1. The spyder is the wavy part that connects the bottom of the cone to the speakers frame. 2. Speakers are rated (usually) by RMS power, which is the max they can take before damage occurs or it starts to sound like shit. This speakers RMS is apparently much lower than its destruction point.
Heh. I have one of similar size that did the exact same thing. Took 5 minutes of a 100w 20-60hz sweep and the only side effect was the VC warming a bit.

It's probably a 10 watt RMS speaker, unlike most paper speakers which are 10 watts peak.
