  • Michael is still the best Phantom, but LORD!!! Gerard is WALKING SEX!!

I saw it on Broadway, 4th row, center stage and ducked when the chandelier dropped.

  • *sigh* I'd say it's safe to say that we can all agree that "The Phantom Of The Opera" is an amazing story/musical... and calling someone deaf because they preferred someone else's voice to another for whatever reason is just juvenile. Way to shit on other people's preferences.

  • this is the origanl sound trscked i lisin to it like every day and im 12

  • I have the original soundtrack & while I respect that Brightman and Crawford as the originals, Brightmans voice is too much for me & Crawford just doesn't come off as strong enough. I do love Butler because his voice isn't perfect & it is raw. But I don't just prefer the movie. I saw the musical just last night for the 5th time. That Christine was an excellent one. Beautiful voice without being over the top & so was the Phantom. My favorite Phantom left the show a couple of years ago.

  • @csolo5 sad im dying to see the play is it awesome

  • @csolo5 Who was your favourite Phantom? And when did you see the show? London, New York, Las Vegas? Just curious :)

  • @jazzownik My favorite Phantom is John Cudia. Saw him twice in Los Angles CA and was blown away by his performance. That was two years ago and still can't forget him as Eric. Missed him in NY. Check him out.

  • @starseeker100 The above is me.

  • @starseeker100 I know him. Unfortunately only from youtube clips. Would love to see him perform. I like his voice a lot! It's quite similar to John Owen-Jonse's, who is my favourite Phantom. Cheers!

  • OK, I heard that Gerard Butler didn't actually do the singing of the Phantom. I'm pretty sure that on the DVD special features it said that they dubbed him. The dubbed vocalist's voice was really REALLY similar to Gerard's, but Gerard's voice was "too warm" or something like that...

  • @crazysquirrel7 no its realy him i just saw somthing that even prves it the cast of the phantom of the pera on the view

  • Nice. A beautiful song to listen to while gazing at (to me) the hottest man on earth.

  • Michael Crawford is the best Phantom ever. And Emmy is best Christine ever!

  • he's too hot

  • @77phipps team Ramin for sure

  • team Ramin lol

  • How about Paul Stanley? I liked him as the Phantom.

  • @cbanks1616 Well played. I would have to agree to disagree, respectfully.

  • Michael Crawford is the original Phantom and some people might like the old Phantom just the way it is, but I didn't really care much for Sarah Brightman or Michael Crawford. I respect that he's the original but I much prefer the Gerard and Emmy version. Emmy gives Christine the right amount of innocence and her voice doesn't have too much, should I say, fluff and frill? And I love Gerard's voice. For being untrained, it's very good. His raw voice fits the Phantom's raw emotions. I love it.

  • @cbanks1616 I couldn't disagree with you more. Christine was supposed to be will trained in opera singing by the Phantom. Brightman had opera training, Emmy did not. I don't how you could remotely prefer Gerard over Crawford. Many actions have given great performances as the Phantom, but Crawford IS the Phantom. Not sure how one could listen to the audio on this youtube vid and still prefer Gerard and Emmy over Crawford and Brightman.

  • I remember "Music of The Night" performed on the Tony Awards as a kid. That was my first exposure to this wonderful musical. It saddens me to see the movie devolve into an overstuffed glam piece without any lead performer worthy of the stage.

  • @TickleMaTurkey Sorry, but Crawford is not dreadful.

  • @Ballbuster1969 You are absolutey right he isn't dreadful he is absolutely shite! "The Daaaaaaarrrrrkknessss of the Maaaaayooooooosaiiirk ov the Naaaaaarrrrrgghttttt!

  • I just don't understand why musical ability has to be sacrificed for "sex appeal". Gerard Butler is a good actor. He was the Man in 300. But you have to put a voice behind the Phantom, not a face.

  • @Ballbuster1969 THANK YOU! If only Joel Shumacher understood that!

  • @Ballbuster1969 Well if thats the case how come Michael Crawford got the part .... he's dreadful. "The Daaaaaaarrrrrkknessss of the Maaaaayooooooosaiiirk ovv thu Naaaaaarrrrrgghttttt!

  • @Ballbuster1969 A thousand thumbs up! Sad indeed.

  • If I was to replace M.Crawford as the phantom,God Almighty I would have chosen Gerard Butler. He is yummy and has sex appeal. He has a powerful appearance just like Crawford did.

  • i LOVE gerard butler! his voice is great and he makes the phantom soooooo sexy and thats why he works in phantom. other phantoms pale in comparison to gerards presence and now i cant stand to watch phantom unless gerard is the phantom. im a bit scared to see love never dies cos gerard isnt in it. he will always be my favourite phantom......sigh....

  • @shazz4jazz I agree with you......Some people says that the phantom should be ugly..scary old man who is really frightening as shown in the past decades.......For me time change.....Musical stage performances are very different to movies.....I understand why the make up artist and the director didnt exagerated ugliness to the face of the phantom in the movie.....It's for the beauty of cinematic effect and recognised the actor who portrayed the role and also give credits to his acting ability ..

  • @shazz4jazz Besides I prefer GERARD BUTLER than Michael Crawford as the phantom in the movie coz he's younger......with very good body built and I dont need to argue with the fans of traditional phantom......Anyway why should other people insist that the phantom of the opera should be old and ugly and scary where in fact the whole story of the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in stage and in the movie is purely FICTION?....

  • @crystalpristine You do realize that the musical (as well as the movie) is based on a book? And in that book the Phantom was around his 50s? It is fiction, but within some frames.

  • @jazzownik Framed or not.....A fiction is still a fiction....it can be polish and it can be changable anytime.......

  • @crystalpristine But if you change a middle-aged, horribly deformed virgin into a young, sexy, not-so-deformed Gerald Butler, then why call him Erik? Is the Phantom still the Phantom then? It changes the core of the story. No wonder phan-girls can't understand why Christine picked Raoul over the oh-so-sexy Phantom. It's his soul that's supposed to be attractive. Not his face. That's the point.

  • @shazz4jazzMaybe the singing of GERARD BUTLER is not excellent for critics but for me it's just good enough and less scary......besides........even he's just talking without singing I considered it music in my ears......

  • WAIT!!!! THAT'S NOT EMMY OR GERRY!!!! NOOO!!!!!! why am i even on here? this is supposed to be Butler!!! not CRAWFORD!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Crawford is the only version I will recall when someone brings up Phantom to me. Gerard Butler, while a decent actor, is as adept to singing as Pierce Brosnon in Mama Mia! In short, hearing Gerard Butler "do" Phantom is the equivalent of me stuffing my ears with dirty needles.

  • @Ballbuster1969 LOL Agreed!

  • @Ballbuster1969 Yeah its the same for me. Its like one of those really bad nightmares you have at three years old that you never forget for the rest of your life. Justa hint of it brings the horror back

  • @Ballbuster1969 Ramin for me.

  • He's versatile.....oozing with sex appeal....I believe he's the right person as Phantom....

  • @crystalpristine As anyone would know watching the original phantom of the opera its not meant to be about the phantom having 'sex appeal'! Theres are far darker edge and that is supposed to overshadow everything. He's to be feared not loved.

  • @zfiles4me I'm talking about GERARD BUTLER himself alone as an actor and a good singer with a powerful voice aside from his SEX APPEAL....not his role as the Phantom.

  • @crystalpristine Your comment doesn't make the distinction at all. You believe he's the right person as the phantom due to his versatility and sex appeal, thats what you said if I'm not correct? I'm pointing out that the part of phantom doesn't need or require sex appeal. If you listen to other singers doing the part of the phantom apart from Michael Crawford you will be able to realise that his voice really isn't that that powerful. It is very weak in comparison. Good singer, nope.

  • @zfiles4me For me both GERARD and MICHAEL including the whole cast of the movie is great.....they did justice to their parts.......it's not important who's weak or not.....What is important is they did their best and the majority of the audience enjoyed their music as well as their acting abilities......PHANTOM OF THE OPERA {the movie} is one of my favorite.......

  • I don't think his problem with his career had anything to do with POTO but his weight gain. He had been in singing groups in Scotland. He did know how to sing. His style was rougher and that was what Webber wanted for the movie. That was how it was suppose to be but he never cast it that way prior. I personally don't like the original male but I do like the guy from India. I prefer Emmy Rossum because she has the younger clear, crystal sounding voice the others do not have, Sarah next.

  • why is Sarah Brightham singing in the back of the video about Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler

  • To those who like Gerard Butler's voice......are you all deaf? The man cannot sing for toffee! He ruined the movie version! Michael is a far better singer!

  • @zfiles4me They are as deaf as the ones who think Michael Crawford is a great singer ..... not!

  • @TickleMaTurkey Michael is a great singer and is expressive. Probably the best one. He could carry it off.

  • @zfiles4me Is he balls, How many musical events other than POTO has he been invited to? How many singers have invited him to join them? answer = 0 why? because he's rubbish and they know it but cant say it. Michael Crawford is a semitone lower than tiny tim but he does sing the right notes ..... unfortunately not in the right order!

  • @TickleMaTurkey I don't hear any off notes in this version and other versions. If Im not mistaken they don't use autotune for this version, which I bet they did for Butler. If Michael is crap how come he was able to perform this part on stage for years before any of the others came along?

  • @zfiles4me That is a big question ... and knowing the facts that question is even bigger than the "Whats it all about" one that has puzzled humanity since time began.

  • @zfiles4me I agree 100%, Butler is a looker but his voice SUCKED, I was so disappointed.

  • @mazz529 The part is not about the phantom being a good looker, its about him being rejected from youth since he was deformed and taking out this anger on everyone! It's ruining the whole plot! It's supposed to be about the music and singing as it's a MUSICAL!

  • @zfiles4me You misunderstand my comment. When I say he is a "looker" I mean that he is a handsome man and nice to "look" at. That said, his voice is horrible and he should not of been picked to play the phantom based on his good looks, as his voice was horrible. It has nothing to do with the plot.

  • @mazz529 I wish I could "like" this comment 1000 X

  • PURE SEX!!

  • Gerard Butler is a wet dream as the Phantom. Plus, his voice is just fuller and resonates better than any previous phantom (imo). Raoul who? :)

  • Gerad Butler is smokin' hot. i'd pick the phantom of Raoul ANYDAY.

  • Why would you do this? Show all these beautiful pictures of Gerry, and use Crawford's voice. You just don't get it....you can be a Michael Crawford fan fine, but the Movie POTO, was Gerard's. It was what Webber wanted for the movie, a younger and rougher Phantom.... it wasn't meant to be like the stage version... Too bad stage fans and critics sabotoged this beautiful movie. Shame on you....

  • Wow. It is an abomination to associate these four. The spirit of The Man belongs to Michael and Christine in this musical is literally Sarah. I don't blame Gerry though. He was only doing what he was told by a god awful director. It's not his fault he can't sing and that they did a horrible job on the deformity. They sexed this movie up so much that it lost it's meaning.

  • gerard butler has an awesome voice y they r using the crock pots voice when it should be gerards voice is shocking

  • 0:52

    Christine: INSIIIIDE MY MIND...

Gerard: -STARING INTO HER MIND SOMEHOW-

  • im glad to see somone isn't anti gerard butler. seriously i don't understand what is so wrong with him and why every one is so against him. ok so his singing isn't great and he was more of a fashion statement then a phantom but seriously what is soooo bad that every one has to be all "eh he so bad, hes so shit, hes so everything we hate" and the same gose for director of the film. ok so he made one bad movie in his time. steven spielberg has made more then one but he doesn't get hated so badly

  • @canelongno1

Neither do I, even though I myself have a slightly different opinion. I thought for musicals not being his thing, he was actually okay at singing and 'course he looked REALLY cute. <3 I know Erik isn't supposed to look cute, but hey. I'm not complaining. lol xD

  • @CosplayCore THANK YOU!!!

  • @canelongno1 Let me try to 'splain it to you:The legions of fans who waited 20 years to see POTO brought to the screen were disappointed and downright appalled at Butler's casting, as were the vast majority of critics. This was not the time/place to experiment with a different style, whether you like it or not.The stage versions still produced around the world are true to the original proving it's survived the test of time, further validated by the 25 anniversary show; Butler was not included.

  • @audiesgirl ok i get you saying the style was somewhat different from the stage version and if people like the stage version fine. but you still didn't answer what is so wrong about butler as i said his singing isn't great and the costume and make up wasn't wat was expected but that wasn't his fault. he isn't a trained singer and if you didn't like the costume and makeup blame the costume designer and makeup artist not him!

  • @canelongno1 No, Butler isn't responsible for his mis-casting; from what I've heard, he's come to regret taking the part.. Unless Butler's an automaton like the one in POTO, he should have known better or was it just too much for his vanity? His career never recovered which is the price actors pay for headlining such a colossal disaster. It might now matter so much if there were a decent video of the original production; that anniversary show was a spectacle, not the real deal.

  • Nice!

  • The wilderness in Michael's voice cannot be surpassed; that's the problem with Gerard.

  • @WZYrover whoa there. u saying that theres something WRONG w/ GERRY?!?!?!!??!? There is NOTHING wrong w/ him!!!!! he actually gives the rock n' rolish voice that Adrew Lloyd Webber was LOOKING for!!! NOT MICHAEL!!!! sorry. just realized what i just typed.. i'll probably get a lot of hates for this... don't mean to offend any one. btw gerry has SO got SO MUCH wilderness in his voice!!!!

  • @TigersUnleashed Cool down :) I didn't mean any disrespect for Gerard, he is a fine singer, but for this particular song his voice is too restrained and calculated to be genuinely "wild". To each his own:)

  • despite the title, that's not Gerard Butler or Emmy Rossum singing.

  • Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman > Rest.

  • @appleisonfire I would like this because I agree they are INFINITELY better than Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. However, I do love Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess, because they are MY Phantom and Christine, they're the first ones I saw so they are kind of special, but I COMPLETELY understand why you'd think that because they were so incredible! But apart from that I think you're sooooo right, I'm sorry to disagree, I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I don't want to offend anyone x

  • @AmyYeo1997 I like Ramin Karimloo and and Sierra Boggess as well. I had Ramin as Phantom in Love Never Dies, I have one word to describe it: Legendary! I didn't really like Gerard Butler in The Phantom, he did well, but I don't prefer him as a singer. I do agree with you though! (:

  • Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman are scary looking people 0__0

  • Gerard Butler!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Why was the movie a box office flop? The biggest reason: Gerard Butler. Wrong decision which Lloyd Webber regrets to this day.

  • @thephantom1946 Gerard was amazing!!!

  • i feel like its the younger crowd saying they like gerard and the more experienced crowd saying michael...for me, its michael all the way hands down. he created the first phantom...which by the way..isn't supposed to be "hott" the movie got that part totally wrong.

  • i liked Sarah better then Emma but Gerard waaaaaaay better then Michael. first and formost Butler is way hotter :)

  • Good job using the recording with Michael Crawford for a Gerard Butler tribute..

  • He's not "the new" phantom, he's just one OF many phantoms. He did a great job, but so do actors currently working on broadway. This was back in 2004, mind you.

  • @Amathos I agree. I really do love Michael! He's soooo amazing! Im just a total Ramin fangirl though XD. Michael Crawford, Ramin Karimloo, John Owen Jones, John Cudia, and Hugh Panaro are the best in my mind! :D

  • i think its kinda ironic how its a video about gerard but the song is being sung my michael crawford and not him hahaha

  • OMG this sounds AWFUL... just dredful

  • 0:14

  • 14 what is he doing ?

  • holy fuck- who would know?!

  • Despite the title, the voice in the video is Michael Crawford's. I saw him on Broadway and Michael Crawford was unforgettable. He made the soundtrack.

  • Michael Crawford will always be the only REAL Phantom! He was perfect for the role. No one will ever be as good. Gerard Butler's voice is not as strong as Michael's. I saw the original on Broadway with MC and SB. I would like to see it again but I would be devastated if I had to sit through a bad Phantom or Kristine. Maybe I would have to hit the bar during break. LOL!

  • Dont forget him as a sexy as hell Vampire in Dracula 2000 as well!!!!

  • can i know the films please??

  • god help me!!!!!!

  • this is sparta! but phanton kicks better! i love you geraldddddddd te adoro chico!!

  • what movie is at 0:16?

  • THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • This is so cheesy. But I love it. :)

  • I have a teacher that looks just like him< 3

  • @McKenaMars you're fuckin ' lucky i wish i had that too

  • @McKenaMars where do you go to school? :))))

  • Ok, personally, I like Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler's voices so much better than Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman's... Plus Gerard is SMOKING hot....

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701

    John Owen Jones.

    That is all.

  • @DrStrangefate ive just been to see the london show,i have to say john owne jones makes a very good phantom ,i read in the programme i bought ,hes actually played the phantom more times than any one else,=), sofia escobar was quite good too x

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 Ok, number 1: No. Just no. And number 2: Have you seen or heard Ramin Karimloo? I'm sorry, not trying to be mean, but I just don't think heavenly auto tuned voices are better than pure, magnifecent, beautiful ones. :)

  • @jelliclekat24 oh wow! That Ramin has an awesome voice. Gerard has a nice voice, but for phantom purposes I still like the way Michale does it. It is so eloquent. Ramin starts high pitched. I don't like that. I like how Michael kept it almost romantic/conversational/intimate.

Gerard is a bit planar? I dunno how to describe it, he has the notes, but, bit subdued

Ramin, is powerful, but more of a sensationalism style, which is okay I suppose, but for the play scenario, it feels off.

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 for 1, Butler can't sing, and 2: the phantom isn't supposed to be "hot". I mean, he IS disfigured after all.

  • @Steroid0Strad in fairness Gerard has got a rocker type voice which I think suits the Phantom.. But I know that the Phantom is meant to have an amazing voice.. But loads of things were changed to suit the film.... And wats the harm in having a hot Phantom anyway???

  • @Steroid0Strad --says you...and you know what they say about opinions and assholes..

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 Ramin Karimloo's hotter. Plus, you only like gerard butler because he's singing like a pop star. Seriously, he sounds like a dying cow.

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 BLASPHEMY!

  • @hipnhappenin Some people don't understand that the Phantom isn't sexy. He is an abomination. Karimloo lives in that tradition.

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 This song comparative with the song singing by Nightwish is 0 :). I think is so borig :))

  • @JuliaTrekkie1701 I knew you must have gotten sprung from a mental institution before you posted this comment. There is a difference between Crawford's and Butler's

Phantoms is the difference between Filet Mignon and Alpo (before they removed the ash from dog food).

  • omg gerard is sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!!!1

  • lmbo. This is funny.

  • The only thing that would have made it better would be to use Gerard's version of Phantom. Other than that nice. He's a looker.

  • Buenissssimo, una pena su bisex.. Eso dicen, pero bueno tiene para todos, buen actor, con humor y hermoso, se puede pedir mas..

  • Bello il video! Gerry in ogni fotogramma Splendido!

Vielen, vielen Dank!!!!!!!

  • that was well done

  • bellooooooooooooooo
