@SPMNDK89 they have to, in order to replicate a real crash situation as much as possible. removing the engine would lighten the car considerably and would therefore not have the same mass as a car with an engine. besides, a safety design feature of any benz is that the engine and the chassis are used to absorb the energy of the impact.

Well anyway, here in AMERICA, it doesnt matter if they tested their own car 200,000 times. The results and who decides what score it gets is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. If IIHS says a Audi A6 is safer or scored higher in a crash test than this mercedes then that is what goes. Gov't tests matter in the real world, not manufacturer tests.
