Why are we worried about this, when the Yellowstone National park is over 650,000 years over due? If that happened, it would be worse then this. They found dust from that all the way in Central Russia.
They say there is one in bolivia that is acting up,there is the one in yellow stone that is acting funny and thats just these three thats not counting the other supper volcanoes so it is just a matter of time before one or more of them blows.
The story vastly misrepresents the scientific data. The explosion of the Laacher See volcano 13000 years ago was the result of an extraordinary combination of circumstances. Even IF volcanic activity in the area would start again right now - of which we see no signs at all - it would most probably be several orders of magnitude smaller.
Hi there Christianna , I would love it if you had a job as a Tv presenter - nothing trashy but something worthy of you like the discovery channel or national geographic - you have such a nice speaking voice - and even though the subject matter is often grim and serious due to the world we are living in - they way you present the information makes it easier and more pleasant to digest it and take it in.
@ThePanzerfist44 Thankyou very much. Such a lovely comment. :) I will remeber that when times get tough. This constant doom is very wearing on the spirit sometimes. Happy New Year to you.
@ThePanzerfist44 She does have a beautiful voice, but unfortunately, like so many other Brits, she didn't pronounce the foreign name/word to make it sound like the word it is. Consequently, I had to search for the name of the area about which she was speaking because I couldn't understand her diction. It is pronounced more correctly as "lah-kher zay." But, otherwise, nicely reported.
The Daily Mail writes today "Is a super-volcano just 390 miles from London about to erupt?", suggesting that the Laacher See volcano in Western Germany could "erupt any time" and produce a large eruption such as the devastating (but still moderate, not super-volcano at all) Plinian eruption 11,900 years ago. Unfortunately, what the Daily Mail writes, is more dark fantasy than anything else. Read more and why, please have a look at the brilliant post on Dr. Erik Klemetti's Eruptions Blog. rsoe
@vaughn496 Thanks Vaughn :) Yep. Here we go again indeed!..Don't know if I can take any more of their nonsense! ;) Really bad weather here today.. watch this space..
In the beginning of 2011 there were 7 active volcanoes. Today there are 40+. Do the math however you want but a change is occurring and it is not gonna be good for a lot of poor sleeping people. Thanks for the update.
@8679justin .There are about 1,500 volcanoes that have been active for the past 10,000 years. At present there are about 600 active volcanoes during the current period through recorded history. There is 50 to 60 active volcanoes that erupt at least once yearly and at least 20 erupting at any given time. They say that the number of volcanoes in the world could be in the millions, dating back to when the Earth started... (6th April 2011)
@ChristiannaGarrett1 Now I feel dumb. I forget where I got those numbers from. Regardless look at the amount of super volcanoes that have become active. There has been activity across the globe in places that have been quite for a long time. No surprising given the solar activity over the last year and we have a year + until solar maximum.
@8679justin Ni worries! We are all learning all the time. To understand what is going on in the world we have to become amateur weather readers and geophysicists. It's hard work;) Happy New Year..
Good reporting, MsC. . .good news too, went and watched the carbon dioxide bubble vid & could hear ducks in the background. . .if an erruption was imminent they'd be long gone. . .happy new year!
@GriffinElliot Thanks GE..Happy New Year to you too :) I didn't listen to the vid...It's their use of the tectonic weapons that worries me. Nothing is safe..
yep nothing to see here! - Good greif Chris??? I know i keep saying this, but theres always a spare bed over here for ya! (unless our volcano blows, then you might find me under your bed? lol) - stranger than fiction isn't it. And then you go out shopping and people are just clueless? Amazing. Thanks for this.
@rachaelkavanagh1 haha! How's the flooding over there?? I have got so many stories lined up and they are all doom and gloom;) Still feel really lousy and fluey and fell asleep after posting this. Damn geo-viruses! Thanks for the offer. Is there anywhere safe the world?? Maybe the desert..

Here's a link to a seismic station in Czech wwwDOTigDOTcasDOTcz/en/structure/observatories/webnet/map-of-epicenters/
You'll see that there is always some movement. I have been following this from time to time.
Thanks Christina for posting!
