what does dual clutch mean?

It means that first, third and fifth are connected to one clutch, while second, fourth, sixth and reverse are cennected to a second clutch. When changing gears, the next gear is already selected. Then, when you change, the computer disengages one clutch (with the current gear connected) and engages another clutch, engaging the next gear. This makes the changes go much faster. VW/Audis DSG and Porsches PDK are examples.

Anyone that would seriously take the new M3 over the new Carrera S has clearly never driven a carrera. Cars on paper are much different than actually driving them. M3 is about looking good on paper, because it sure doesn't look good in real life. The carrera is a drivers car. I should know, I had a 99' and it was the best thing since caramel went into coffee. It's 556hp yet it's as quick (or slow) as this Carrera w/PDK at 345hp....

Well, the CTS-V was 1.6 sec faster than the M3 during the 2008 C&D Lightining Lap (Corvette Z51 was 4.4 sec faster). The CTS-V has a skidpad of .93g, a 0-60 of 4.3 sec and a top speed of 191mph. Don't get me wrong, the BMW M3 is a great car and I would love to have one any day of the week, but the CTS-V is hardly as tame as you seem to think. I don't know why, but cars like the M3 just don't seem to do it for me like the CTS-V.

You're right, it is a better performer than I thought and I did see lightning lap a few weeks ago. I did find that it has beaten the m3 and m5 around the track (it should've with THAT much hp), but I just I was completely turned off by the curb weight of about 4,300lbs. I myself love the lighter nimble cars and couldn't imagine driving a 4,300lbs car on a track.

I myself would take the m3 over the CTS-V. But I would rather take a Carrera and a Cayman S over the m3.

We all can appreciate some of the small and nimble cars. But sometimes you just need that big ol' land yacht. The beauty of cars like that is that they can serve as a comfortable every day car that still hauls ass. Besides, it doesn't matter if the thing is over 2 tons if the suspension is up to the task. But still, like you said, there is no replacment for light cars like the Carrera.

Not true necessarily. The Carrera is actually slightly faster than this m3 from C/D tests.

The Carrera is more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Yea it does tend to understeer. Its balanced, but since teh engine sits at teh back, more force is applied to the rear wheels, giving less traction to the front

I played the SD and HD side-by-side in two windows, and the HD video is 11 seconds shorter while the sound moves at the same speed in both versions. I'd guess it's a video encoding error.
