but the dialogue seems diff as opposed to the one from your PSP version. If I translated properly, Maria wants to..."borrow(?)" Alucard's power since her own power is insufficient.

That being said, what song is this?

  • Guardian

  • Hahah! Alucard's voice is Byakuya's voice!

  • Wow, talk about a lot of hate on the Saturn version. For starters, this was basically a straight up port of the PSX version onto the Saturn that really did not take advantage of what the hardware could do not to mention this port was handled by a different development team entirely. (KCE Nagoya instead of KCE Tokyo) This version could have been much more on par visually with the PSX version had the time and effort been taken to take advantage of the Saturn's 2D hardware.

  • 1:04-1:07

    "Ka..me..ha..me...haaaaaaaaaa!!"

  • Saturn and PSX versions have better things the other one hasn´t so they are both good

  • Wow, you have nothing better to do right? Enough already. Whether the game sucks or not, it was cool for its day and just leave it as is. Go find something better to do and find another way for yourself.

  • It still kicks more ass than PSONE no matter what you say. You are not up for a challenge. Don't forget games back then didn't kick much ass, and only few games really did. Now with more advance technology for games, remakes of old school games are being made, and sometimes, even the first release was better than the new edition. The Saturn version was a game of its time. It still is a great game to play. If you are a Castlevania fan, you just have to like both versions.

  • If you were an actual Castlevania fan, you should have noticed all the flaws of the Saturn port. They aren't invisible or something.

  • Of course the Saturn verson has more secrets - it came out years after the Psx one. -_- Voice acting is identical to the original Japanese, so I don't see how it can be better. As for Maria, her attacks make absolutely no sense and she's way too overpowered.

Really can't see how the Saturn version is any better than the original. Most of the new content blows pretty badly and feels alien to what SOTN used to be.

A perfect example of how "more" doesn't necessarily translate as "better".

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention all the technical issues like missing transparencies, butchered audio, and terrible slowdowns.

Sure dude, the Saturn version kicks ass. In your dreams.

  • the only thing that Saturn done pretty good was the speed shoes for Alucard, seriously this is the only good thing about it (those extra areas are pretty weak compared to the other parts of the castle and saturn Maria is too strong)

  • @OmegaCoolsterDX so PSN ver of SotN is the PSX ver with all saturn bonus ? if yeah , i gonna buy it RIGHT NOW! - and wow, saturn effects are so effin uggly D:

  • @alef321 sorry, PSN version is the normal PSX version without bonuses from the saturn one (though it might have better bestiary and some of the bugs fixed but i didn't played that one), if you looking for upgraded PSX Version with some of the bonuses and if you're PSP owner, get the Dracula X Chronicles. The only thing i didn't like about Dracula X Chronicles version was the new voice cast but at least we can turn original Japanese one :D

  • @geminimewtwo

Well, that's what sucks. There is no definitive version of Symphony of the Night. PS1 lacks the extra levels and items, PSP has Maria like Saturn and her battle but has bugs and is missing extra content. Saturn version is the most complete one. Audio is the same, though there's some slowdown and not true transparencies, but it actually runs in a higher resolution on Saturn, though the game is just upscaled, so it doesn't really take advantage of it.

  • @cakestalker

If you can stand the lack of a few lame extra maps, then the PlayStation version is still *the* choice, especially if it's the japanese edition.

And yeah, you got it correctly for the heigher resolution. I will never understand why they just didn't expand the view field instead of stretching all the gfx without actually redrawing a single pixel. Meh, Konami Krack at its fullest...

  • @geminimewtwo

And none of these are 'cause he is much likely playing this with an emulator, right?

    *genious.jpg*

  • saturn sucks man i played it before i prefer the PSX Version

  • Yeah, saturn version can have more stuff but cannot handle it, even lot of the effects were lost D: and the loading screen is annyoning

  • 2 horrible levels and one pissy teenage girl. Woo! Better!!!

  • but wait.... you forgot(drumroll!) TADA!!! Richter's alternate costume!!!! Woo!!!! Now even better!!!!

  • Damm skippy^^ Maria is still my faveorite extra character even in castlevania. ANd I have played so many fo those games.. ALL extra characters are over powered, because they almost never go up levels. Maria seems over powered because Richter was .... Over powered? Seriously his dam item crashes are nuts.. Maria.. had her spells.. but wasn't that much stronger.. she as just FUN to play.

  • Hey..... isn't it the voice for alucard in the PSP version???? The dude speaks good english then (wow a Japanese speaking good English?? Shocked)

  • Maria looks in the psp version....fatter.......her Attacks are very weak in psp version.....

  • The Cloak is awesome, where did you get this?

Or is it in the PSX version still avaible?

  • Nope, the PSX version doesn't have it.

  • Fighting Maria? That didn't happen to me.

  • Wow, mist form is fucking ugly :S lol

  • @deathcrunch no it's fucking epic that's the original screw the usa version it got a lot of things deleted... btw... why they deleted lotsa things in usa version?

  • @Kengdarot

they only deleted the extra familiars and replaced the useless jap voice actor babble with something less useless.

the saturn version wasn't even done by the same guys who made original sotn, it was more like an outsourced, officially sanctified fangame than a real version.

see psp version, which is done by the same studio as original sotn. it only adds what was originally planned but not done because of lack of time, like maria mode and battle.

  • I have th game on the saturn but i never go down here to have the holy glasses because i have the gold ring but i dont have the silver ring.. but i dont know why, however,i got it in the room with spikes...

  • Hi, friends. Really?

The gold ring is in underground caverns, and the silver ring is in Royal Chapel.

First, you must get spike cuirass and put on it.

Second, go to Royal Chapel then access the inside of room.

The silver ring is at the room. Good luck.

I must say Marias strength is so scared. To me

  • Hi, everyone. I come from Taiwan.^_^

Mary is so powerful that I am scared. Every her hit may hurt Alucard 15~50 points. I first met her, and I was defeated easily by Maria.

Especially her second body, it almost is hard to hit her.

  • lol nice cape alucard :P

  • Why do you have to fight Maria in the Saturn version? Is it her time of the month or something?

  • She just wants to test Alucard if he's capable of saving Richter.

  • @LazloEnKuldes maria obviously knows nothing of belmont history alucard helped trever belmont defete dracula. also i think alucard can handle his own father.

  • @EvilUrago Yeah, that whole conversation was about how Maria found out that Richter really was the lord of the castle, and how ate the last pudding...

  • donde conseguistes esa capa?

  • is it just the video, or does the PSP version have terrible graphics?

  • oh, nvm. this is the Saturn version, right?

  • Yep.

  • this is the saturn version ;)

  • whats the name of this game in the psp version? i miss this game...

  • Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. You'll have to unlock SotN first before you can play the PSP version of it.

  • what do you mean. do i have to have the have the SotN before i buy the psp version. also is it avilable in united states because ive been living here in the US for about 3 years now.

  • Like I said, you'll have to unlock it, SotN is just a bonus addition to DXC, meaning it's not the main game. You'll have to unlock it by getting it in DXC.

  • oh understood!!! but is it available in united states? or japan. if its in japan then ill have to w8 until i go back home. probably next year.

but i want to play the game so badly...

  • Yes, it's available in US

  • thank goodness ^^ at least i dont have to pay more for import. thanks for the info man.

  • This specific version is only available in Japan (unless you know someone who sells imports locally)

  • no, i did a little bit of research about thisgame b4 i got it, it is ported in US.

  • The...PS1 version was. The Saturn version is only in Japan

  • NO! Nonwise that was the song of battle of the version of Sega Saturn, in serious... HAVE I IT! That version is but ugly... But it is but interesting that the one of PSX, apart from which they change in some things, like for example, Death Ballad in CSotN of PSX lasts three times, however in DXNitM de Saturn it lasts 2 times, furthermore the effects 3D of Saturn are ugly, in the PSX they are better, and another thing, in the PSX is not battled against Maria... or if?

  • what the hell are you talking about? i honestly have no idea what you're trying to say.

  • This maria is a killer.. MUCh MUCH harder than psp version!!!

  • i think thats when she gives you the holy glasses to fight richter then go on to the invert

  • no its not, Blood Relations plays when you fight her in the PSP version.

  • the saturn version is ugly, but contain extras xD

  • I'm not sure, I didn't hear it clearly when I fought her there. But I think they also used Blood Relations for her fight in there, that's what I remember.

  • I STILL NEED A TRANSLATIOOOOOON damnit, after 4 years of knowing about this fight I want some fricken answers

  • Rough translation of pre battle cutscene

    M: Alucard?

    A: That voice, Maria?

M: I'm sorry, what you said was true.

A: He was a Belmont after all.

M: (He must be controlled by something), but my power... It's not enough to save Richter.

A: But he must be stopped.

M: I understand but, I'm sorry, let me see your power.

Well, that's what they were saying although, the line that's in (), that's the line that I can't understand very well, so, I'm not sure if that's what Maria was saying.

  • Post battle cutscene

M: Impressive... This time, fore sure... Please, you must Richter.

A: That I cannot promise but I'll definitely give it a try.

M: I guess it can't be helped... Ah, that's it, here take this with you. *Gives holy glasses to Alucard*

    A: These are?

M: If you wear these, it will let you see through evil entities.

A: I see. (But you should pray that your friend doesn't die.)

Well, that's it, again the ones in () are the ones I can't translate very well, but everything else are ok

  • i would so fucking an anime of this

This is the Sega version right?

  • Yes, this is the Saturn Version

  • thnx for all!

  • genial *o* maria batle

  • The saturn version is kinda ugly... xD

  • so, is she giving you the holy glasses when you defeat her? cuz i heard the item sound while she was talking to you.

  • Yes, she is.

  • Cool video and weird mist =P
