This is gorgeous! It's not played too fast--nor too slow. If you listen to the various recordings of this song by Nyman himself or recording pianists, you'll see that they're all played at different tempos...the song can be played slower than this or faster than this--whatever the pianist feels.

Hi, what version you playing? I've got the The Heart Asks Pleasure First (The Promise/ The Sacrifice) version from the book 'Piano Revisited' and I really need to find out how long that version lasts (without having to learn it first!!!!) It's for my music performance in like two weeks which has to be 5-8 minutes so I need to know if I can play it with another piece. :S thanks!!! xx

You'll probably need another piece; it normally takes about 1.5-3 minutes, depending on your tempo and how many repeats you use.

I had to learn it at grade 6, but my friend didn't have to learn it until grade 8. So I'm wondering what grade it actually is =S

Can someone let me know? As my friend and I are currently confused. And we only have the sheet music...it is not in book-form, so we don't have its' grade classification written down.

Aw, I'm sure it wouldn't. I took lessons for five years and then quit when I was 12; haven't played seriously in 10 years but I'm learning this piece and it's taken me maybe half a year so far but that's only because I don't practice very often or focus on learning the new bits very often. So if I can do it, you certainly can.
