  • Sounds so beautiful..could listen to you all day.

  • Wow, this is some of the tastiest dobro picking I've heard. This is going into my April faves.

  • You are a real master!!! Thnks for sharing your talent. :)

  • not being a guitar guy like Scott, I wasn't as enthused to watch as he was but after seeing this once, I had to watch 10 times!! wow tthis was great! loved the version..keep it up.

  • Martin: I've been playing guitar professionally for 35 years. I think I enjoyed that minute and 47 sec as much as ANYTHING I've seen on you tube !! Wonderful technique, and your own unique signature comes through with the licks one expects to hear as well... VERY NICE.........

  • Mr. Gross, I would purely love to hear you pick 'n slide WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN.

    Any chance of that, sir?

  • WOW. Just wow.

My all-time favorite CSNY song, played with style and real 'voice'.

Martin ol' boy, you can sure touch our souls with that thing,

Keep on pickin' and slidin', buddy..

  • I came onto Youtube looking for the Garcia version. This is beautiful. Thank you for demonstrating the bending technique with the ring finger of your left hand - it answers a LOT of questions! - Superb.

  • Superb picking. You play very well. The real feeling of the country song

  • i really like the bending technique. it's the first i've seen of it. xcelant

  • hehe that is soo cool.let me know when your dvd comes out,,you are the best martin,

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • this guy is really really good and sensitive and true to the song and doesnt mess around varying for the sake of it. i never know whether to keep listening or rush off, inspired, to my own forlorn playing and add a little extra to my technique and enjoyment. nice quandary

  • Amazing you can get so much sound out of one guitar. I swear I can hear a rhythm guitar a bass maybe even some hint of banjo and drum. Trombone too?

  • Love that chord at 1:17! Awesome!

  • martin, i am your newest fan

  • absolutely great!

  • I prefer it on the PSG - but hey, thats just me! I have to say I found your playing most enjoyable - thanks for sharing it with us all.

  • it´s an amazing sound! sounds like a pedal steel nice bending!

  • You just got to get out of here with that playing! Everything I have heard from you is just so well done it makes me sick :), with the graceful moving of your melodies and all of that.

  • this is the slide music so many find nausiating......sorry martin love your work but this sucks

  • I've always wanted to learn pedal steel, but now I want to learn this technique instead. Really incredible stuff!

  • You make those strings talk my friend. I'm trying to learn slide but all my stuff sounds the same. Just to watch, it doesn't "look" that difficult but getting good tone and playing beyond a simple blues progression is tough.

  • Hey, that is really great music. Bravo!

  • Wow, bending the string behind the bar to get the pedal effect. I'm impressed and inspired!

  • Love to listen, brings back memories. Great talent (best I've heard).

  • beautifully done..

  • thank you......love that song

  • Very funny! I take it the song your playing is called "teach your children"....I'm 35 and struggling to teach myself, doesn't help having fingers like a bunch of bananas I suppose, nice playing though, I admire your talent, but I also drool over that sound, cheers!

  • one of the best dobro players I've seen

  • I loved your playing of this song, the bending technique has really put some ideas into my head too with regards to my own playing. Great stuff.

Your the great this side of heaven!

    *****

    Thank's!

    Curt

  • Amazing!! How do you get that Resonator to have the tone of a steel? It's almost as if it's backed up with a steel guitar on the sound track. Does the dobro have a pickup that feeds the recording track or an amp? All your videos have incredible style and feeling. Thanks for sharing, Martin!

  • Hi Banjoguy331,

the reso is recorded with only one microfone. Just added a little reverb on the mix. The steel sound comes from the string bending techunique.

    Martin

  • @banjoguy331

See how he is bending the strings with his ring finger? And let me tell, easier said than done.

  • Beautiful Martin, this really is empowering.

    I love your style.

  • Well done! I really enjoyed that.

    Bob

  • Very well played. Brilliant song choice.

  • Martin, Sounds very nice. You think you could tell me what brand/make of guitar this is? Looks like the W/S Rob Ickes Signature model...

  • it´s a Meredith

  • Watching your left hand is a great lesson in playing. Superb!

  • One of my favorite songs, and you gave it a new life. Thanks for sharing Martin. Peace!

  • Hey Martin , that's a great picking for 'Teach your Children " , What about a Tab for this tune ?

Thanks for such a great sound

  • Sounds great on a Bro! - What kind of tuning do you use (GBDGBD)???

  • GBDGAD

  • I use.018-.020-.029-.035-.045-.56

  • Great sound. What gauge strings do you use on the reso?

  • Hey stretch50,

I do not see a posibility to arrange a solo for Cincinnati Rag better and more tastefull than Jerry´s version, but I promise to work on that one and upload what I´ve got. This is going to take a while `cause I´m away for vacation the next couple of weeks.

    cheers

  • Hey Martin, great job, thanks for joining the ResoHangout!

  • Just f*ck*n AWESOME! Keep on playing please

  • Man, that's the closest I ever heard a reso get to a pedal steel sound. Fantastic!
