For a minute there I thought they weren't real! I've been in my shed deep in the woods writing my manafesto "knowing is Half the Battle" exsposing the link between Cobra W. The reason for Ultra Magnus being saved and and Prime dying was given by the writers of the Movie at Botcon '10. They said that if a transformer's limbs are cut off, then the energon is sealed. Prime was shot in the lower stomach and other places on his main body allowing the energon to spill out to fast to be stopped. They said it was in the original script but taken out due to time and the fact they didn't want to upset kids as much. Also, that's why he turned black because of the energon loss

@megaknux Bay said Barricade was a scout and not a frontline fighter. His job was to find things and guide the 'cons to locations. He found the glasses and lead Starscream to Hoover Dam. He was still recovering from his fight with Bumblebee so he wouldn't have been much help even if he were there. Bay wrote him in on TF2 and used him but changed his name to Sideways to avoid confusion because he was now a different type of car. Ppl say he is next to Shockwave and prime shoots him?

I believe I have solved this mystery.

The 'murderer' (Galvatron/Megs) had one too many liquid energon cans that night and was on the streets of Autobot city, drunk. And Optimus tried to confront him for disrupting the peace.

The ensuing fight disarmed both Prime and the murderer, and the scuffle left the murderer and Prime badly bruised.

Optimus recovered his gun and was about to take out his assailant, but Hot Rod shot him and allowed the murderer to finish him off with a spare gun.
