  • Great performance and lots of energy. I especially liked the crescendo you did to the doubles at 2:11. That was a nice effect in that room. -Watching this very much helped my interpretation of this piece. -You and Pedro Caneiro have the best recordings of Eugene's song here on YouTube. -Bravo, man! Best wishes.

  • @3clipse1326 Thank you very much for the kind words! I am honored to be mentioned in the same sentence as Pedro Carniero. Thanks and Happy New Year!

  • c'est un chef d'oeuvre!!! merci beaucoup Eugene Novotel!! Mais pour un exam c'est chaud^^ mais la personne 'envellopé' qui l'interprete va trop vite et ne fait pas tout les rimshot, 5/20^^

  • @migou664 Thanks for the kind words.

  • At the beginning I thought this solo was sort of gimmicky with all the stick changing and weird attack points all over the drum . But then I shut my eyes and just listened ..... I realized that what I thought were gimmicks were actually kick ass ideas . This is an outstanding piece and the performance was great as well .

  • Thanks for the kind words. Eugene writes great music and it is always fun to play!

  • Dr. Novotney, very nice!

(After I found out my computer was on mute I enjoyed your performance, with sound!)

Question: You move very appropriately while playing this piece...why did you not choose to face the audience and perform from memory?

I truly enjoyed your performance; I'm going to buy a copy for myself, from the information posted on a prior comment.

  • Thanks for the kind words! I chose to stand sideways so the audience could see my hands better. I hate going to a recital and seeing the back of a music stand when the piece is visual. I usually stand sideways for most multi-pieces, especially if I don't have time to memorize them. I didn't have time to memorize the piece for the concert. (BTW, that is not Dr. Novotney performing. My name is Dr. Dave Gerhart and I performed this on one of my DMA recitals).

  • :*S

Dr. Gerhart, forgive my fingers! (and) my brain.

Somehow, my typing got ahead of me.

    Bon!

  • No worries. I am glad you liked it and made a comment. Cheers!

  • Hey! I Really like this piece. Do you have any idea where i could download the notes? :)

  • Thanks for the kind words. It is available for purchase at Steve Weiss Music. Put the title in the search. It is part of the Noble and Cooley SD solos. Thanks!

  • Is that a normal brush being used, or is it some sort of rake or dreadlock? Whatever it is, it sounds great for this style!

  • It is a normal brush. It is a Clayton Cameron series brush.

  • sorry but i think when you are doing the ruflle you do too short....It´s my opinion...I think you could became logger...;)

    EXCELLANT WORK

  • awsome Dave this I think is my fav of your videos! Excellant

  • Very cool, nice groove and variety!

  • Very Nice. I'm currently preparing this piece as kind of a summer project. Thanks for providing a visual demonstration of the various techniques used throughout the piece.
