I have no words that can comfort the families that have lost loved ones in this war. I am so proud of every one of those gallant soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Coming from a retired soldier, CSM Welch 89-2009 3rd Ranger Battalion. Never cry for a fallen soldier, only cry if he falls in vain. We go where others wish they could go...we serve where others wish they could serve...we do this so others can have this freedom to wish. Why we do it is not as important as the fact that we do it. We (soldiers) thank all Americans who use this gift of freedom to live like no other country. This is why we do it.

We are all sad for these soldiers and their families. What we should ask ourselves is: were their deaths really necessary ? Terrorists came from Afghanistan, not from Iraq. Is only with the use of weapons that terrorism will be defeated ? After 9 years of war, terrorism is still there. Maybe there is another way to stop it ?

@irisstars it saddens my broken heart to read your words of hatred. My son is one of those fallen heroes, but he would never have wanted anyone to hate those people. He was an EOD Journeyman for the USAF and was KIA in Afghanistan last October. Before he was deployed he told me that he was going over there to save lives by disarming IEDs. He did not go over there to "clean up the riff raff" you speak of. Your words of hate will never bring peace or save lives.
