its all in the nutrients i have found. Different systems seem pretty much the same growth rate. one interesting point is when soil plants are fed hydro nutrients the same thing occurs and the leafs become bigger that what the plant naturally has normally
why wouldnt you just use one bucket with a pump at the bottom 6-12'' of straight tube and a sprinkler type misting fitting on the end of the tube ending half way up the net pots? i just think id be easier to plug in one thing and use 1 bucket
This is Aeroponics. The roots grow in air and are covered in nutrient water many times per day. Air pumped in to reservoir helps all systems. Blocking light from reservoir indoor is not necessary but helps.Root chamber should be light blocked but I paid $ so you could see it here.
This is just a research demo into how much aeroponic systems do not have to be so expensive using strong pumps, misters and hoses.
It is not how the water gets on the roots that makes it aero it is how the roots are exposed to air. If the medium is air the roots are in then it is aeroponics no matter how they are moistened.
misters dont clog if you use a filter. I have never used cutting gel on my cuttings and they always root. DOn't bother wasting money on rooting powder, you dont need it at all. HAve you found that the lants still grow ok even though you're tubs are not light proof? DId the roots stay ok even without lightproofness. Can you grow fine without lightproof tubs. I really can't be bothered to paint my tubs to lightproof them. Most tubs never come in black
One thing to keep in mind with aeroponics is that the size of the net pot does not matter as the roots grow into the tank and hang. many people forget this and think you need a big pot for larger plants. although it is good it isnt needed as the root do not stay in the pot like in soil. i am working on designing an aero system that doesnt need large pots and will be able to germinate hundreds of seeds without many grow holes. you need to eliminate the use of rockwl, pebbles perlite.
Great system! I liked it so much I went out and built one myself. I have posted a video reply including the system that I made with my tomato plants growing. I'm only on day 2 of the system so I can't wait to see what happens in a week. Thanks so much!
i love the video. You think that by pumping air into the resivoir might help?I aledgedly seen 12 cuttings take root in a week and less in same bottom container w/just water ran through a reverse osmosis and the plants were growing so well that minimal nutes were added and pow, they all took off like a rocket!it amazed me,and 1 was put outside and budded fine.Spidermites got the others!have pics, sory so long.ramco69.
Yes there are holes at the very bottom where the water comes in. This is also the most quet ebb and flow the water shoots horizontally out at the very bottom of the tray to fill and goes back down the same way to empty.
Cheapest timer is the dial ones that let it go for 15min at a time. The one with many little teet. Or spend $12 at hardware store for a digital timer with 4 to 6 one minute settings. Ideally have the hydro store one that supports 1min on 2 min off but they are a rip off. Deal on one? Post it.

Clogging misters
Incomplete root coverage
More complicated than this

I don't get it. How is this Aero? It just looks like Ebb & flow. What's the difference?

How is this one draining back? Do you have hole in the bottom of the feed tube?

it goes back down the pump when it turns off

The roots need to be in darkness.
The water supply if changed frequently does not have to be.
It is better to cover it though. Algae even in darkness with roots breaks down to be food for fungus gnats.
If growing with organics algae may smooth things out similar to how an environment in a fish tank works.

yes pumping air in res helps.
outdoors place in trash bag or black cover the res.
indoors it is fine for at least 2 weeks uncovered.
This was just a hydronutes research test to see if periodic watering would allow roots air and water similar to misting aeroponics.
Ebb and flow or a true aeroponic setup is recommended.

so the water simply leaks back into the bottom compartment?
what kind of timers do u suggest for this? where are the pump and timers available at?
thx

It goes back through the pump
$10 RioJet 50gph pump at pet store
Easier is same system with pots.
See Ebb Flow tobacco video.
