@vonkalsson Hi Scot, I have a few questions. I recently bought the Vox AC30VR and I was very disappointed with the huge delay (void/silence) of nearly 1 second when switching between channels (either on amp or footswitch). So, my question is, does this amp Vox Ac30 CC2 have the same issue when switching between channels while playing? My band's main feature are the dynamics quiet/loud (rock/post-grunge), so if I can't switch quickly from clean to distortion it sounds awful. Thanks. Best.
@PhobeRush this amp has hard wired separate channels i.e. 2 separate input jacks. you could probably do something with a line switcher but the amp itself doesn't have switch-able channels
I have this amp and love it above my fender drri fender bdri or fender super champ xd. As For Gibson I have a les Paul studio. My agile 3100 sounds and plays worlds better for a third the price. My squier tone pro trumps all my guitars.
I love that there is also an enormous plant in that acoustically perfect room. I prefer any post effects to be separate from my amp. That amp is way too complex for my needs.
I can make you one for a quarter of the cost but with better usa/uk/german parts and handwired like the original though. It costs even less if you already have an amp which i could strip/rebuild.Most of the semi pros i work with have a 15 watt version for gigs though,as this sucker is loud
nothing beats a vox clean channel but i'm a modern player and it just sounds to classic, and all the knob twisting and switch switching needs to be just 4 channels with a footswitch, thats why i won't buy a vox
Is this the 30 watt version or a higher watt? I was just wondering because I was going to buy one of these at 30 watts but I wasn't too sure if it was loud enough.
this thing is VERY loud. shouldnt have any problem with volume, in all sorts of contexts (playing in your bedroom might be a problem though, cause this is seriously loud)
FrosredZiggy - the speakers in an ac30 will make a huge difference also. If you get a vox with 'blues' in, you will have an amp possesing not only a huge amount of thump - but also through two of the most efficient guitar amplifier speakers you could wish for. It will happily blow a combo of 45-60 (ish) w equipped with regular (90-95db speakers) into the weeds. A massive factor to think about when buying an ac30. Hope this helps.
@molomono You are absolutely right. I was at a Long and McQuade store here in Toronto and could not find a decent Les Paul out of about 10 of them - never mind the asking price!! The sales person said that the one way up on his display was "A good one" which I asked to try out. Price tag $6000. WTF
@musichap Unless you have near 2000 dollars to spend you are much better off getting epiphone LP's.
Gibson makes some damn good guitars, but the prices just don't make sense. Slash's guitar for example is a true classic it's a 1959's les paul. The price tag on the original line of these guitars is around 200 thousand now. That is mainly because many artists went big using this line, and there were only 100-200 made. Still, only a gibson guitar could attempt to sell at a price like that.
@molomono Yes they do but so do many other manufacturers these days. I can understand back in the 60 and 70's but today there are so many alternatives that will give you much better guitars for less money. The only thing these companies don't have is the "Gibson" name and the history and mojo that goes with it. Don't kid yourself into believing Slash and many others use Gibson guitars exclusively.
@musichap Not like i'd ever buy one in the first place.
All i know about Gibson is that their pricing doesn't make sense. And in the 60's 70's the 59's didn't cost even close to as much as they do now. The price increased not because of the workmanship but because some really famous guitarists went big using them. The original guitars are great, but they didn't cost much more than PRS Private stocks do now.
Does that raspyness borderline fizzyness come from the speakers distorting or is it more related to the tubes used? Either way this demo put me off want the amp.
@Bieling3 The tubes overdriving. it sounds way better in person.but u dont have to drive the tubes u can get i loud with out the crunch and throw a pedal in front if u like. I drive the tubes for the natural fizz then boost it with a distortion pedal i love the sound of vox.
If I had the money - I'd buy this Amplifier in a funky heartbeat - the deep cleans are like I haven't heard since the mid 60's.
Paul Kramer is selling a lot more of these than the "official" Vox site IMHO. One of the best most concise reviews I've ever seen. I'm going to have to check out a Vox Virage single cut if I'm ever out of this financial Fonk (that's NOLA with an "o".)

@StevoRB89 WHAT these IDIOTS that are paying a FORTUNE for NON-SQUIRES is that while in Brasil I met (a Friend now) who sells would to Fender for the Squires etc.,....the wood in a Squire is better than The STRATS made in U.S.A.!!! Wood makes a BIG DIFFERENCE!! Any chimp can be taught to make an electric guitar!!! I own several Strats 2 64 Fenders,Carvin, Warmouth and Tokai. My Squires,..after a pro set-up play as good as any U.S.A Strat!!
Come on for amps' sake! Would someone record a review of this beast with a strat?! Why do they all use LP's?! People need to hear a Strat through it!!! People need to hear a lower gain guitar played through this thing!
Vox started out decades ago with an explicit desire to offer a guitar amp voiced for guitar and not a retread from the Fender, and earlier prototypes that were just there proposed by the tube builders back literally when they were invented. In contrast, most other amps are still Fender style, or Fender with different power tubes (Marshall). Since by coonincidence, metal players (those setting the trends) use the same-old circuits AND they happen to favor EQ settings that take the same (cont.)
on those circuits set with boosted highs and lows. Vox voicing deliberately features prominent mids relative to the same-old Fender circuits.
If you have the EQs, "metal" voicing from any amp. Metal is the easiest, even sucky solid-state amps with enough gain sound fine if you get the EQ dialed in (with enough gain). Doing so on a Vox will not sound bad (to me), but it will not have that extra bounce and bite (low and high) like Kirk likes to play. That's all that matters to most players.
Vox = everything else, even jazz on the normal channel :) pop, rock, blues are all welcome. Just add a good overdrive pedal like a Tubescreamer to give a little more breakup or boost your solos, a I do with my CC2 and CC2X
the way i see it vox has a lot nicer cleans. they both sound british and they both have a good crunch sound, but marshall is a better for hi gain stuff. i prefer the new vox stuff over the new marshall stuff, but i prefer the old marshall stuff to the old vox stuff. its not that the old vox is bad (actually its quite good). the new marshall stuff does not sound good at all to me though.
I've got this amp for a year now and really I don't like the overdrive channel. It's pretty good for chords but for solo's, no and I don't like the distortion for chords too much either but the clean channel is awesome and it sounds great with distortion pedals, gives a really powerfull sound
ha i found one today at my local store marked down too 999 then marked down to 849 and then its going out of buissness and is marked down to 449!!!!!!!!!! ill will be buying this 2mrw for less than half price....suck it
Okay, was he trying to get us to think Fat Bottom Girls and Paperback Writer, or was that just coincidence? Also.. did it sound a bit muddy to anyone else?
Paul Kramer has an unshakable guitar playing style...watching him demo the Vox stuff in these videos makes me wanna pull the trigger on buying an AC30! He really brings the AC30 to life. Don't stop making these cool vids Paul , you are awesome dude!
I just got one of those. Wish I could've afforded the Celestions, but I absolutely LOVE this amp! I also play a Burns sig Brian May RedSpecial sometimes and the tones are mind blowing!
i can just say that these ac 30´s are pretty good ones alot of people say that they not much as good as the old ones .shure an old one is special but i´m a big queen fan a use 3 ac30 (2cc2 and one cc2x)and im really amazed of the sound you get with them so queen fans it will be no mistake to take one of those ,trust.
sorry if i missed it in this video or im just not getting the grasp of this... im in a band and often there's songs that go from a relitivly clean sound with little or no overdrive sound... then for the chorus it goes into a driven sound..does the footswitch allow me to change between these channels or is it a matter of flickin switches and turning knobs on the actual amp itself?
all i can say is AC30+treble booster = god rock distrotion! i hate fuckers who use distorition pedals with this amp! there dont need it for the king of amps. trust .
Re: How is that surf? - He's playing something very much like "Pipeline" by the Chantays, which was a big surf hit in the 60s.. That track was swimming in reverb.

Come on for amps' sake! Would someone record a review of this beast with a strat?! Why do they all use LP's?! People need to hear a Strat through it!!! People need to hear a lower gain guitar played through this thing!

(better)

VOX = Great British sounding, not good for metal
Marshall = British sounding aswell, but not as nice sound (to me), though they are a lot better for metal (most of the marhsalls are at least)

Since by coonincidence, metal players (those setting the trends) use the same-old circuits AND they happen to favor EQ settings that take the same (cont.)
chris2002Rocklin 2 years ago
on those circuits set with boosted highs and lows.

Marshall = damn metal sh*t (I don't care)
Vox = everything else, even jazz on the normal channel :) pop, rock, blues are all welcome. Just add a good overdrive pedal like a Tubescreamer to give a little more breakup or boost your solos, a I do with my CC2 and CC2X

Nels Cline often plays with a JTM45 clone. Take that for what it's worth.

depends on genre but i definitly vox amps

vox have a nicer clean sound, and are more chimy and sparkly and generally offer less gain, but can still have that british punch
marshall are better for high gain, but in my opinion arent nearly as versatile
aektzis91 2 years ago
neither if you're on a budget lol
kempobrad 2 years ago
the way i see it vox has a lot nicer cleans. they both sound british and they both have a good crunch sound, but marshall is a better for hi gain stuff. i prefer the new vox stuff over the new marshall stuff, but i prefer the old marshall stuff to the old vox stuff. its not that the old vox is bad (actually its quite good). the new marshall stuff does not sound good at all to me though.

I've got this amp for a year now and really I don't like the overdrive channel. It's pretty good for chords but for solo's, no and I don't like the distortion for chords too much either but the clean channel is awesome and it sounds great with distortion pedals, gives a really powerfull sound

I also play a Burns sig Brian May RedSpecial sometimes and the tones are mind blowing!

sorry if i missed it in this video or im just not getting the grasp of this... im in a band and often there's songs that go from a relitivly clean sound with little or no overdrive sound... then for the chorus it goes into a driven sound..does the footswitch allow me to change between these channels or is it a matter of flickin switches and turning knobs on the actual amp itself?
clarke764 2 years ago
You have three options.
Run your guitar signal into an A/B pedal and switch between the two.
You can buy a boost/light overdrive pedal and boost the amp into overdrive.
Or you can get an overdrive/distortion pedal and use the drive on that - there are plenty of pedal to choose from.
NeatStar 2 years ago
volume knobs on your guitar aswell....

Correct, thank you.

I have one with the Celestion Blue speakers. Gibson Studio, American Strat, Mexican Tele and I am very happy with it, nice blues sounds
Demot7 2 years ago
like the sound... but can you get a more heavier sound with it too? lol I'm gonna buy a distortion pedal with it at least
PetieFr 2 years ago
all i can say is AC30+treble booster = god rock distrotion! i hate fuckers who use distorition pedals with this amp! there dont need it for the king of amps. trust .

How is that surf?! hahaha
FrankieBaker330 2 years ago
Re: How is that surf? - He's playing something very much like "Pipeline" by the Chantays, which was a big surf hit in the 60s.. That track was swimming in reverb.
