I owned one as a pet. I also owned a copper head when I was 10. The black racer bit me twice, and was crazy aggressive. The copper head never showed any sign of aggressiveness.
@TheSnakeLibrary but then how do black racers over power big rattle snakes? what makes them powerful? They have no constriction they have no bite power no venom they have nOTHING???????????????????????????? being fast wont cut it every animal out there is faster still
one of them ran over my feet when i was walking in the woods in the woods when i was 5 yrs old! i was w/my kindergarten class. i asked my teacher what was that? and she said it was a black racer! it was HUGE to me, about 6 ft maybe. it moved SO fast. i remember it vividly to this day, i never forgot it.
Reminds me of when I caught my first black racer a long time ago. It was about four feet long and almost pitch black. They will break their own necks if you hold them wrong. When you're walking along a path and see one raise its head and look around, it's impressive.
Well, typically black racers are a uniform black and blue racers are more of a gray color with greenish or bluish tinges to them. Blue racers are also generally larger, but that info is probably not helpful. Where do you live?
Nice snake and you are right they are naturally agressive. Most snakes do snap & freak out too when they're shedding their skin. It's like going around with your eyes shut...you don't know who to trust.
I have a 4 foot black racer and it loves eating mice & other small critters. They're naturally alert. If you know how to handle them (with patience), they are pretty good in captivity so long as you keep jumpy kids away from them.
I know they get bigger, but this one was an adult. I have caught them just over 5 feet. This was shot from Martin Co. Kentucky at the same spot as the rattlesnake video. Thanks for the comment.

@cateyes221981 Perhaps your thinking King Snake. I dunno, they might eat other snakes though.
