It's great cos when he's just chillin on the guitar he sounds wayyy better than me, and other times he absolutely destroys the solo bits with his awesomeness ;)
I think its funny how people talk about Tommy's attitude and sense of humility. People forget that Tommy grew up as a performer from a very young age. He knows what it means to be an entertainer as well as a musician, and he does both brilliantly. I have never heard of him badmouthing other musicians, I've just seen him show off a little bit. is that so wrong?
I'm startin to think he's not so humble. Don't get me wrong, I love the man's playing more than words could say. But when I see him reach over and tune other people's guitars and have that look like he's proud to be the conduit for God's music, it kinda makes me think he's not really that humble.
Even so, it's okay if he's not perfect. His music IS!
@talbs13 I actually have some customers that come into my guitar shop that know him thru a yearly musical event they hold, and which he has attended before . They support what I said, but they also think his playing is beyond amazing. Maybe that gives him the right to be that way? idunno.
@guitartec Until you have shaken hands with him and talked to him one and one like I have, you really don't have any fair assessment of the man.
As for the guitars, He tunes other people's guitars to keep them from being out of tune...if you were playing with Tommy Emmanuel, wouldn't you want the best performance possible? Being able to take a correction from another musician is necessary to improvement, so really Tommy is doing them a favor. He's a great guy, and a grand master musician.
@Neverdii Well, I'll be getting a chance to play with him next Fall in an intimate setting. I'll let ya know what I think after that. BTW... if he reaches over to tune my axe, I'll reach over and tune his at the same time! :)
watching tommy play is like reading the best book ever...every exact detail the author wants is perfectly transferred from brain to paper. its like that for tommy, nothing gets forgotten or caught up in his arms, its all right from his brain to his hands, and his hands effortlessly dance along the fret board
The trick is to learn the baseline and then the melody. After you learn both, you combine them together. Simple as that! Now everyone can play like Tommy Emmanuel. lol Don't we all wish. He's great.
Lol. I love the way TE can say what you just said and actually bring it like it's easy. "You just do this and this and this and wonderful things will happen."
@CanadaGuy80 personally I learn it all at once and find that once I can play the tune that I can control my thumb how I like. Learning his tunes this way has allowed me to have more finger / thumb independance when I make my own stuff i.e. I can change-up a baseline when I feel like it. Each to their own though, I am simply saying how it works for me. Keep rocking Tommy and come back to England so I can score a hat-trick of TE concerts!!!
@lip333 omg, this is what I said once in my comment too!!! glad it's not only me thinking that :) will go to see him for the 3rd time next year. It's confirmed, he will be in Czech Republic.. :)) long live Tommy the best guitar player in the world! :)
ive tried learning this on the guitar and it's fuckin hard! ill get there.... in a couple of years lol. best guitarist ever. hope im as good as him when im his age
oh btw i didnt say i couldnt play them 2gether i just said that i find it some what dificault... the talent that i have is like an ant up against him so dont have a crack at me when i have my own opinion ph123454321
Whenever he plays, you feel like Buzz from the end of Toy Story 2. Ya know when Jessie flys around the room like crazy and his wings just pop out? He's like.."W..T..F?"
Don't lie mate. If you were semi pro, you'd be able to play the parts together....perhaps when you get as good as Tommy you can then say it's easy... but for now let everyone marvel in Tommy's excellence. I absolutely love this piece!
Being a drummer, and bassest must have added to his playing. He sets a groove, and entertains the audiance as well as himself. His light hearted personality comes across in his act. I think everyone on YouTube would love to
attend a concert, and it sure would be a pleasure to meet the man.Not to mention, everyone would love to be able to play a song of his LIKE HIM,,and be able to entertain someone,,,,like he has ALL OF US !
i met him on saturday and sunday last and he's a really really nice guy. he's some man for jokes and is always willing to help you out with any problems. but the best thing about him is he's really normal and down-to-earth, not bigheaded or full of himself, not a show-off. and he's a fantastic entertainer too. his gig was great and dinner with him was even better.
quote: "well my chinese fans dont call it that, they call it angerina! and another favourite is endress load!"
@219erman I met him before one of his gigs here in New Zealand, we talked for about five minutes, he played classical gas just to the ten of us in the room. It was amazing, I hope he comes to New Zealand again!
I love when he's up the neck and come all the way down and slides back into it. There's something about that song that makes me feel like everything is going to be alright. Like a fresh new start. What a talent.
My favorite Tommy Emmanuel song...He looks so cruisy whilst having all the groove and style the piece entails! Love the part with the sweep with both hands...it rocks!
wow, classic Chet groove...love it. It's from the Endless Road Album. The whole Album is absolutely brilliant and a must have for any fingerstyle or guitar fan.
sorry, but i have to ask, this comment was posted 2 months ago, which would have been May 2006, but you said you seen him play live in June 2006, this song, how can this be?

it really is easy... the only thing tht people have trouble doing is adding the bass in with the lead tht he does on thier own they are very simple.
i am a semi professional guitarist and i can play the bass and lead separatly very well but when i attempt to put them 2gether it is quite hard.
