@jazaazma You might want to take a look at my newer videos done in the later versions of Blender. I suggest you look my video titled "Blender 2.58/2.59 Fedora Hat Modeling Tutorial", that should show you where the mirror modifier is.
@weeliano At about 7:50, when you press CTRL+, it smoothed yours. When I did that, mine pinched at the nose, cockpit, and tailfin. So there's dips in those spots.
@OnClicked Did you turn on "Clipping"on your mirror modifier? Also you can try to add a Subdivision modifier in the Modifiers tab on the properties window, usually on the right. I am assuming you are using the latest Blender 2.6 and above.
@aarrmmeenndd100 It takes some time to learn, but if you have good learning materials and a project to work on, it should be quite easy to learn. It just takes a lot of time and practice. For a start I suggest you Google "Neal Hirsig Blender tutorials" and follow those first. You can also visit blendercookie website and learn from there.
@aarrmmeenndd100 I used the older version of Blender for this model. Blender 2.49b. The current version is 2.6 and has a much different user interface but most of the shortcuts are still the same.
@SamWazamTV Hi, try this, on the lower left corner of each viewport, you can can change the function. Go to the extreme lower left of the header menu of the timeline viewport window. Click on the icon and a menu will pop out, change it to the User Preferences and change your settings there. The problem you described is quite common and it seems to be affecting computers with Intel Graphics hardware.
Thanks for this video, I made a convincing jet and this is my second ever model in blender! (I've been using it for about 2 days).
I used to use Bryce when I was a kid, makes me appreciate how amazing this program is, this must be the best freeware program to ever come out. If the program wasn't good enough the community is even more amazing.
@wcoltdrediff Hey Great to know you are finding my videos useful. Do check out the other Blender video tutorials I made. Blender is far more capable than anyone thinks, and especially for an open source software. Hope you will continue to create more 3D works with it! Cheers!
I followed up until about 4:00 I had trouble with the tail section, when I tried to extrude it made 2 tails (because the two surfaces were facing away from each other. How do I normalize the surface with the ground?
@wcoltdrediff In your mirror modifier, make sure you turn on Do clipping. Also make sure there are enough faces to pull out. Note the direction of the face you are pulling from. Check that you are set to Global axis when manipulating the sub-objects.
@weeliano I think I solved the problem, I forgot to hit z when extruding. (*doh)
I am using 2.58 (the new version) I think Do clipping is equivalent to the copy button. (where is do clipping in 2.58?)
Another related problem was when I tried to do 3:11 the scaling before the inward extrusion, what happened was my plane created another shape in the middle - as if the two sides of the plane were two different parts, it's not united like yours is. (maybe that's what "do clipping" does)
@Sumanth575 you mean between 2.5 and 2.49? There are some short cut differences and the interface of 2.5 is more polished, but the common shortcuts are still the same.
@MrDillon66 That's the latest version Blender, the maya preset is for Maya users used to Maya shortcuts. Google Blender 2.49 download and you should be able to download the older version of Blender which I'm using for the video demonstration.
Wow! I don't get it. at about 5:58 you push in the aft facing face of the fuselage, but at 6:00 all of a sudden there are 3 extra faces on the edge of these aft facing faces allowing you to push in the faces and leave a "thick boarder". I have watched it over and over again and you don't seem to make loop cuts or do anything else that might produce these new faces they just appear. I would love to understand this.
@GengoNoTabi Hi, what I did was very simple. After selecting the AFT faces, I pressed E to extrude, and you can see the faces move as every time you extrude, it defaults to move. I right mouse click once to cancel the move and the faces snapped back, with the faces still selected, I pressed S to scale them down a little, then I press E again to extrude inwards. In the Mirror Modifier, Do clipping is turned on.
I love how in these jets you're basically strapped onto the top of a veritable bomb that spews out fire after combusting fossil fuels under your ass with more or less a few inches of steel maybe some insulation and wiring and stuff, then you have the fuel all around you in the wings and or chassis. Takes balls to fly. I want to do it.
@GraveUypo Trust me, go Blender all the way. It is free and open source. I used 3dsMax and Maya before and the speed you can model with the mesh modeling and subdivision tools is phenomenal! I can definitely model faster in Blender than compared to 3dsmax or Maya.
@weeliano The music sounds like something that would be in Sim City4. Nice modeling, he saw there was nothing, so he divided thou cube and makeith creation.
@weeliano I am going to make a video response to this if I make a good one may not be as I work on it though. I'm not that good yet with windows movie maker and such. But I will put out something, tell me what you think of my little fluid sims and my mug lol.

Hi, im wondering about something. Im a young film maker, ive been working with many programs over the years, and although im only a freshman in high school, ive gotten into compositing, and other special effects. ive gotten to the point where i can think of something to do in AE, and do it w.o outside help. but now my one weakness has always been 3d programs, so im starting to use blender, and i was wondering if there was any tips on my introduction to the program. thanks
@narutokiller9 Sure! Just be really passionate and interested in what you want to learn and stay focused. Learning a 3D application be it Blender, Maya or 3dsMax requires lots of practice and patience as they all have very steep learning curves. Start slowly by learning the foundations first. Model simple objects in the beginning and slowly progress to harder stuff. It will take about 3 months with a minimum of 15 minutes each day to get proficient. Ask and you will receive.
@narutokiller9 When Your modeling as you probably know, always always always unless you have a good reason use mirror =). Stay away from triangles, those can get confusing and you pretty much have everythign else covered! Oh and I would play around with the different features such as the subsurf and the Game Engine
Amazing video. I'm trying to model some airplanes in blender myself; only trouble is that I'm quite new to the program. To see you do this so quickly is inspiring and I did pick up a few techniques from your video.

Thanks for the video. I learn something new every day and with this video, I learned how to better manipulate a model by refining the subsurf using additional verts...nice!
dude I just downloaded this program last night and I've been watching videos on YouTube on how to make stuff. This is an awesome tutorial. I wish I knew how to do that!
You can! Just get started and don't worry about the rest. Most students or blender or other 3D software give themselves too much pressure when they see completed works done by other people with years of experience. Learn at your own pace, and eventually you will become just as good or even better than me. Just don't give up!
yeah I keep watching tutorials on youtube with voice overs and no voice overs and everything they explain I can't do, I can't even see how they are doing the stuff they do!
Thanks for your kind compliments! I'm no genius and you can be just as good or even better than me. You just have to be patient, find a subject you like to model and keep working on it and enjoy modeling with blender.
NEVER underestimate your own abilities my friend. Be patient and take small steps, you can learn anything you are passionate about. Just keep your mind focused at the final result and keep working on it. You can do it!
