  • i am definetly going to get one, and name it Ivory

  • Thanks for the info =D

I definitely plan on getting a pet arctic fox in the future, been my favorite animal since I was a kid

  • Figures. Seems as though their personality and behavior varies as much as a cat or a dog. I don't see what's stopping foxes from becoming more common as a domesticated pet. Maybe people like you and I just have an odd preference, but it seems like such an excellent pet to have.

How intelligent are they? Can they learn tricks?

  • Their personality does vary a lot. :)

There are a lot more foxes as pets than people realize. Problem is a lot of people are misinformed and think it's wrong to have a pet that is not a domestic animal such as a dog or cat so a lot of people with foxes keep quiet so they don't have to deal with criticism.

Foxes are extremely intelligent! Shawnee learned how to open my bedroom door. Lol. They can be taught some basic tricks and to walk on a leash, use a litter box, things like that. :).

  • are they affectionate? all the affection i ever see in these (yours, mostly) videos are them nosing up to your hand. Do they like being pet, scratched...?

  • We bought all of our foxes after they were full grown.. The arctic and red foxes were not raised to be pets, they were only kept as breeders and are not very tame. Our gray fox Shawnee was raised as a house pet and she is very sweet. She LOVES her belly rubbed and likes to lay in our laps and sit on our shoulders. If the fox is raised with lots of attention as a baby it will make a wonderful pet, but they all have different personalities so some will be more affectionate than others.

  • sounds wonderful!

how do they behave around guests/strangers?

  • That's another thing that strongly depends on the personality of the fox. Inari is rather indifferent, while Christmas gets pretty worked up. Shawnee (our gray) is just happy for more attention. Misty, our female red/marble is ok and our male red Rusty is usually nervous.

  • my brothers dog used to bury his treats but right after he buried them our puppie would eat them

  • I'm surprised their fur doesn't get dirty.
