  • whats that other horn in the backround?

  • @Railfan108 seems to be a Leslie RS3L

  • Nice Celebrity (the car) at 0:22. Is it yours?

  • No it was just some random parked car.

  • Oh. Btw, great video!!

  • Thanks dude!

  • Your welcome. Thats quite a bank at that station.

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks!

  • Ive been to this station ,but never seen this train

  • cool. I never been to this station before so it was a treat for me.

  • Wait, so that line gets used once a day?

  • no, several times.

  • ok thanks, i thought you meant once a day

  • I see what made you think it was once a day and I changed it.

  • i thought they changed ends in hackettstown??

    i guess i was wrong

  • I thought they did too, but they don't go all the way on weekends.

  • This part of the line never runs on the weekends. It only runs Monday-Friday. In addition, more than half of all the trains that go west of Dover end in Lake Hopatcong. Some continue on and end in Mt. Olive, such as the one in this video. Only a few continue all the way to Hackettstown.

  • Thanks a lot for the info. This clears up a lot of things for me and many others.

  • No problem. I'm pretty sure that this part of the line is also owned or partially owned by Norfolk Southern. Beyond Hackettstown, the tracks continue as a freight line, and it eventually connects to the Lehigh Line down in Phillipsburg. The funny thing is that when an NJT train ends in Hackettstown, it just sits there for about 15-20 minutes. It then either heads east in revenure service, or simply deadheads to Hoboken.

  • When I filmed this I sat there for a while too. I waited about 20 minutes waiting for it to leave.

  • I see. BTW, while it was leaving, I think I heard another horn that sounded like some kind of Leslie. Do you have any clue where that came from?

  • I heard that too. I was puzzled when I heard it because I didn't see any other tracks around. I think the horn may have been mounted on a car.

  • That might be. The only other thing I can think of is that it was from some freight train on this very line. That doesn't seem possible, since there aren't any sidings to let anything pass by until Port Morris.

  • I think the most probable answer is a car due to the fact there is no other tracks near these.

  • I think you're right.

  • I agree.

  • BTW, that Comet V has a really awesome horn. 6059 is one of the best Comet Vs of all, along with 6000, 6004, and 6016.

  • Yeah, I fell in love with the horn at first blast. It is the best K5LA I've ever heard.

  • While I will say that it is a good horn, I would not say that it is the best K5LA I've ever heard. I love the K5LAs on 4100, 4108, 4145, 4146, 4801, 4803, 5029, and 6000.

  • I'll have to search for those to see how they sound.

  • It was probably from H02 on its way back from Washington, following this train. I'm gonna guess it was either blowing for a crossing, or answering the 6059

  • Probably. I didn't think of that.

  • I see. How often does freight run on that line anyway?

  • H-02 runs M-F. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, it runs west (from Dover) to Washington, and east, to the Boonton Line on Tuesday and Thursday.

I remember once seeing freight on a Saturday, but it was probably an extra.

  • I see. Do they run early in the morning or late at night?

  • Always during daylight, but times vary.

For example, I once saw them returing to Dover (they were almost there, ready to drop the cars and tie up) around noon.

But one other time, I saw them in Mount Olive (at Saxton Falls) after 5 on their way back to Dover. So there's no set times, only days.

  • Well that figures. Thanks for the info.:)

  • No prob.

You'd probably have to station yourself at one place all day if you want to see it.

I'm not sure why the times are different, though. Maybe it has something to do with the amount of switching for the day.

It has nothing to do with what day it is, though, since I've seen it at two completely different times, both on days where it runs to Washington.

  • Yeah, that usually is how frieght trains operate.

  • yes, but i believe that they always leave Dover around the same time, because they need to avoid NJT. So I don't know how a 3 hour difference comes in...

  • In that case, it sounds like Dover is the baest place to see it.

  • Probably. Then you also get all the Morristown Line (MidTOWN Direct, as well as Hoboken) and Montclair-Boonton Line stuff, too.

  • Yeah, Dover is a great place for railfanning because of that. Unfortunately, Dover itself is kind of seedy. Then again, alot of railroad towns are like that.

  • sometimes

  • Great location & shot!

  • Thanks!

  • did u hear that leslie in the back ground cause i did
