I was put on birth control when I was 14 due to PSOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) which causes extremely painful cramps (i.e. cannot walk, work, etc.), and to stop servely heavy periods (to aid me in reversing the chronic anemia it caused). Viagra treats a medical condition. People don't choose to have E.D. - why would people choose to pay for medicine they don't need? Erectile dysfunction is considered a bodily disorder - although one may argue that it is a part of natural aging and degeneration.
However, birth control by and large is not used to treat bodily disorders - but rather to disrupt an otherwise harmonious system. If, the pill is used primarily for the therapeutic effect of easing immense menstrual cramps which can not be otherwise treated - then it seems reasonable that insurance covers it. Otherwise, it is not directly bound to bodily health.

Read my the second half of my statement. If the intended therapeutic effects are meant to treat a disorder then birth control ought to be covered by health insurance. However, for most, it is used primarily as a contraceptive. Fertility is not a disorder. Erectile dysfunction is a disorder.

Actually, birth control pills DO help a "medical condition". When the human body goes from a non-pregnant state to a pregnant one, many medical changes take place. Blood pressure is effected, a lot of gestational diabetes occurs, blood clots after -the -fact are a concern. A pill to give a woman the choice of accepting or avoiding these complications in her life should be WAY ahead of a lot of other concerns. But all Billo sees is a drug-induced boner. Pity!

I was put on birth control when I was 14 due to PSOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) which causes extremely painful cramps (i.e. cannot walk, work, etc.), and to stop servely heavy periods (to aid me in reversing the chronic anemia it caused). There are myriad reasons why BC is needed. There is a gross misunderstanding of female reproduction. Bill should really, really read something before he shoots his mouth off.

Sorry, but birth has been used in medical circumstances. For example, some girls have dangerously irregular Menstrual cycles which can lead to infertility later on in life. Birth Control can help regulate the cycle. Much like Viagra can be used for medical reasons, so too, can Birth Control. But what does Bill care. That means free or low cost birth control being made available to every woman of reproductive age (and to men when a male birth control pill is created).And besides,from a tax payer viewpoint,paying for years of birth control is much less expensive than paying for one birth.

Amen. O'Reilly is wrong also because for some women, birth control is a health issue if pregnancy is dangerous for them. Wouldn't O'Reilly be interested in saving a woman from dying as much as he is helping men get their erections?

These steroids are a group 1 carcinogen, right up there with asbestos and tobacco.
Notice the very crafty use of words to avoid the fact that these pills work AFTER conception and expel an embryo and thus starve him or her.
These are abortion pills that kill unborn children and destroy a woman's body.

These aren't the same things. Prescription drugs are the only proven ways to treat ED; there are numerous ways to prevent pregnancy without BC (condoms for one) that one can obtain OTC. I don't agree that BC shouldn't be covered; I definitely believe it should be. But trying to make a 1-to-1 comparison between viagra and BC just doesn't work; they treat two totally different things with different alternatives available. Denouncing one to benefit the other doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Sorry.
