I use a shift click, to have a quick look in a new window when I am commenting on others comments, to know them a bit better first by looking at other stuff they said.

But generally I don't accept friend requests from ppl who are network marketers, as I like to try and keep things genuine feeling. Avoiding AMWAY clones.

I don't like advertising plugs from businesses or sales reps. But I will look at what a friend recommends. It's tricky, because in this day and age more and more of us might have something to promote which would be beneficial. The polite way, on FB and YT, because there is a link back to your page, is to promote it there, and meanwhile post comments which are enlightening or interesting so ppl might be tempted to say, that sounded good, I will check out this persons page.

I totally agree with the whole facebook 'advertising' thing - I don't want to get directly to the point, but it's almost like people are like.. Wow a lot of people like Megan or Jewelchic so I will plant my company on her page to get some credit...Some people have good intentions I think - but I'm sure others have no interest in your page and just want to 'use' you, if I may!
