I think that if the govt wants to stop MTR - and I agree it should - then it should also compensate those miners unable to find new jobs. To essentially pay their early retirement pensions.

LOOK AT A RECLAIMED MINE SITE AND LOOK AT A POINT WHERE A STEEL BUILDING IS ERECTED "USING COAL TO MAKE THE STEEL" . The MTR after reclamation is beautiful but those citie just have rats and trash in them

I've worked for massey several years now....never been laid off or had a pay cut.......hmmm go figure. I've seen layoffs and paycuts though, dont get me wrong..My opinion is that this is how they get rid of sorry/lazy workers....they simply have the balls to do it.....Also...someone quoted " Massey will lay their ass off when the price goes down." Your rite....look at the auto industry.....whats wrong with lay offs when the economy is down?

Mines all around where I work are shutting their doors.... guess what?  I work for Massey and have not missed a shift... The sad thing,Massey helped destroy the union that the ancestors of many of these people shed blood to get. Massey has never cared about their workers,recently several Massey miners had to take one dollar an hour pay cut across the board..ya think Don Blankenship or upper management took a cut in pay??? Wake up people and quit sleeping with the enemy. I think all coal should be mined underground or none at all. I grew up in southern WV and have worked on drag line before..not pretty at all.

Wait and see how fast their lovely Massey will lay their ass off when the price goes down. Amazing that these people stand up for Massey,I have worked on Massey property(contractor)and have many friends who have been shit on by Massey. Just like the coal operators of old,they use these men up and throw em away when no longer useful to them. I am not against coal but its time to take care of the planet for the future generations. Lot of ignorance in southern WV...ton of it.
