A person can be saved wherever. In a car, in a bus, on a park bench, in a brothel, in the desert, on the ocean, on the Road to Damascus while persecuting Christians...wherever God wants to save them...."Can people "only" be saved within the walls of a Church of Christ building?"....ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!
1Timothy 3: 15 Says the CHURCH is the PILLAR & FOUNDATION of TRUTH.
Back when this was written their was only 1 CHURCH, the CATHOLIC CHURCH.
ALL protestant churches are TRADITION OF MEN. Have you heard of Martin Luther, John Calvin, Joseph Smith, Helen White, Charles Russell founders of their own DOCTRINE using a Catholic document (the Holy Bible)
PreacherNorm if you read this comment and can answer back. Im amemeber of the COC congregation but i dont 100% understand why it will be only the coc congreation going to heaven. How logical is it to argue that the Body of Christ stop after the 1st cenutry church then the bible survived 2000 years wihtout the body untill the restoration of the 1800's?
Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all ONE in Christ! (ESV)
If all believers in Christ followed by this verse there would be no denominations or sepration between believers, because we all follow one thing/person.
Now outside of believers, there will always be denominations because they follow many different things/people.
The biggest lie a Christian can say is that he / she doesn't belong to a denomination. Listen up. Even someone who worships on their own at home is a member of their own denomination and cutting themselves off from other denominations - create a denomination of their own making.
By the way the split off group of the "Disciples of Christ" called "Church of Christ" is a denomination with sectarian views (like only they baptized by them will be saved)...
if by Church of Christ a person is referring to the ENTIRE body of Christ then yes they are the only ones going to heaven. thats because ALL Christians are going to heaven.
The Church of Christ needs to understand that they TOO are a denomination. They are the first to want to set themselves apart! I ask you why do you spend all of your time condeming others, instead of preaching the gospel. Your works are supposed to be FRUIT of your Salvation, Its not that Salvation is a fruit of your WORKS. That would be like saying that Christ's blood isnt sufficient. Christ is ALL that is sufficient. Good works are fruit of the Holy Spirit.
@spellbiff bible says 1 Lord 1 Faith..n Eph & has no evidence of the apostles n their epistles writng to any other churches except the cof Christ, & we know all of these denoms can't b right because they all practice diff & the bible says we r 2 speak the same 1 Cor 1:10, & Paul instructs n Phil 3:16, walk, mind the same thing. How can there b more than 1. All by the Bible can't b right. Does n no way say Christ blood is insuffcnt. God has nvr had more than 1 covnt at a time & 1 law 4 his ppl.
I stand by my statement; but agree that there is only One Baptism, assuming it is correctly interpreted. In the Greek 2 words are used in the NT - Baptiso and Bapto. Baptiso means "dipped completely" referring to water baptism. Bapto means "to be immersed, ie surrounded or covered" with NO reference to water. Both words were transliterated baptize which is unfortunate.
The One Baptism is being "immersed (baptized) into the body of Christ " at the moment of trusting faith (salvation).
Read Rom 6:1-11...This passage is perhaps the best proof for immersion as baptism. In order for a person to be a new creature in Christ he must die to his old self, he must die to sins (Rom. 6:6-7, 11) and be buried (Rom. 6:4). Now, which one of us buries our loved ones by sprinkling or pouring some dirt on them? Just as we cant bury them in that manner, we cannot be buried unless we are immersed into the watery grave of baptism and truly mimic the death, burial and resurrection of Christ
What's clear is you CofCer's think that Baptism ALWAYS refers to WATER BAPTISM - it does NOT.
Rom. 6:1-11 is no proof for water baptism - it speaks to "being immersed into Christ".
The 2 Greek words used in the NT are: Baptiso which means "dipped completely" referring to water baptism; and Bapto which means "to be immersed, i.e. surrounded or covered" with NO reference to water. Both words were transliterated baptize which is unfortunate, and that has confused the C of C for years!
"What's clear is you CofCer's think that Baptism ALWAYS refers to WATER BAPTISM - it does NOT."
You, my friend are confused then.....Baptism definitely doesn't "ALWAYS" refer to water baptism, but it is the only baptism which continues today...
Christ came up out of the water, the eunch and Phillip went down into the water....Spiritually speaking, baptism is a burial(Romans 6:4, Colossians 2:12)...Christ shed His blood on the cross & at baptism we contact it, washing away our sins
Then quite clearly we disagree, as I was immersed into the "body of Christ" at repentance - at they same exact time my sins were washed away (no water required), and I was then obedient to Acts 2:38 in Baptism.
"Then quite clearly we disagree, as I was immersed into the "body of Christ" at repentance - at they same exact time my sins were washed away (no water required), and I was then obedient to Acts 2:38 in Baptism"
code for: What Acts 2:38 SHOULD say is.....dickiebow, repent because your sins have been washed away and be baptized.....
That is a somewhat perverted view of scripture, of which I already knew you had, but nevertheless a view you are entitled to...lack of knowledge destroys
I knew that would set you off - When John the Baptist said in Matthew 3:11
"I baptize you with water FOR repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Did the word "FOR" mean "in order to receive" repentence; OR did John Baptize because they HAD ALREADY repented?
"Did the word "FOR" mean "in order to receive" repentence; OR did John Baptize because they HAD ALREADY repented?"
It's the Greek work eis, the same as used in Acts 2:38.....Are you aware that the Ephesians were baptized twice, having only received John's baptism of repentance? Why would this be necessary to be immersed twice? Was John's baptism from God or from men? questions, questions.....
The 2nd baptism for the Eph's is not the issue. The issue is was it FOR (in order to receive) remissions of sins OR in response to forgiveness - clearly you think the former which is false, but I'm quite sure you have been taught that since you were a babe; so was I, and it took me 3 years to de-program myself from the 20 plus years of false indoctrination.
Please tell me, does the rest of the "Christian world" hold to an errant view of Baptism just to be obstinate? Or could they be right?
But the lack of respect you have for God's plan of salvation that includes water baptism is an issue....You go ahead and side with the "rest of the world", I'll take God at His word
Go ahead do as your friends in the C of C always do - put words in my mouth - I never claimed Baptism was not Important, nor did I say that it was not necessary as an act of obedience - I AM ONLY SAYING THAT SALVATION DOES NOT COME AT THAT POINT - CAPICE!!
@dickiebow2003 cofChrist does not think bapt always refers 2 water. Rom 6:1-11, v3 can't mean 2 surnd ur self/immersed n2 Christ u can't even get n2 Christ unless u r baptized. It is a verb not a noun. It is a reenactmnt of the death, burial, resurrctn of JC. It is 2b done by water as n Act 2:38. We kno from Eph 4:4 there is 1 baptsm which one? There R 7 baptsm n NT. The only 1 comnd 4 believrs 2day is by water.
Brother Norm, you've got me thinking... Your point (correct me if I'm wrong) is that we must have an understanding that we're baptized into "one church" before baptism is effective.
Given the serious nature of the subject, I propose a series defining which teachings we (and our congregation) must get right before we're in the "true church". Maybe you could even list them?
I'm thinking we may need to reject congregations who pay preachers. After all, that isn't in the Bible. What do you think?

After more study on the subject I stand corrected on my last comment re: paid preachers not being found in the Bible.
Though it wouldn't be difficult to claim Paul is writing as a missionary in Php 4:15, I seem to have missed a lot of 1 Cor. 9 in my haste. More study has shown the comment to be in error, though my original comment stands (except the last paragraph).
Additionally - thank you for answering a question related to scripture directly with scripture. I asked a number of questions of Brother Norm (such as a request for authorization for song books and church buildings), which were returned with a lot of opinion and no direct scripture regarding the subjects (as I could identify, anyway).

No, Campbell is actually the founder of the Christian Church. @PreacherNorm Barton Stone was the Founder of The Christian church. Alexander Campbell went on with the COC along with Walter Scott. The COC is a DENOMINATION. You are fooling yourself. I'm glad that you are pursuing options to increase your ability to serve in the kingdom. I would love for you to contact me and talk with me about some things pertaining to MSOP and about some possible alternatives to preaching school.
They did not accept my babtism with the christian church I was baptized in 08 because I was not in the right church , I asked these questions to my elders I told them why would you recognize his batism and not mine I was confused and could not seperate it
Is Alexander a part of the Lords church?you posted a statement saying it does'nt matter who ,baptizes you or were what matters is why .I never said anything about a doctrine this is what an elder told me when I asked him I did become a member of the Lords church in 08 because I,d rather know that I know im saved
So, how did you "become a member" of the Lord's church. You said you were baptized in the Christian Church. The Christian Church is not the Lord's church.
If someone told you that you should be accepted as a faithful member of the Lord's church based on your denominational baptism then you should have serious questions about that person's ability to give sound advice. I know my immortal soul is too precious to intrust to what some man might think. Make sure!
Did you watch the video? Don't ask me if your saved or not. All I can do is tell you what the Bible says you have to do to be saved and to stay saved. I think a good indication of your spiritual condition would be that you are in a denomination that cannot be identified from the New Testament of Jesus Christ. Since Jesus places saved people into his church (Acts 2:47) but you believe the Christian church is his church, I know I would not want to be in your shoes come judgment day.
what about Alexander and Thomas Cambell they? I know Alexander was baptized by babtist preacher in a baptist church <why would you recognize his and not my though I was babtized for the remission of sin.. thank you for your response
It doesn't matter who a person was baptized by. What matters is why they were baptized and what they believed when they were baptized. Many Pentecostal denominations baptize for the remission of sins. But they have not been scripturally baptized because they thought that Pentecostal church was "part of" the Lord's church. There is no such thing as "part of" when it comes to the Lord's church. You're either in it or you're not. Can you be added to "part of" the Lord's body? Which part - the toe?
When you were baptized, it was with the "understanding" that the Christian Church was "part of" the Lord's church. Can a person be taught wrong and baptized right? I think not (Heb. 8:10-11). A person has to be taught the truth before they can be saved by the truth (Jn. 8:32). You weren't taught the truth about the Lord's church, otherwise you would not have been in the Christian church.
By the way, have you watched the complete video or just this snippet? I would like to think you have watched the whole thing before getting into a discussion about it.
I left the apostate church in 03 ,I asked these questions to the elders of my church and I stated am I any differant then Alexander I believed in my baptism but the only thing I could not anwser was who church was I added too, so I brought up these questions to them and felt i did'nt get a square anwser.
I was baptized in the christian church am I saved or do I need to be rebaptized I know the church of christ use to recognize my baptism when didi they change what year did they stop recognizing it ..
When you say, "the church of Christ use to recognize my baptism" it seems that you think the church of Christ has a manual or creed book that said, "we accept Christian church baptism." That is not true. Whether you knew people who were confused over whether or not the Christian Church was a denomination or not, I don't know. But I can tell you that there is no such of thing as "church of Christ" doctrine. There is only Bible doctrine.
So where, according to Bible doctrine, do you get that Christ adds people to the Christian church when they are baptized. Where did Jesus ever say that he was going to build the Christian Church denomination? How could it be said that the Christian Church denomination is the Lord's church?
Thank you for your work for the Lord.

"Your assumption that every time the word "baptism" is used it refers to "water baptism" is error. Clearly John the Baptist spoke of the difference"
Have you read Ephesians 4:5 lately? Only "one baptism" continues does it not or do you take issue with the inspired writer Paul?

So, were you baptized correctly? In obedience to the plan of salvation and understanding that you were being added to the Lord's church.

you forgot a 4th. How do we know that the modern day churches that bear the title "Church of Christ" is the church Jesus established?

I already answered that question in several other videos. See especially, "Finding The True Church."
Thanks,
