If they wanted to they could have rolled the Ryan Atwood character from the OC into who Ben plays in southland. Hes a cop who came from a money family in LA, and is frequently asked why he became a cop and called "richy rich" by John Cooper. It might have made for an interesting backstory, not that the current stories arnt interesting. NBC wishes they still had southland....ever since seinfeld and friends went off the air they have struggled to find a hit. They pull the cord on shows too early

And I like how it focuses on uniform street cops and not all about detectives like everything else. I applaud the creators for making the show as realistic as possible, showing the various legal and cultural obstacles that stand in the way of a clean wrap up that we see so often on fictitious show such as CSI and Law and Order.

Well the ratings really started dropping so they canceled it. In the first season they had about 10 million an episode and by the end they were at like 3 or 4. Plus Mischa Barton's character was killed off because she supposedly didn't want to be in the show anymore.

What's funny is that in the first episode of Southland, Ben's character arrests the kid who played Oliver on the O.C. He was the kid with the yellow sports car. Revenge at last! lol
