  • i would LOVE to hear a dubstep remix of this

  • Sounds like the SEGA Genesis.

  • so wonderful for a 8bit song!

  • aaah! this sounds so ... flamboyant.

  • <3 Love this series.

  • Why does this sound so much better then the one I am used to?

  • @Brandon5l9 This is Akumajou Densetsu, it has the VRC6 chip, providing extra sound channels. Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse doesn't.

  • U SUCK ASS

  • what's 'not possible'? that i can have my own opinion?

in some cases i would say that the akumajou versions are better, but in most cases i think the castlevania versions are. i just feel that the japanese versions are too pumped up in a lot of cases. sometimes the minimal castlevania versions are actually more creepy, because they only have the necessary elements.

  • I just pooped my pants!

  • @GutiLV That's why I walk like that because I'm pooping!

  • Why didn't we get as good NES sound chips as the Japanese here in Europe!?

  • @Deathlock84 The NES didn't have the 2 connector pins needed to play them!

  • I kinda prefer the NES sounds over the Famicom. Something about this just feels weird to me. XD

  • @BrianRingeisen i kind of agree. the nes version was obviously more simple/minimal, and i think maybe that works a little better. the famicom versions are maybe just a *bit* too hyped up. BUT, i do like both, and think it's pretty cool to be able to finally hear the famicom versions. it's like having 2 different mixes of these great tracks.

  • @ToxicBrainSludge Not possible. I think you were used to the minimal NES versions, and so prefer them. If I'd been given these two soundtracks when I was a kid and asked which to choose to fit the game, I'd pick this one.

  • Just listening to the bass line in this version is cool!

  • @FarhanC99, There was a lot of music from Symphony of the Night. The most popular song was called "Dracula's Castle." That might be the one you're looking for.

  • Whats the Name of the music from symphony of the night?

  • Comment removed

  • this is the only song i fight demons to...well just the first 20 seconds...in a montage form because it'd be ridiculous if i said i slayed so many demons in 20 seconds

  • WTF is this,Gameboy Advance?

  • @VirtualSonic43 Not quite. The original Japanese Castlevania III (Akumajou Densetsu, which translates roughly as "Demon Castle Legend") was packaged with special hardware in the cartridge: a chip that increased the number of sound channels from the NES's native five to eight; this pretty much doubled the number of simultaneous sounds that could be used for music, which is why it sounds so different. The international version lacks the chip, so the music had to be simplified.

  • @Nevareh But I mean that the Sound of the game sounds so GBA-ish so I assume that the same chip from the Famicom NES was used in it!!!

  • twice as many synth voices, twice as metal.

  • Sounds like the 80s

  • The NES version kicks the JP versions ass all day, every day.

    It's not even a comparison.

  • Wow famicom sound kicks Nes ass

  • Though the screen is a North America version and a European version

Music is a Japanese version where special sound source LSI is installed.

  • @fa92043 you're right. Everyone, check the wikipedia page on it, the japanese nintendo had greater sound ability than it's western counterpart.

  • is'ent this the Japanese version?

  • It's a funny story. They're called "blocks" in japan instead of levels because you actually were not legally allowed to own the entire game, I.E., all its consummate levels in one single household. So if you wanted to play through the whole game, you and your friends would have to run to his house, or "block", to finish the game! Aren't the Japanese so odd? XD

  • What does this has to do with hating the Jonas Brothers?.No trolling and stay on topic please.

  • Japanese gamers were lucky...

  • I love this sound. I have the NES version and this track is awesome in that version as well, but I love the lush sound on this.

  • Omg AWESOME music :D

  • Stop feeding the troll

  • Who fucking cares.

  • Yet the NES version sounds significantly better than the JP version.

  • @NeoSonicStrike

Funny I think me and the majority of the fans find this ( the Jap version) MUCH better

  • @NeoSonicStrike This was clearly recorded off an Emulator, so while it has the additional layers, it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the actual hardware.

The whole reason I can't stand playing NES and SNES games on emulators is that they sound like shit. You simply can't compare dedicated sound hardware to software emulation.

  • @MrSpencerTube Sure you can, if you know how that hardware works, and if your CPU is fast enough and your software is well written enough.

  • @MrSpencerTube I agree, this came to me as extremely obvious after I played Chrono Trigger on an emulator when I had played it on real hardware, 200+ times.

  • @MrSpencerTube I just recorded some audio off an emulator and it honestly sounds perfect. I think this was recorded with bad settings or suffered when the wav was transferred to the movie file and then some more when going to youtube. Ill put the videos up later this week

  • @atebit80 actually this one is up now, just go to my channel. Ill have the rest up by the end of the week

  • @NeoSonicStrike The NES version sounds alot clearer, but this is still awesome

  • VRC6 chip for Japan, three more audio channels. MMC5 Chip for America, the American version of the game's music had to be downgraded to comply with the NES's standard three channels.

  • Okay, we get it, you don't need to put the same comment 10 fucking times. We know you're just trying to troll.

  • Except you've posted the same thing 10 times and yet you need to post it again.

Instead of that, stop commenting and comment on the NES one if that's what you like.

  • sure is troll's in here

  • @NeoSonicStrike If anything the NES version certainly has a cleaner sound quality.

  • You've been posting the same thing for a year. Are you a fag or what? LOL

  • @NeoSonicStrike

    What's up, faggot? =]

    Enjoying your NES shittunes?

  • Damn, this is awesome. I remember playing this game (with less detailed music, of course).

  • Antichrist Demoncore is right, the Famicom was capable of more simultaneous polyphony than the NES. That's why the harmonies sound thicker in this version.

  • What? This version is WAY better, more layers and a better tone over all. The song is really brought to life with the famicom. Listen to the background beat the NES couldn't even handle that.

  • I don't agree, I personally feel top to bottom the NES version completely OUTCLASSES the FC version, the extra sound channels have more of a creepy feel to them, but the quality in music takes a dip from the NES.

  • is there a list of famicom games that use extra channels somewhere?

  • @Alianger lemme kno if u find one.. if there are more games that were also on the nes but with better music likethis one i definetly want to hear it

  • @Alianger: Most of Konami's later games on the Famicom used the VRC6, which is what you're hearing right now. Notable examples include this game and the Famicom port of Gradius II: GOFER no Yabou.

  • Nope

    Gradius II used the VRC5

    Video mapper only

  • @shalpp: What do you mean?

  • @Alianger Most konami games used the chip to enhance the stereo from Japan. I had the oppoturnity to play a few select Konami games oh lord does it sound sexy. Also SMB: Lost Levels/SMB 2 from Japan has more sound effects as well along with Zelda on the FDS and Metroid sounded more superior too.

  • @Alianger wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Memory_Management_Controller

  • @Manicup Awesome, thanks.

  • @Alianger yeah alianger, i think it was the disk system

  • is there a english-translated version of akumajou densetsu? because i don't want to sacrifice the story-related prompts for the music.

  • its one or the other i guess. Maybe u can find the script somewhere idk. Its the same game just better music.

  • Yes, search "Akumajou Densetsu English translation" on Google. I only play that version to tell you the truth xD, I really like the music in this version better

  • WTF IS it wit people like Doktor Mongolo here constantly posting comments with not a single word in them?

  • what does "block 1" mean, is that how the japanese name levels, "blocks"?

  • Yeah, it means the same thing as level

it says it in the American release too

  • I watched a video of jonas brothers here in youtube and I already regret that I did. You are totally right...

  • Yeah I know they really suck

  • @sabremasterzero I call them the Jonas Fuckers.

  • your kiddin me right

  • If they made a song(remake) for this song. I would go to their doorsteps and crack their heads with the Vampire Killer.

  • @90sHeroMAXD They did. It's in the last level of Super Castlevania IV and it's quite possibly even better than this one, if you can believe it!

  • @90sHeroMAXD Well, watch?v=XuMWJJZb5OA, watch?v=WYunQCkW8HQ

  • @90sHeroMAXD

remade for super castlevania 4, rondo of blood, the saturn version of symphony of the night, dawn of sorrow, judgement, as far as i know

  • Famicom all the way (I own that machine, great stuff, it works nicely even after more than 26 years!), that grey piece of dumbed down plastic called NES can go and rot in a random corner! If you want to experience the true "magic" of Nintendo-hardware, this is just a fraction of it, and it is still mind-blowing... *poof*

Nice upload! 5/5 stars of gold ;)

  • Oh god flame war.

  • I prefer to listen to this version, and thats all that counts. Fuck all the technical aspects, you can analyze music all you want but if you enjoy this version better than the NES one, than its superior in your opinion.

  • ...and if we disagree, we're wrong? No. That's not how it works.

You have made countless posts here that basically all say the exact same thing. You've made your point already, and people disagree. Deal with it and move on.

  • @NeoSonicStrike

YOU ARE STILL BAGGING ON THIS SONG? OMG, you have no life!!!

  • When i told most people that after school i listen to this song constantyl, they would say that too.....

  • you are a funny asshole. i like you.

  • This music sounds like a cross between the music to the first stage of Castlevania 1 and Michael Jackson's Thriller.

  • the main theme from all 3 NES castlevanias are awesome.

  • incredible!. I love to see a nightclub full of people dancing on this great piece of music

  • The NES version is unfathomably superior, and it isn't close.

  • Troll.

  • Not really.

The difference between me and a troll, is that trolls generally don't believe what they say, I DO.

The NES soundtrack is superior to the Japanese version.

  • Hurr i'm going to assume my opinion is fact and state it 6 fucking times on one video. Yes you are a troll.

  • Translation: I DON'T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS, MINE MAKES THE MOST SINCE HURR

  • What, so that's actually what you think?

Seriously, go away and troll something else for being superior in every way.

  • You might like the sound better because you grew up with the NES soundtrack but the Famicom version had VRC6 which added 2 extra wave channels and besides this is technically the original soundtrack and the North American Soundtrack is a dumbed down version.

  • I've listened to them both Extensively, Castlevania 3 is unfathomably superior beyond words.

And it's really not that close.

  • Haha, oh you troll.

  • it adds three sound channels and was only used in 4 games.

  • So this is the PAL version or is it the JP version of Area 1? I do know it's definitely not the American version. Either way, CV3 is my favorite game in the series, with Super Castlevania IV a close second.

  • This is the Japanese version.

  • It's the the JP version of Area 1. The Famicom version contained a special chip, produced by Konami, which enhanced the audio and graphics of the game. Also, the Famicom contained two pins that allowed catridges to provide external sound enhancements. They were removed from the NES, thus resulting in games like Castlevania having inferior sound compared to their Famicom counterparts.

  • darn it all

    I can't find a download link for this. ):

  • This is the BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD!!!IT'S SO INCREDIBLE!

  • Yes, the US version is alot better. Good sound perception you have :)

  • Yes, the US version is alot better. Disregard the negative points on the comment, you are absolutely correct.

  • Comment removed

  • this is why i always play this version over CVIII!! it sounds better and the font is easier to read rather than the old english one used in the american release

  • this kicks ass

  • Too bad the US version of this game do not have this chips because this make the JAP version of castlevania the BEST MUSIC EVER (even beat S.C.A.T.)

  • man those extra channels make the bridge at 0:32 sound so much better

  • I have played the famicon disk castlevania 3 and I can attest it indeed has much better music.

  • almost all Nes and Famicom games have extra hardware in the cart, mostly adding extra ram. Because the standard was only 2k!

    If i remember right.

  • I wish this game wasn't rare in the PAL format =(

  • Replying to my own comment lol, I just got this game for my NES. Paid £30 for it tough =S

  • i just got me UK NES's region lock disabled on consolepassion then imported the far cheaper and more common US version

  • Hehe cool. It's annoying that this game is one of the rarest PAL NES games because of how good it is and that it is really common in the US. Getting access to the US NES market is good as you will get certain games for much cheaper prices as you probably know. I did it by buying a Top Loader =) It plays both all US and European NES carts.

  • nice one on the top loader must have costed an arm and an leg, i'm just glad i got my NES unlocked, now i own an few fare un's in the form of the Castlevania 3, Metalstorm and Journey To Silius even if metalstorm and journey to silius suck in 50 hertz all i'll say thank fuck for emulators lol even if owning the propper carts does feel great

  • Top Loader cost me £60 but it didnt have the original box (it would be like £100+ then). Good choice of games, and I understand how they must play in 50hz because I own a US repro cart with a Region-free chip in it, but it still plays quite slow in my PAL NES =S

  • WOW this is crisp!

  • konami was awesome in 8 bit and 16 bit soundtrack freaking awesome every music from this periode especialy the castlevania series and Rocket Knight adventure is so epic. The hardware was to limited at this period it's so marvelous

  • Also, the NES didn't have an FM synthesyzer, which was even more retarded.

  • Does this song have a name?

  • The Beginning

  • Because I would really like to download it.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for uploading the great tracks of this game in their glorious quality.

  • i prefer this song, yes ,m talking about the japanese version offcourse ,m even dancing on it.

be awair that those fm soundchannels in the nes and the vrc6/7 etc,,, are not really annalogue,in fact each sound channel contains a dac converter, why it was further fm transmitted may be a mystery.

  • this is personally my fav castlevania song i think,at least for the nes ones, always rememeber this song when u start the game, trevor throws off his cape around him and the music starts up,fuckin awesome:D

  • This version of the song is much better then the NES version. Still amazing music for the NES but this has been fleshed out a lot more.

oh if only they had used the same sound technology in the NES. better still if they would release these games on the VC we could hear them the way the were meant to sound.

it wouldn't take much work. they've got game form Japan on the VC already.

  • I don't see how anyone could hate this orignal version of the music.

  • to me it's trevor's theme.

  • castlevania probably has the 2nd best 8-bit music next to megaman.

  • I kind of prefer the simpler version

    Must by just nostalgia :-P

  • This version is so much better than the one out of Japan... Nice to hear it again :)

  • i cant remember but i guess there was a chip that enhance the sound in the american version

  • I think it was the other way around... If you check American or European versions of the game (walkthroughs or whatever) and compare the music, you will notice the difference. That's why I looked on purpose for Akumajou Densetsu instead of Castlevania ;)

  • VRC6 sound chip couldn't be used on the American version of the game (Konami mfd. the Japanese FamiCom version themselves; but Nintendo had to take up assembly of carts for the U.S. market).

  • Actually It never got released as far as I know.

If you look at the bottom of your NES system you will see a place for enchantment chip to use original sound track but plans for it never got in to markets.

  • No, the chip was inside of the game.

  • Uuuh... No... There was no different sound chip in games, there were only sound ports that were either or removed or blocked in NES cartridget due to fact that NES couldn't handle 'em withouth the expansion that'd allow it to handle the rest of the sound channels.

  • Open one Castlevania 3 cartridge so you can see the extra chip.

  • As much as I'd love to open cartridges they are unfortunately sealed so that I'd have to break the cover. In another words, I don't have right equiptment to do so.

Anyways, as I stated before, nearly all of the NES games especially ones ported from famicom ones has the original sound track but it's been sealed with other cartridge closing the two other channels. As far as I remember and know, NES console itself is uncapable to use those two unused sound ports withouth special enchanter.
