  • Fuck this life, fuck this world. It takes everything good away from me! I do own this record on vinyl, not to brag, but I'm just lazy and wanted to hear it here goddamn song here. My little dumb drunken self shall find another mats video to watch haha.

  • porra!

  • sacanagem..

  • bullshit....

  • WTF!??.......Over!!

  • fuck yr jazz.

  • A lot of people suck....

WMG just seems to take the biscuit

  • FUCK YOU YOUTBE

  • Name the artist of the put YOU!! ESTA MUY BUENO HABER SI ME PLEASE RESPOND WITH THE NAME OF THEME AND INTERPRETER

  • REMOVE THIS SH@@

  • what the fuck is this shit. did i curse up someone's ass? you bet i did.

  • warnerbros. signed on 2 months ago with jewtube so you can put the original song back in.

  • I think Paul would dig this version better somehow.

  • Ditto.

  • Viacom is a bunch of cunts.

  • what kills me about these take down notices is that how does the record companies and bands expect to sell music if people can't even hear what they are buying? Theres no fucking way I'm spending 14+ dollars on a piece of plastic without knowing if its good or not.

  • i hate music!

  • totally agree, they're too stupid to realize what we're doing is marketing their product for free. Disabling embedding drives me absolutely nuts too. Heaven forbid I try to introduce a few hundred people on facebook to a great band.

  • Its ok,the recording industry is becoming more irrelevant everyday. Unless they wake up they'll be history in another few years. No great loss ;)

  • The kind of music I always like to make love to back in the late eighties ...

  • i cn't even hear the lyrics wut a rip off

  • lol

  • im sad this is not what i wanted ;-(

  • Cat's Ass; why don't you just take the video off? Isn't it obvious by the comments people hate this video and the accompanying mucus? This is part of the reason I'm never buying...no, never paying for another CD.

  • Eghhh ! Why don't you just play some POLKA song, even THAT would be better than this !

  • that's a a very sad shame.

  • Wow that's really rude and dumb, why disgrace a great band like this,I hate it when people remove good songs on youtube.Geez I hope paul Westeberg doesn't get angry at you guys.

  • I was forced to remove the song.......

  • ha.. i kind of like "this disco shit". thanks!

  • What is this disgusting disco shit?????

  • This disco crap sucks

  • Hey, how do I stop the annoying disco crap (a.k.a. "Dust: Adrian Alberti Mix") that Visa is trying to get me to buy to stop playing over this video? Screw you, Visa!

  • "White Trash SOng"! Paul Rules!

  • WMG sucks

  • Always like this song; sounds like Bryan Adams singing/playing with The Nerves.

  • Yeah, I read that Paul was pretty brutal towards Chris (the drummer) during that time.

Some of it had to do with Chris playing behind the beat and not on it. Mostly it probably had to do with them just being sick of each other.

  • he hated that drummer

  • Paul said "We had some drinks, and were really plugged in to the P.A., and playing along with the backing track"...

  • I kinda like the video. They're being half-assed and goofy, switching instruments and completely screwing up the lip-syncing. There isn't a hint of a band taking themselves too seriously which means a lot coming from that era.

  • Love the song, like the band, and who cares how a video is

  • gay,but amazing. i'm stoned.

  • great song, yes. great band. love these guys, but this is a pretty lame video, especially by Replacements standards. Shows the brilliance of their non-video-videos. it has a couple moments but I can't believe they made suck a lame video!

  • would have have to agree with you but at this point in their career their management was looking for a more "radio friendly" sound and MTV appeal-hence the "Flash and Glitter" image. The band actually seems to be making a mockery of this polished image the record people were all so wanting them to pursue

  • Mockery is right. I always LOVED the part where Paul tried to walk across the drum kit. This was the era wherein Paul was taking a LOT of pills and alcohol. It's evident that he didn't show up to the video shoot sober. Nor did the Mats take the MTV era with anything less than utter disdain. It was really refreshing to see them do this to a video that year. If the Bastards of Young video didn't get it across, then this video is a high profile middle finger in the face for MTV.

  • Bah, I happen to like some of the goop that was slopped onto 80's records, especially Replacements records. Give me All Shook Down or Don't Tell A Soul over The Replacements Stink any day of the week.

  • i think "don't tell a soul" is a great album, not a true Replacements album, but still a great experience to listen to. Just got it on vinyl : )

  • wow, this sucks. What the hell happened?

  • i...fucking....love....them.

  • I couldn't agree more. Granted, this isn't my favorite era of the Mats, but for what they were doing at this time I think the sound is great!

  • Paul Westerberg is one of the sexiest men to ever walk the earth.

  • i applied to work at a receord store 4xs never got job.. 2 days after the manager saw me at paul westerberg concert... i got the job... ha id of been mad but i know id of done the same thing

  • haha thats funny... i would do anything to see westerberg live!

  • Underrated Minneapolis guitar band from the 80s. This song was on their "Don't Tell A Soul" album, and while it wasn't exactly a hit it still gets played occasionally on album-oriented rock stations. Thanks for posting this.

  • One of my favorite 'Mats songs. Love it.

  • Saw the 'Mats a few times. Most notably a show at the Orpheum in Boston. They were so drunk it was perfectly chaotic. The crowd is getting a little unruly and Westerberg says, "Wow, just like The fuckin' Sex Pistols, huh?" Slim was brand new to the band, then. Paul W is one of the greatest American songwriters, and the Mats were soooo underated!

  • yeah I agree that this band is really underrated

  • Thanx for posting this...Still one of my favorite band. I saw them in 1991 and saw Westerberg on a solo tour with his back up band, just a couple of years ago, it was excellent.

  • che voce! cazzo, che voce! puri brividi anni 80!

    grandissimi replacements, solo per intenditori!

  • Possibly the most underated band around. This album "don't tell a soul" purely amazing. Pauls' a genius. :) xoxo

  • ahh marine corps daze and memories at mcas el toro where the f/18 rule the skies

  • Hoorah! Obviously you didn't get it.

  • This song brings back memories. Freshman year in college! In a few years, it would be all over for this once promising band.

  • I them perform live on three separate occasions. Man they were great!

  • Lol, is Tommy wearing lipstick?

Love The 'Mats, such a great band. I really wish I could have been old enough to see them. It saddens me that we don't have great music like this anymore. :(

  • Such a great band..saw the Replacements open up for Keith Richards at the Beacon Theatre in 1988...without a doudt, the best concert I have ever seen...

  • CanaDUH

  • Paul is the last living rock and roll god. I am proud to own all of his music. Some of it sucks, but I listen to it anyway.

  • Guy_Incognito is a fag

  • making the 80's listenable - paul had brains and the music had brawn

  • Their best shot as kissing corporate ass. Bowties, jumpsuits and lyrics Tom Petty could steal.

  • Greatest band of the 80's.I remember driving down A1A in Ft. lauderdale Blasting Pleased to meet me and people stopping me to ask what I was listening to

  • this song makes me restless and anxious every. single. time i hear it ....aahhhhfukidunno....

  • Me too...It reminds me of the anxiety when i left high school and started college, and the girl i liked, that didnt know i existed

  • Wow, this was the shit when I was in college. The Replacements were the ones who put Seattle on the map to me.

  • Seattle, huh? Too bad they're from Minneapolis. Google it.

  • I didnt say I was a geography student by any means. I just always had the opinion that they had to be one of the biggest influences on the Seattle bands.

Hell, I do not even remember most of college anyway. Thanks for correcting me.

  • Well you are correct, the replacements did have a big influence on the Seattle music scene since they were one of the first alternative rock/punk rock bands.

  • The good old days.

    The Replacements, The Pixies, REM.

God I miss that time... :)

  • yeah, i agree

  • Man, In the daze this song came ouyt I was a heavy metal drummer but still wrote lyrics that weren't so hard. Hence, the reason I appreciate and love this song. This is just an awesome song. I love it!

  • i love this song with all 5 guitars!

  • who the hell is surfer joe?

  • classic

  • Now this is rock and roll! God bless you boys, wherever you are!

  • "Eddie Van Halen" Scary!

  • Nice song ,thanks for sharing.Peace and love...

  • Tommy looks like Daniel Ash of Love and Rockets. Wonder if he makes a money being the bassist for Guns & Roses since the album still hasn't come out. What a drag for him.

  • I'm sure Axl plays him very well for his duties! I can't wait for Chinese Democracy honestly. But I would rather see a Paul/Tommy tour. That would be amazing. Tommy was playing with Soul Asylum who currently has the same drummer that Paul had on his last tour. It should happen already!

  • This was thier only hit...If You're game for anaglogies, this was to them as "Cut Your Hair" was to Pavement...Petty stole the Rebel line, I bet Paul was honored that he'd reached the point where his idols were borrowing and paying tribute to him.

  • minneapolis had a good music scene in the 80's.

  • i was from canada....

  • fucking stinson in his bow tie. gotta love it.

  • The Replacements may have been ahead of their time. look at the bands they influenced nirvana etc. the 80's just sucked for music. everything was hair metal or over-blown bruce springsteen (even though bruce is great) i think the 90's were bands that were influenced by the replacements and husker du.

  • This song ripped my face off when I first heard it on the radio. I can remember exactly where I was: I-94, off the Cretin-Vandalia exit in St. Paul.

Petty should never be forgiven for ripping off the "rebel without a clue" line. Paul tosses of gems in his verses that make other's choruses. Brevity truly is the essence of wit.

Crossing the Mexican border in 1988, the DJ from 91X in San Diego said, "Here's the best band in America," and played the 'Mats.

    So cool.

  • yeah your right...he rip it and put it into "into the great wide open"

  • If The Replacements had been better musicians, they'd be up there with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

  • i think if radio & the music industry was more about rock'n'roll & less about SOME ONE"S IDEA OF MONEY MAKING< the 'Mats would have been still making lp's now. Same with the Ramones, the Clash, or the NY Dolls. Hey, the 'Mat's were as least as good as the Faces, Ian McLagan notwithstanding. & Ronnie Lane. Ah, screw the Stones, they've sucked longer than they were good! And if you can't acknowledge that, go fart in an airlock! The Stones,HA! The very idea....

  • I think the "failure" of The Replacements had nothing to do with their own shortcomings and everything to do with them being too talented in an era obsessed with style/image over substance (much like today).

If the masses had any artistic sensibility or taste, The Replacements would be up there and with the Beatles and the Stones, and Jane's Addiction would be up there with Led Zeppelin.

  • The Replacements were out of step with the mainstream. But they also caused their own self destruction. When they wanted to play they were unbelievable! When they didn't it was a train wreck. I saw them in 1991 at Toad's in New Haven and they were incredible. One of their best shows.

One thing they did do was open the door for alternative rock in the 90's.

  • If the 'Mats were better musicians they would lose part of their appeal. The thing I like about them is the raw-ness of their sound. It's the same with the Ramones, the Dolls, you don't have to play every note perfectly to make good music.

  • Your right, but the difference between the Mats and the bands that you mentioned is the fact that the Mats could actually play. They just didn't really care that they could. That is where the genius within the Mats lied.

  • Totally.

  • Bob was usually too drunk to play all of the notes. lol.

  • That's true. I heard they also got into fist fights on stage with each other.

  • The perfect song.

  • well I laughed, half the way to Tokyo, dreamed I was super joe and what that means I don't know

  • Always thought he said "surfer joe"

  • I knew I should have looked that up on the internet. Ah, hell, surfer in your world, super in mine, it's too late now to change it.

  • I agree with wysiwyg248.

  • love this song.

  • does anyone of u know what is the name of song in this movie when he missed the date with girl??

    riddle

  • If you don't own "Tim" by the Mats- I implore you to pick it up !

    The Mats are fantastic !

  • Los Amos del Punk-Rock!

    Knock your door down!!!!

  • this is a perfect song.. .not a bad thing about it!

  • can't help but sing along to it :)

  • Pure genius...1989 from the "Don't Tell A Soul" collection...too bad they called it a day all too soon.

"You be me for a while and I'll be you"..but then again I'm just a "World Class Fad".

    Happy Holidays.

  • WHAT YR WAS THIS SONG

  • SOMEONE GET ALEX CHILTON MUSIC VID

  • want this played at my funeral party, wtf!

  • my favourite Replacements song.

  • ONE OF THEIR BEST SONGS LOVE IT

  • finally they put the video for this. Thanks catsass

  • Great band..Very underrated. They were what a rock and roll band should be.

  • Together with the Cult are probably the best two pure Rock and Roll bands that never got proper recognizition.

  • amazing band. First heard them 2 years ago and I was left speechless and up to this day still am.

    :)

  • 3:10 = The ensuing of hilarity!

  • sounds alot like Bryan Adams.

  • good call

  • maybe to ears that didnt hear all this when it was new. yes i'm older than dirt.

  • I'm glad that you like it!

  • The best

  • That's you bashing the shit out of the drums on Knockin on Mine and Can't Hardly Wait on SNL right? Great versions of those songs.

  • Thank you ever so. The Replacements deserved more than they got in the U.S. Simply one of the greats that got overlooked by the masses.

Long live the mighty Mats in all their ruined glory.
