Fuck this life, fuck this world. It takes everything good away from me! I do own this record on vinyl, not to brag, but I'm just lazy and wanted to hear it here goddamn song here. My little dumb drunken self shall find another mats video to watch haha.
what kills me about these take down notices is that how does the record companies and bands expect to sell music if people can't even hear what they are buying? Theres no fucking way I'm spending 14+ dollars on a piece of plastic without knowing if its good or not.
totally agree, they're too stupid to realize what we're doing is marketing their product for free. Disabling embedding drives me absolutely nuts too. Heaven forbid I try to introduce a few hundred people on facebook to a great band.
Cat's Ass; why don't you just take the video off? Isn't it obvious by the comments people hate this video and the accompanying mucus? This is part of the reason I'm never buying...no, never paying for another CD.
Wow that's really rude and dumb, why disgrace a great band like this,I hate it when people remove good songs on youtube.Geez I hope paul Westeberg doesn't get angry at you guys.
Hey, how do I stop the annoying disco crap (a.k.a. "Dust: Adrian Alberti Mix") that Visa is trying to get me to buy to stop playing over this video? Screw you, Visa!
I kinda like the video. They're being half-assed and goofy, switching instruments and completely screwing up the lip-syncing. There isn't a hint of a band taking themselves too seriously which means a lot coming from that era.
great song, yes. great band. love these guys, but this is a pretty lame video, especially by Replacements standards. Shows the brilliance of their non-video-videos. it has a couple moments but I can't believe they made suck a lame video!
would have have to agree with you but at this point in their career their management was looking for a more "radio friendly" sound and MTV appeal-hence the "Flash and Glitter" image. The band actually seems to be making a mockery of this polished image the record people were all so wanting them to pursue
Mockery is right. I always LOVED the part where Paul tried to walk across the drum kit. This was the era wherein Paul was taking a LOT of pills and alcohol. It's evident that he didn't show up to the video shoot sober. Nor did the Mats take the MTV era with anything less than utter disdain. It was really refreshing to see them do this to a video that year. If the Bastards of Young video didn't get it across, then this video is a high profile middle finger in the face for MTV.
Bah, I happen to like some of the goop that was slopped onto 80's records, especially Replacements records. Give me All Shook Down or Don't Tell A Soul over The Replacements Stink any day of the week.

Skinny, Thanks for pulling that out of the the "Tell Me Something the Whole World Doesn't Know" file, Cyberspace now contains 188 more useless characters.
Underrated Minneapolis guitar band from the 80s. This song was on their "Don't Tell A Soul" album, and while it wasn't exactly a hit it still gets played occasionally on album-oriented rock stations. Thanks for posting this.
Saw the 'Mats a few times. Most notably a show at the Orpheum in Boston. They were so drunk it was perfectly chaotic. The crowd is getting a little unruly and Westerberg says, "Wow, just like The fuckin' Sex Pistols, huh?" Slim was brand new to the band, then. Paul W is one of the greatest American songwriters, and the Mats were soooo underated!
Thanx for posting this...Still one of my favorite band. I saw them in 1991 and saw Westerberg on a solo tour with his back up band, just a couple of years ago, it was excellent.
Love The 'Mats, such a great band. I really wish I could have been old enough to see them. It saddens me that we don't have great music like this anymore. :(
Such a great band..saw the Replacements open up for Keith Richards at the Beacon Theatre in 1988...without a doudt, the best concert I have ever seen...
Greatest band of the 80's.I remember driving down A1A in Ft. lauderdale Blasting Pleased to meet me and people stopping me to ask what I was listening to
I didnt say I was a geography student by any means. I just always had the opinion that they had to be one of the biggest influences on the Seattle bands.
Hell, I do not even remember most of college anyway. Thanks for correcting me.
Well you are correct, the replacements did have a big influence on the Seattle music scene since they were one of the first alternative rock/punk rock bands.
Man, In the daze this song came ouyt I was a heavy metal drummer but still wrote lyrics that weren't so hard. Hence, the reason I appreciate and love this song. This is just an awesome song. I love it!
Tommy looks like Daniel Ash of Love and Rockets. Wonder if he makes a money being the bassist for Guns & Roses since the album still hasn't come out. What a drag for him.
I'm sure Axl plays him very well for his duties! I can't wait for Chinese Democracy honestly. But I would rather see a Paul/Tommy tour. That would be amazing. Tommy was playing with Soul Asylum who currently has the same drummer that Paul had on his last tour. It should happen already!
This was thier only hit...If You're game for anaglogies, this was to them as "Cut Your Hair" was to Pavement...Petty stole the Rebel line, I bet Paul was honored that he'd reached the point where his idols were borrowing and paying tribute to him.
The Replacements may have been ahead of their time. look at the bands they influenced nirvana etc. the 80's just sucked for music. everything was hair metal or over-blown bruce springsteen (even though bruce is great) i think the 90's were bands that were influenced by the replacements and husker du.
This song ripped my face off when I first heard it on the radio. I can remember exactly where I was: I-94, off the Cretin-Vandalia exit in St. Paul.
Petty should never be forgiven for ripping off the "rebel without a clue" line. Paul tosses of gems in his verses that make other's choruses. Brevity truly is the essence of wit.
Crossing the Mexican border in 1988, the DJ from 91X in San Diego said, "Here's the best band in America," and played the 'Mats.
i think if radio & the music industry was more about rock'n'roll & less about SOME ONE"S IDEA OF MONEY MAKING< the 'Mats would have been still making lp's now. Yeah, I read that Paul was pretty brutal towards Chris (the drummer) during that time.
Some of it had to do with Chris playing behind the beat and not on it. Mostly it probably had to do with them just being sick of each other.
