  • @NearAbbeyRoad I respect your opinion but you must remember that this technology has an even bigger effect for the diesel market which far trumps just the standard gasoline market. Also, the largest engine markets have nothing to do with general public transportation. Markets such as military, construction, aircraft, generator, and diesel markets emcompass most of the engine markets.

  • What is needed is a high power/weight ratio and high mpg. Has it got it?

Rotary engines (many good designs around) are economical when running at a constant speed at their economical "sweet spot", when used as range extenders in electric hybrids.

This is trying to stored energy in a buffer in the form of air rather than stored energy in the form of electricity in a battery.

Great idea as air is free. But this is not the way to do it. The French tried this and so far have none on sale.

  • This engine is a complicated piston engine. Pistons are old hat. They should wise up and go for rotary. Look on Youtube there are many credible designs. The Edwards Rotary is a great simple design with a high power/weight ratio.

This engine will not make it.

  • Your looking at the slowest advancement in hyped engineering in world history.

  • Flame speed?

  • woow what did i miss? so this is a new piston setup ... why bother? turbocharger plus a normal 4 cylinder will do the job sooo much better.

  • @42ph No it wont. This engine doesn't necessarily increase the compression at all, but it does greatly increase the potential compression ratio and the combustion rate of the air/fuel mixture.

  • ur right TommeyLeeReed. this is old tech.

  • @nadahere The old technology of split cycle designs never worked. The difference with this design is it does work. You can look at it working by searching "working Scuderi engine prototype". The performance of the engine can be verified through Southwest Research Institute.

  • @TheGoldenAge7777

They have missed the boat, even if it does work. Small, high power/weight ratio, simple Rotary designs is the way forward for use as range extenders in hybrids.

They need to go back and rethink instead of tinkering with 1800s technology to give a little more mpg.

    2 out of 10.

  • The problem is, its a piston engine. That only 20% efficiency...My rotary piston engine is 95% efficient

  • what are u talking bout!?

  • may be it has high torque for low rev
