Feeding my turtles - also getting bitten

I do the same thing for my turtle, I put it by its mouth and then it bites it. I was wondering how often should one feed his turtle, mine's like the same size as the videos'...and when should one feed it fish...if one should??

Lol I have the same tank, and floating rock. Why do they always snatch and then go into the water?! Mine does it too.

You can pick up your turtles. It's okay. It hurts a little bit if they bite. But they're not like cobras or anything. And it's when the turtles are big is when the bites probably hurt a lot more.

My Yellow Bellied Slider has dark green or "black" shell with brigth green/olive designs, and Hard shell. (Its my first turtle~ and everyone else has Red Ear sliders) ;o since I see most turtles with green or brown shells I wonder if mine is healthy too

@bobomatrix do you have a uv light and basking area for them? that is essensial for healthy shells. Also they need calcium. Try putting a piece of cuttle fish bone in the tank for them to bite on. It will float on the water & you can take it out when it gets furry.

@slash23579 No it's not turtles know they cannot swallow out of the water. I always put my turtles food on his dock and he climbs on it grabs a mouth full and jumps back into the water and eats it. It gives them exercise while they eat. Also he can eat at his own pace and the food won't break up or get soggy like you just drop it in the water.

my marbel anglefish wont eat and my turtle is scared of them im in a 15gallon tank at the moment , but my turtle eats fine and things but i only seen him poop twice or so , and the anglefish just swim around but dont eat but poop alot ?!?! help please i have a yellow belly slider on hes own i wanted another 1 but they only got yellow belly sliders i want a mississippi map turtle :D

I fed them minnows once for when I had to be out of town for 2 days. Man, my female turtle was ALL OVER THEM... my male turtle tried but gave up pretty easily and stuck with the anacharis plants. LOL.

Other than that, I feed them Reptomin (variety can with pellets, shrimp, and krill), fruits, vegetables, and hotdogs every now and then. =)

Nah, just regular carrots.

If you're unsure about whether or not a specific food is good for them, just look it up on Google. I do it all the time. Make sure the website is trustworthy and more than one website say it's ok. =)

when your turtles were smaller, did they always pop up to the top to get air? i have two very small turtles and they act almost as if they cant swim! theyll go in the water and wont pop up to the top unless they can reach the top just by standing. theyll just strech their legs out. They WILL NOT swim to the top. even over the course of 20 minutes and im afraid of them drounding. : (

You say they're very small turtles. When my turtles were little, I would put water that was enough for them to stand up and still be able to breathe. Don't fill your tank so much to where they can't stand up and breathe on their own. Wait till they're a little bigger for them to be able to add plenty of water for them to actually swim.

It doesn't hurt THAT bad. I think the shock factor plays a big part in it. LOL.

They've bitten me less & less. I'll tell you something from my experience... hold the very end of the pellet to where it's really sticking out. That way they will go for the pellet instead of the "bigger looking pellet" (your finger).

Sometimes my turtles STILL try going for my fingers. Just help them out and aim the pellet to their mouths. Don't be scared. It's fun and cute to hand feed your turtles. =)

yours are tiny to be a year old in this video. i have 2 also about 2.5 years old and mine are huge. my girl is about 1.5 inches shy of being the size of a dinner plate. LOVED the END.

They love those turtle sticks. Incidentally, so do cats. I used to have a snapping turtle, and the cats would try to fish the sticks out when I fed him....needless to say, they got bit more than once.

Haha thank you. =D I just need new suction cups for the dock. My turtles are pretty strong... they always manage to get the suction cups off. Sometimes I give up and just let the dock float around LOL.
