Proof that just cos you have the equipment doesn't mean you can play the song. The phrasing, tempo & even the tune is all wrong. Sounds like a very bad cover band. Sorry!
This guitar is one of the Custom Shop limited edition Ace Model that came out before the production models were available. It doesn't come equipped to smoke or do anything fancy, just rock! A lot of these custom shop models came with Dimarzio PAFs instead of Super Distortion pickups which really replicate Ace's studio sound. He recorded with vintage Les Pauls equipped with PAFs.
This was LP, Zendrive OD pedal, THD Hot Plate attenuator, '76 Marshall JMP MKII 50w non-master head w/El34s. I used the line out of the Hot Plate into my soundcard. This Ace guitar has Dimarzio PAFs standard instead of Super D's. I think the PAFs generally sound and record better but the Super D's sound awesome live. The Zendrive has a lot of tone shaping capabilities and is a great boost pedal for an already breaking up amp.
Ace recently said he puts all tone controls on 5 with the exception of Treble which he puts on 10.
I usually set my Marshall (if using pedals) clean with PRES 0 BASS 2 MID 1 TREB 4 VOL1: 4 VOL 2: 2. Guitar goes into input 1 "hi gain" and I bridge input 1, "low gain" into input 2 "high gain".
one of my favorites off the love gun album,i love the ace signature model,do you think you could do a in depth review with lots of close ups and possibly different pick up configurations for me ,oops i mean all of us lol.keep on rockin man.
That's kiss sound, thats what a LP + Marshall can do ! Man the guitar is so fucking beautiful and you play very well.Hey, can you send me that Ace tabs of I Stole Your Love? That would be awesome, thanks, keep rocking \m/_
Not bad. Riff is not right though, have another listen to it and you'll see what I mean. Incidentally Paul Stanley wrote this based on the Ritchie Blackmore riff in Burn by Deep Purple.
yes, Ace is god but dont forget that Paul wrote some of theres best riff, like duce and mr speed for example. Paul is an good riff maker, no doubt about that., People always think that Ace was the guitarman in Kiss, thats not true, they where 2 guys who come up with the riff, and if u like the oldstyle rock n roll type, like tomorow and tonight and let me know, strutter boogie riff, thats Paul.Ace was more...strange ways...twisted days...
For sure but Ace did write the majority of the guitar solo's in KISS, there were a few that he and Paul shared like in "I Want You", "I Stole Your Love" and then there was a few solos that Paul did all on his own like in "Sure Know Something" and "A World Without Heros".
Many of those parts (riffs and rhythm) that Ace played were created by Paul, being that he, along with Gene, wrote and composed most of those songs. If you really pay attention to what he plays, you will see Paul playing plenty. He even takes on some soloing parts in a song or two. I wouldn't underestimate his playing.
a lot of the times you're right, paul is just dancing around having fun. remember though, he's doing it in 7" heels. he's already got most of us beat. and paul's a pretty fair guitarist in his own right, he can just afford to dick around on stage when he's got such a wall of sound behind hm.
EVERY AMP AND GUITAR ARE DIFFERENT!!! For my Marshall 1976 JMP MKii Non-Master volume, the following tone settings give me a nice clear rhythm sound: Presence:5 Bass:2 Middle:8 Treble:6 Vol 1:5 Vol 2:2 Bridge input 1 (bottom left of the four inputs) into input 2 (top right of the four inputs) Plug guitar into input 1 (top left) Adjust pedals for maximum VOLUME with minimum DRIVE or DISTORTION.(you want to hit the preamp stage with lots of voltage, not lots of distorted signal).
It's important to dial up your tone while playing with your band or at least along to a cd that's cranked if you want to sound like the original performer. I love a full rich tone but often that tone doesn't work when playing along with another guitarist, bass player and drummer. "Thin" tones like Paul's rhythm sound really cut through and compliment the tones generated by the others in the band. I've spent hours dialing in a tone only to find that it doesn't work when playing with others.
1 - All KISS members have sung lead vocals, but in the early days it was mostly Gene and Paul. Peter would sing his songs and Ace's songs until Ace sung his first lead vocal on "Dynasty"'s "Shock Me".
2 - Paul mostly plays rhythm but has taken a few lead solos (the beginning of the solo in "I Stole Your Love" for example. Ace plays chord inversions to bulk up the sound then takes most of the solo breaks.
3 - Generally, Paul sings the "romantic" songs and Gene takes the "bombastic" ones.
1-Peter never sang any Ace songs. Shock Me is from the Love Gun album. Ace sang 3 songs on Dynasty;2,000 Man, Hard Times, and Save Your Love. Most lead vocals are still done by Gene/Paul, although other band members contributed more on lead, as KISS ggot bigger in the late 70's.
2-Also a couple of duel leads between Ace/Paul;Detroit Rock City and King of the Nighttime World.
3-Take Me, Take It Off, and I Just Wanna are far from "romantic".:-)
Peter sang "Strange Ways" from "Hotter Than Hell" and "Getaway" from "Dressed To Kill", both penned by Frehley. Tommy Thayer has sung "Shock Me" live and Eric Singer takes vocals where Peter would normally sing. "Take Me", "Take It Off", and "I Just Wanna F...get You" are classic examples of Paul's "romantic" songwriting. Paul also wrote Gene's signature song "God Of Thunder" so he wasn't always "mushy", though the Demon changed the song significantly to make it his own.
Damnet...you got me on the "Peter singing Ace's tunes"! As far as guys stepping up to lead on vocals, I said Gene and Paul did MOST of the lead vocals throughout KISS' existence. By the way, nice job on "Speedin' Back To My Baby".
I've never tried to copy anyone's solos note for note. I don't have the patience so my solos are usually "unique". During live performances I let it rip and no one notices. Good question though!
Good eye 74BD74, it is. I kept calling guitar stores when I heard it was about to be released and found a killer one before it even had a chance to be put on display. It rocks!
Thanks Plexi LP! This was LP, Zendrive OD pedal, THD Hot Plate attenuator, '76 Marshall 50w non-master head. I used the line out of the Hot Plate into my soundcard. This Ace guitar has Dimarzio PAFs instead of Super D's. I think the PAFs record better but the Super D's sould awesome live. The Zendrive has a lot of tone shaping capabilities. For live playing its the amp alone, but for Youtube vids "line out" recording with a little OD pedal gives more punch.
I just bought a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Now, what amp should i get - a VOX Valvetronix combo or a Marshall half stack around the same price? (I don't care about portability, just sound (but 95% of the time will be at household volume settings - not gigs.)
Thanks for the compliment. I've been playing over twenty years. I used to play a lot of KISS songs in high school bands back in the day. They're a blast to play and can be mastered pretty easily with a little practice. You can pull off an accurate cover of a KISS song by pretty much sticking to simple power chords and working on the timing since both Ace and Paul did little things in the "feel" department that gave their songs a little extra life.
Exceptional playing!!! Good luck always!!!

3. PAUL STANLEY as the vocalist!? i just started learning about kiss, so i don't know a whole lot.
