VBS2 is Arma2 for militaries and others wanting a VR battle simulator.

From what I've read, this "game" or should I say simulator, is probably the most realistic game on the market (I read the Wikipedia article and it said that it's been used by actual Armed forces to train their members). @arup02 Arma is about 30 dollars, VBS2 is over 1000 dollars. Both use same engine but the ammount of content and features blows arma 2 away. VBS is for training only while arma 2 is for "entertainment"

VBS2 costs a ton of money is not a videogame. it's a training simulator.

Arma 2 uses VBS3 which has better graphics. Miltary users are more concerned

with the sim then fancy graphics.

VBS is not sold to the general public. VBS is a Virtual Military Training Program meant only for the use in training military personel. I don't think it's possible for a civilian to purchase this game at all, so you're just going to have to stick with Arma 2.

i have to disagree with the 3rd statement. most of the servers i've played on aren't riddled with children 12 and under since it's a more tactical game and not a "run n'gun" like Call of Duty. the 2nd statement is more of an opinion. some people like it, others don't. I happen to like it better than ArmA 1 for many reasons other than the graphecs, and ArmA 1 btw seems to have WAY better graphics than ArmA 2 in my opinion.

to be fair, yes, Arma 2 has obvious improvements over Arma as far as texture and detail, but in my opinion it seemed like Armas graphics were clearer, where as Arma 2 was a bit more blurry. Honestly speaking though, if i had to choose between the 2 games i'd choose Arma 2 because it has better gameplay compared to Arma1.

CAA1 is the way to go with Arma 2. Vanilla Arma 2 is pure crap compared to Arma. But maybe that's unfair as Arma 2 hasn't gotten its 128th patch yet. Arma 2 has butt-ugly vegetatation, AI that are dumber than signposts and a monotonous and ugly locale. The AI dialog is the worst I've seen in a game. And that's from a huge Arma franchise fan.

Using CAA1 and ACE 2 with some mods to help your AI mates pull their head out of their ass and yes, Arma 2 may be a worthwhile game.

The main gameplay differences weight up to few kilobytes each. Those are those little thingys which makes gameplay bugfree and much more enjoyable visually and in gameplay aspect.

And those are thing which Arma2 still lack of.

Examples: Proper handling of gun. Realistic recoil. More kicking sound of firearms. Faster and working animation transitions. Moving speed values for both vehicles and men.

I am a proud owner of VBS2. The gaming community for this game is very mature and serious about war games. The community comprises of military, ex-military and mature gamers. Don't expect to play with little kiddies or teenagers.

Gameplay is fun, realistic and very intense. I can see why real armies use this sim as a training tool. Apart from really joining the army, this is probably the closest you'll ever get to real war on a virtual battlefield.

VBS2 IS NOT $1500. It's $250 for a consumer version. VBS2 is a million dollar SIM w/ geodesic satellite data, specific military equipment data w/ true enemy techniques & procedures.

I am in the military and I have trained in VBS2 & the VBS environment makes ARMA2 look like Asteroids.

ARMA2 is made by the same developer for VBS2. It's a scaled down version of scenarios possible in VBS2. What people see in ARMA2 is less than 5% of what VBS2 can do

Also I think this could be a training tool but for a consumer version if it is 250(which is not the price I saw) then I still would not pay that amount. Armed assault is a lighter version of VBS2. Armed assault goes for $44.95 for each game or licence. For VBS2, it goes for about $2500 for each licence.

Yes but for 2500$ you have much more option,item,vehicle,aircraft/h­elicopter and a lot of different scenario with all military doctrine in real life, such patrol,defensives/offensives, tactic ect.

Canadian Forces have a version of VBS2 for Air forces command(Air Forces) and Land forces command (Army). US have his own version, same for UK and Australia with different uniform/vehicles from different country.

The civilian version sucks but for the price is a good option lol...
