swimming in this time period is much more impressive. Everyone wears speedos, not everyone wears caps, and their starts are much slower. if they swam in our generation they could probably cut off .5-1 second off their 50 free

What's amazing with Biondi is he spent considerable amount of time in water polo, not trainings for swimming competition in his early years, yet he dominated the swimming competition.

He's the best of the best.

You need to understand something. Swimming as a sport is always evolving. In 1985, there is no way Phelps goes the times he does now. THere are too many things that have improved. Pools, suits, training methods, weight training etc. have changed since the 2000 games in Sydney. Biondi; wearing the same suit, in the same pool, and the same age could beat Phelps in the 50, 100, and probably 200 free.

Based on what evidence? Biondi didn't have as much variety in his specialties, didn't have great underwtaers, and didn't have the best stroke. he would get his ass kicked.

well..they are differents. popov has been the greatest sprinter ever and phelps the most complete. from 1991 to 1998 popov didnt lose any race

Thanks, man. That proof is one of the most studied in history of the swimming. It's an amazing and almost unbelievable result, but not an insignificant result, in fact. Is an evidence that if you relax in the last sequence, even if you are in a big distance of the rest of swimmers, yes, you can loose. Nesty proved that.

The detail is which Nesty continued winning the proof for three year after that. He's became world champion in 1991 and got your name on the history of the sports. He is a great national hero, on Suriname. And one of the best swimmers of all time, beeing an authentic ethnic exception in swimming.

in all the races of biondi vs. jager i have never seen jager beat biondi once. it's just like phelps vs. lochte in the im's today or kitajima vs. hansen in the breastroke

Matt Biondi has been the most talented swimmer in 100m freestyle ever. Even better than Popov.

He was able to swim easily under 49s when nobody else could even get close.

Of course, he was very good at 50m event too.
