not being a guitar guy like Scott, I wasn't as enthused to watch as he was but after seeing this once, I had to watch 10 times!! wow tthis was great! loved the version..keep it up.
Martin: I've been playing guitar professionally for 35 years. I think I enjoyed that minute and 47 sec as much as ANYTHING I've seen on you tube !! Wonderful technique, and your own unique signature comes through with the licks one expects to hear as well... VERY NICE.........
I came onto Youtube looking for the Garcia version. This is beautiful. Thank you for demonstrating the bending technique with the ring finger of your left hand - it answers a LOT of questions! - Superb.
this guy is really really good and sensitive and true to the song and doesnt mess around varying for the sake of it. i never know whether to keep listening or rush off, inspired, to my own forlorn playing and add a little extra to my technique and enjoyment. nice quandary
You just got to get out of here with that playing! Everything I have heard from you is just so well done it makes me sick :), with the graceful moving of your melodies and all of that.
You make those strings talk my friend. I'm trying to learn slide but all my stuff sounds the same. Just to watch, it doesn't "look" that difficult but getting good tone and playing beyond a simple blues progression is tough.
Very funny! I take it the song your playing is called "teach your children"....I'm 35 and struggling to teach myself, doesn't help having fingers like a bunch of bananas I suppose, nice playing though, I admire your talent, but I also drool over that sound, cheers!
I had never heard of Martin Gross until I noticed his video while searching for Jerry Douglas. You are now added to my list of respected slide players. Awesome job man!!!
Amazing!! How do you get that Resonator to have the tone of a steel? It's almost as if it's backed up with a steel guitar on the sound track. Does the dobro have a pickup that feeds the recording track or an amp? All your videos have incredible style and feeling. Thanks for sharing, Martin!
I do not see a posibility to arrange a solo for Cincinnati Rag better and more tastefull than Jerry´s version, but I promise to work on that one and upload what I´ve got. This is going to take a while `cause I´m away for vacation the next couple of weeks.
Sounds so beautiful..could listen to you all day.

Amazing you can get so much sound out of one guitar. I swear I can hear a rhythm guitar a bass maybe even some hint of banjo and drum. Trombone too?

Hi Banjoguy331,
the reso is recorded with only one microfone. Just added a little reverb on the mix. The steel sound comes from the string bending techunique.
