  • That is *awesome* I am totally using that in my student teaching this semester! My CT is going to love it. Thank you thank you thank you! :)

  • I LOVE THESE VIDEOS.

  • I am a history teacher and Grad Student at MS State University. WHAT AN AWESOME WAY TO TEACH HISTORY! You inspire me to get a band and visit every high school I can, to spread the words of history! Thank you so much. The world needs more creative teachers like you!

  • I am really crazy about your videos! I love them! Hurray for historyteachers!

  • we need more crazy history teachers in the world! Great video!!

  • insanely great

  • Rapping ye old English...my life is complete.

  • This is fantastic. I showed it to my seniors today to get them primed for our Canterbury Tales unit.

  • Man, I wish my teachers we're as cool as you guys :) We watched this video in history class today. Everyone thought it was awesome. (i'm in 7th grade by the way)

  • What a great idea! Of course the tales are today considered non-PC (we all know). Anything that gives publicity to our world cultural legacy and history with such style merits kudos! Huzzah for the effort!

  • ALOHAAAAA & ROCK ON Hawaiian Teachers! I have a Arts Page (Zeeva International for Art, Inspiration, LOVE, Peace & Transformation in a Global Village) on FB--I came to YouTube searching for a song a Grafitti artist friend's new work just inspired me to find ("I have a noble cock...") Did NOT find that-but DID find YOUR GEM! Kudos! Posting right after the giant cock graffiti! Well done & I'm saving this to share periodically! THANK YOU!

  • love Canterbury and love attention from Hawaill

  • I love Canterbury, I love Chaucer, and I love historyteachers who, from the other side of the World spread the text. The reading of the Middle English is perfect. keep going!

  • Also, the word for "birds/fowl" is actually pronounced pretty much like "fools." Middle English is so tough because it's easy to read, but the pronunciation is usually so different from present day English.

  • Strangely, I think I like this better than the original...

  • are sorry but are you ( the creators of this video ) teachers at cats canterbery college?

and if yes wich graded do you teach ? year 10 ?

  • @dgendgen no- we are teachers located in Hawaii, USA

  • @historyteachers o ok :)

  • I've watched all of your videos and I have a top 3 favorites. This is one of them. Love the original song, love your lyrics, and really love Mr. H's rap!!!! All around, it is the pinnacle of awesomeness!!!! Thanks!

  • Very good. If, as well as history, you are a fan of Flight of the Conchords, check out videos by historicalconchords, including Hitlerpotamus vs. Weimarnoceros, Inner Kingdom Prussia, Hitler's Hurt Feelings, Foux du French Revolution and more to come soon. All made by three Year 11 students.

  • I love this song. I think I have said that before. That being said I was listening to the radio and California Dreamin' came on and....dammit!!... I was struggling to remember the words to the THEIR song. LMAO...awesome!!!

  • I watched this in LA today... oh CHaucer, thank you for finding this...

  • We watched this in language arts toda. Were studying Chaucer. This is so funny......

  • haha this is brilliant

  • Ya'll are so amazing, I wish I had teachers like that in high school!

  • Stunning! Many of these of videos are so funny and enjoyable because they provide the very things pop and rock songs are usually devoid of - beyond the fads and fashions of the day - namely, the sense of history and context. But "The Canterbury Tales" is marvelous in a different way. The original is one of the finest pop songs ever written and it captured perfectly the spirit of the moment. Hence this version does not feel like a (friendly) spoof, but a tongue-in-cheek hommage...Well done!...:)

  • @Lencyclopedie loved your comment - it IS an homage- I grew up in SoCal in the 70s! Also, if you look at one of the original vids of them performing this, they actually wear a Russian-type hat

  • This is awesome! Great job on the pronunciation of the Middle English as well. :D

  • I've spent most of my working life trying to understand and teach Chaucer: this video makes my career worthwhile. Well done, guys -- and great Middle English too!

  • Do you use actual instruments or synth? either way it's awesome I'm just curious

  • I simply love it! You are fantastic!

  • I simply love it! You are fantastic!

  • Well Done! Love the lyrics and the recital of the Middle English text! As usual, the background graphics are really well done. And you are all dressed similarly enough to the originals to fit the part. (Not to mention that you are all gorgeous, but I won't mention that.) With such voices, you should be famous, not just YouTube famous. My cat likes this one, and I assure you, this feline has excellent taste!

  • This song (and a few others of yours) helped me stay engaged through the long fanfiction writing process for the final project in my Canterbury Tales class (fanfiction[.]net/s/6556518/). Thank you.

  • I am so going to introduce this to my English teachers. You are awesome.

  • @jessicaadsit - you are officially the most creative commenter - loved the one on Pompeii, too! Thanks!

  • It's like Chaucer made love with the goddess of Awesome who then gave birth a baby who grew up and did it with Mama Cass who then gave birth to this video!

And to the dude reading the first lines of CT: well done, my friend. Well done.

  • I'm an english major / history minor. Why do I mention these facts? Merely to imply how much time I've lost to your videos. :) Bravo!

  • Love it!

  • Bards of old relaying knowledge through verse and song...Education--some people get..some people Don't...and some people Rock It...glad i found you/subscribed.

  • These are brilliant - more so than School House Rock! Good job!!

  • Brilliant.

  • My entire arts degree has been leading up to finding this video

  • @Kez269 mine too :)

  • You guys are SO awesome! You should go on tour!

  • This English teacher hearts you guys extremely.

  • @AKhomiakov- we do have Inferno and Odyssey- please enjoy!

  • Okay, gang. The Inferno's next. Maybe the Iliad or the Odyssey after that.

  • I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! Amazing and creative... You guys ROCK!!

  • Your Videos are AmAzInG!!!!! How do you put backgrounds on your videos? I have a video camera....

  • @Laceykat66 Thanks! It's one of my personal favs, too. Mr. H wrote the lyrics to this one, and, I think, does a fab job reciting the Middle English! - Mrs. B

  • Why the heck am I the first to comment on this one?

This is your most creative, in the use of language, you have done yet.

I would put this on my MP3 player just for the listening pleasure.
