  • @kygao98 Well, but Natalia seems so confident and..fearless. While Zakharova seems.. like a tiny wind would make her fall.

  • I love her dancing but these fouettes were not her best work:(

  • shi i s the best

  • How many turns was that? has anyone counted?! Amazing!!

  • Definitely a wonderful demonstration of will power and force, but also definitely NOT a THING OF BEAUTY... this does not represent the purity, beauty and delicacy of the Waganowa school neither the tradition of the russian ballet....

  • her legs are sooo long!!!

  • i don't like :s

  • Personally, i dont like how her legs goes up in fouettes but she still is amazing!

  • she is amazing. realy.

    ..

but natalia osipova is better at this coda ;)

  • @vsxvjnusv I actually think svetlana zakharova is better because (at least in the video i saw) natalia just looks like she's trying to fit as many turns as possible into the music whereas svetlana is really in sync with the music. that's just my opinion though.

  • it seems to me like her upper body is a little farther back which might be putting her off balance...or maybe she is doing that because of the raked stage. but good fouettes overall. she makes a beautiful kitri!

  • Das sieht aus als würde ihr Bein gleich abbrechen und wegfliegen xD

  • she seemed a lil tilted sideways... :/ shes a great dancer, but i dont like her fouettes very much.

  • Chick has hecka good fouettes! haha Most wonderful!

  • svetlana the best.

  • She makes it look so easy.

  • Zakharova is really perfect and lovely, her body, conditions, expresion, technic, elegance, all Svetlana makes is absolutly incredible, but it´s true that she needs work her pirouettes for to be incredible at all.

  • Захарова - балерина от Бога.

  • What I wouldn't give to kick that high in my fouettes! Mine are all low to the ground or I lose my balance. She's great!

  • @margondine Ugh maximova's are awkward looking... her rhythm is really even and weird. Lookes like she's happing and barely forcing her way through it....

  • Look up 'Ekaterina Maximova Fouettes' for clean Fouettes.

  • I don't know, she gets round, she's fast, but it still looks clumsy to me. Like she's trying too hard. Ballet is supposed to 'look' easy.

I don't like the way she holds her back, I think.

    It's far from flawless.

  • @margondine do you even do ballet?? i seriously doubt you know what the hell you are talking about

  • i dont know i love her pas de deuxs and basically her everything except for her fouttes, They just look awkward

  • @balleticgirl2311wp i totally agree with u. she's my favorite dancer since i saw her dancing in giselle and to me she's simply the best i've ever seen in my entire life but... her fouettes seem to be the only weakness she has. they really look awkward :D

  • that is unbelievable.. that feet is way beautiful!!

  • Think of how many years that took her to learn. Flawless.

  • great!

  • she's good at this... :)

  • Her Fouette's are flawless. There is no wavering in her form and other than drifting, she's perfect!

  • Wonderful!!!

  • She is the BESt!!

  • that looks funny and pretty at the same time..?

  • Zakharova is definitely one of my favorite current ballerinas.

  • I think she's a great ballerina and I love how does she dance. But I think that other ballerinas do better fouettes

  • OMG this is FREAKIN AWSOME!

  • all i can say is:

    WOW!!!

  • Es desprolija-

Paloma Herrera lo hace a la perfeccion

  • om freaking GOSH! :( i hope one day i can do that :)

  • Zakarova is the best balletrina

  • those fouettes were not the prettyest, but she still had amazing controll over them, the vagonova method is so much harder, u have to open to the side, its weird :S but shes amazing so it doesnt matter haha

  • @ToodyayDANCER4Ever how can you tell?

  • I think nina ananiashvili's fouettes are the best ever!Svetlana turns the fouettes also very good but not as good as nina

  • non potete dire che la Zakharova non è super!!! E'una delle migliori ballerine al mondo!(secondo me la migliore...)

    Bellissima come sempre!!

  • Horrible. And I know that it's vaganova fouettes, and they're harder to do. it's still not pretty.

  • uh, did you just say Svetlana Zakharova was horrible? she's one of the most reknowned and respected ballerinas in the world...

    Her fouettes are amazing!!!

  • i agree. she's brilliant

  • shes not even moving!!!!

  • most companies look for between 5'4 and 5'10. She is pretty good but these arent normal fueates

  • Elle est magnifique

  • She needs to control her leg more. She just flings it out there.

  • they're vaganova fouttes, they're supposed to just open to the side, and she actually has amazing control especially with her hyper extension :)

  • Perfect!!

  • Все-таки Света совершенно потрясающая техничка!

  • mannnnnnnnn! shes good! look at her leg! its outstretched! that is soooooo good! amazing!

  • Amazing! Btw, somebody knows how tall she is ?

  • She's 5' 8 " daring :)

  • That's so cool to know. I'm 5'8" and always thought that it was too tall :)

  • most ballet companies want really tall girls and don't take girls under certain heights, so your're actually very lucky to be 5'8". :-)

  • i danced with the moscow ballet and when i auditioned they didnt want anyone over 5'4''

  • how tall were you?

  • i am 5'2''

  • yeah a friend of me with dutch national ballet is quite tall, it's always very difficult to find a partner for her, you could rather be a bit smaller....

  • Thank you :)

And also, I think it just depends on the company. Some want different heights of dancers. They all look for something different.

Personally, I think it should be solely based on technique, not height, or body type.

  • thank u!! i hate ballet now:(i was doing well but i was told i was the woung shape...but i was doing beter than the other girls...im advreg hight and wate....but the teacher sead i looked "to curvy and top hevy"...........but peol out side ballet say i look thin:L

:Lconfusing......but yea thy want all the dansers about the same size

  • her legs look soooooooo long they r just going to tip her over

  • Yes indeed these are the Russian style .

In fact..alot of the fouette clpis on UTube r from that style. One could say it's the more popular way, shame cos the other way I think is harder to execute precisely. What r the rules for the Russian ones? should the leg be 90% or 45% at the side before it comes into retiré? if so she aint doing that at all.

  • The leg should never drop below 90 degrees. These look pretty darn good to me!

  • Fouette turns should use a 1/4 ronde de jambe..she uses a kind of flick and swoop upwards to generate the turn. It works but it's something else.

  • Yeah these are Russian fouettes not like most of the fouettes you see.

  • I agree with NDCBCdancer - there's a difference between Cecchetti and Vaganova fouettes. Vaganova fouettes don't rande de jambe. I was raised under Cecchetti style, and then switched over to Vaganova...I think Cecchetti fouettes look better, but the Vaganova technique is harder!

  • yes... also on RAD method, which is similar to Cecchetti in some ways... you have to do the rond de jambe, so your leg goes front, side then retiré... I also think Vaganova fouettes are harder... but it is cool to try both and learn both ways...

  • the RAD method is much like the ISTD method too. you do the rond de jambe from front to side then bring it in to retiré.

i've never tried the Vaganova fouettes but i'd like to some day.

  • Isn't it much harder to do it "the Vaganova way"? When you open the leg to the side you don't have the drive of the jambe...

  • Oh, I see now you've already talked about that :)

  • It isn't much harder actually. In fact, I always found them easier because there wasn't any movement messing up my alignment. Everything is very centered in Vaganova fouettes. You just spin around your axis:)

  • wow im taught that way, we arent allowed to do the rond de jambe before turning. we have to oopen our leg to the side :O!

  • thats different!

  • yes it is MUCH harder to do vaganova fouettes

  • eat a cookie

    but that was amazing

  • that was amazing maybe cause turns are my weak point. but wow that was good. of course duh there are those who can do better, but she was really good. What company is she with and what ballet was this??

  • bolshoi ballet in moscow, don quixote, she was kitri

  • i love the comments from people who would critisize on her "mistakes" and how she could improve, from the comfort of their chairs.

she was great, and she looked lovely.

i'd like to see YOU do that.

  • I agree!

I would like for someone with feet, talent, charisma, and precision to show her up (like that will happen).

I also find it funny that people say she is "doing them wrong". That is completely, and entirely incorrect. If you knew anything about ballet, you would know that there is multiple schools that are all correct, it just depends where you train.

    Honestly people.

  • In opera you rejoice in how so many people can sing the same precise notes with so many vocal personalities, and remind yourself that nobody can do it perfectly. Dancers suffer so much physically it's a wonder that they can perform a role more than once.

I salute all of you, past and present.

  • @befferina

Yes she would be doing them correctly, she is just not placing her hip very well which is undoubtedly pulling her off of her leg. Maybe she was just off that day...who knows. There is however no argument that she is a dancer with great talent!

  • esas piernas demasiado largas q te dificultan la perfeccion de la pierna cuando sale al lado entre otras cosas,y es q como el ballet nacional de cuba no hay.

  • If you want to see the queen of foutees look as Natalia Osipova. SZ doesn't come close in technique or excitement.

  • I TOTALLY LOVE HER LEGS

  • i thought it was great but ending was messed up, lost her balance right at the end

  • Muchas extensiones pero estos fouttes le restan elegancia...un poco forzado el eje quizá por subir demasiado la pierna.

  • A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. she's so great!!!

  • how anyone can do that is beyond me.

  • It looked like her leg was broken when she opened into second!!! Not pretty!!!!

  • I thought that too. I guess it's just her crazy arch/instep! (My gosh it's AMAZING!) And also, maybe her legs are a bit hyper-extended.

  • yea that was the one thing that stuck out in my mind too.

  • They're a lot hyperextended lol!!!

  • i cannot fouette save my freaking life. she is amazing. end of story.

  • oh my god that was fantastic!!! it just didnt end, and that was on pointe! god i wish i could do that.

  • I love Russian dancers, but I am just not a fan at all of Russian fouettes.

  • yeah they look strange to me

but i think it's because her leg goes out above 90 maybs

  • ahhhhhhhh thts insane!!!

  • dont get me wrong, i absolutely LOVE watching svetlana, but she's better at adagios

    full stop.

    x

  • i agree, it shows off her talent better.

  • omggggggggggg

  • I dont like Bolshoi and here... she is ok, but nothing special....Definitly Mariinsky (Lopatkina, Volochkova, Mahalina)- much better. I feel for Bolshoi..

  • whattttt? i don't mean to fight but i just love her!

  • AWESOME!!!! just one thing....her elbows are kinda drooping down when they are in second position...

  • holy ballerina body. dear god. eat a hamburger! lol.

  • woww!! that was absolutly amazing! her feet must killlllllll

  • I know it is very good what she does, but I think she looks a bit like a insect (with the skinny legs and all). I like her better in adagio's (like swan lake).

  • ick. sorry, i know this is gunna get a lot of negatives but... i dont like her fouettes. i normally LOVE to watch her dance. for some reason, this one is not beautiful to me. now, her odette... THAT is GORGEOUS!

  • i agree, her fouettes weren't so hot.

kinda looked like she was thrusting out her chest a lot.

    idk. there was something wrong...

  • i can do three in a row. lol.

  • Stunning!

  • WOW!!! I so wish I could do that!

  • she does a nice job for being 13.

when you get stronger, your legs look less "rubbery"

her technique is there, she just needs the strength to hold it.

  • she is not 13

  • her fouettes make me seasick. they don't look save and it makes me nervous when I see that! :) but appart from that she technically does a fan-tas-tic job!

  • hahaha her leg looks like rubber XD

  • its coz of the shape of her legs!! they are great esp in adagios but amybe it looks like rubber when she is moving fast. at least u won´t find many of her kind!!

  • SHE IS DAMN GOOD!

I wish I could dance like her but I need a bit of work! After all I'm only 13!

  • shes freaking insane! (in a good way!)

  • a few people have said she sucks but... they are obviously jealous!

  • damn bitch!! WOW

i can only do that many on flat :/

  • People who want to voice an honest and upright opinion do so politely and understandingly.

People who are downright jealous are mean. End of it.

  • fouettes are much harder with very hyper extended legs like hers and she can still pull them off better than many many people!!

  • i agree. i have hyper extended legs too and it isnt easy.

  • I love just about everything else she does, but I don't enjoy watching her fouettes. She's over crossing her passe, and the hyperextension in her knees causes the fouette leg to go above 90 degrees and throw her a little off balance. It just doesn't seem seamless, as it should.

  • They where ok. She seem unstable. She does super well in slower tempi, like in the Pharaoh's Daughter.

  • ....she's good...really good...but i think she's much better when it comes to slower music...but still she's good...

  • Wow I can't do near as good! BEAUTILFUL,JUST PLAIN BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • That was amazing!!! i am learning how to do them!! they are so hard!!! xxx

  • To all of u guys who think her fouettes are: effortless, crap, jerky, and too 'kicky', y dont u go and make a video of yourself doing loads of fouettes. i cant wait to see that...........

  • Hmmm... I was taught that you should never 'kick' out of a turned out posse when doing Fouettes... she pretty much went aganist every rule that I learned.

  • there are different styles of doing things in ballet maybe that was the way she learned fouettes

  • I wouldn't say these are her best turns I've seen, but she sure is splendid in other videos.

  • For someone whos obviously quite perfessional her arms should be alot better. She looked like someone who had been training for a long time but still doesn't have enough strength to make her dancing look effortless.

  • she doesn't lose her balance really, but it looks a bit like she has to work hard to keep the pirouettes in order..it's not effortless

  • i have to say, they were pretty flawless.

  • WTF tamiatami!?

    can you do anyy better?

  • I dont like her fouettes

  • Can U do any better?

  • NO not at all. But i didnt say that I could do it better, I just dont like her fouettes. And that is just what I think.

  • Well I love them!

  • i kinda agree with her. her leg does this wierd flick thing and it's kind of jerky

  • That's called a Russian Fouette. The one commonly done here is the Italian Fouette. It's not jerky.

  • Oraaaaaaaaallle, alguien sabe cuantas piruetas hizo

  • Check also 'Viengsay Valdes Cisne Negro 17/2/2008'

    She is amazing too :-)

  • I think Gillian Murphy wins in the fouettes. Hands down. :)

  • You should then watch this: Ekaterina Maximova,Don Quixote coda fouettes

  • I agree. She is amazing. So is Nina Ananiashvili.

  • Ekatrina Maximova and Zakarova are both very good. They just have different styles. I like both. :)

  • also, to the people saying Ekatrina Maximova is better, in my opinion i dont think so.

i just watched a video of her, and i watched the spot she started the entire time.

by the end she was about 3 feet away from where she began.

this girl stayed in place the whole time, which is crazzyy difficult to do!

i dont mean to spark an argument or anything

    its just my opinion :]

  • dannng. she's like the energizer bunny, she just keeps going and going...

    hahaha.

i can only do like 4 fouettes.

    she's amazing!

  • her extended leg and foot are amazing! can't stop staring...

  • She is the best.

  • sono senza fiato...

  • Umm yeah, I just watched her again-- most of these critical comments are really absurd. She pulls them out beautifully, and she's got a fabulous stage presence--very chic. You all need to be quiet!

  • Take a look at Ekatrina Maximova if you want to see rock solid, amazing fouettes. She was doing doubles before anyone else, and used to keep her hands on her hips too. Also, Cynthia Gregory IMO had the most fantastic fouettee I've ever seen, and yes I saw her live. I see nothing wrong with Zakarova's, and she's doing Russians, not Italians. The tempo is quite fast, and like someone pointed out, things look different on a raked stage.

  • J'adoreee elle est simplement magnifique!!!

    Bravoo

  • She's like, really skinny, and like all of you say, HYPER EXTENDED. Wow, okay enough with that picture.

  • I don't think actually that she is trying to put her foot extended, I mean, she has hyper extension. That is probably natural for her, which is fine...

I agree with almostlover98, you shouldn't correct a proffesional who has been woking to dance great like this probably her whole life..

  • im really hyper extended too, and beagle86, i dont think your a professional dancer or teacher so, i think it would be smart not to correct professional dancers on the internet.

so stop correcting. you probably couldent do better.

  • well duh it looks too high, shes hyperextended beyond belief!

  • this a right way to make the turns...the leg is open at le second...not in front of her...but she isn't the best to make fouettè...the leg it's to high and she looks falling...

  • I agree, the line of the leg is extended too high a la seconde. But I love her anyway.

  • ela é impressionante.. mas eu acho que se ela pusesse o braço na cintura ficaria mais bonito.
