just to respond to this whole debate...a WHILE back I sent Kabane a private message...very politely...asking him what evidence he had seen to support the ressurection...I was responding to a video he had made where he had mentioned people not believing evidence of the ressurection...I asked him if he could please tell me what evidence so I could take a look at it...he never responded...any idea what he is viewing as evidence?

@Bailey828282 humans have been around for at least 100k years and the consept of evolution for about 150yrs thats a huge gap so were still finding new fossils. you dont belive evolution explain to me how noah caught the over 1million speises of insects and kept them on a boat? and after the flood how did the penguins wadel there way to antarctica?
Yall talking about a fantasy but yet yall athiest fools can't provide me with step by step fossils from ape man to man, look fools nothing cannot create something impossible that must of been one powerful magical dot that created all that it is today lol sure really you will see who's telling the truth
@Bailey828282 atheists dont need to show that because atheism doesnt mean belief in evolution although there are fossils, literally thousands of them, just google that shit man
@Bailey828282 you know what, you remind me of my favorite Gandhi quote: "I like your Christ, i do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." If you are made in the image and likeness of God, then God must be a nutter.
Talking to a christian is like talking to a fish. There is nothing there but glassy eyes. They open there mouth and down the rabbit hole we go. Delusion has griped it's claws to deep for reason to release them. They want to be Wonderland.
It just astounds me how it could even be possible to attempt to have an educated rational discussion about make believe. Imagine spending your entire career and personal life in the belief and pursuit of the Vampire (as shown in old texts) and defending it from any contradicting logic or simple rational thought. Now Imagine the awakening in that you were so simple minded as to be duped in this way. It is an admission of your fear and stupidity and must be guarded at all cost.
@Bailey828282 ok so evn if the big bang isnt right then you think that AUTOMATICALLY makes GOD real? just because one claim isnt right doesnt automatically justify the other one you still have ot PROVE GOD EXISTS. thats like someone saying "theres liquid in this cup" one guy guesses its water one guesses its hot sauce just because its not water doesnt make it HOT sauce it could be juice or were you just playing around?
Kabane won the debate against this lost soul atheist please open your ears please look at the entire video from part one Matt didn't even do his homework how can he speak of something he admit he don't know about Matt thinks he knows everything but yet he looses to this guy name kabane, kabane did his home Matt didn't now he got this, guy calling the show probably on the pay roll to try to fix his lost against kabane Matt u lost the debate, and question how did the big bang happen
Hell is real alright, right here on earth and for the vast majority it comes in varying degrees of BAD to Worse. The poor live in the ninth circle of hell and the middle class somewhere in the first. Only the rich live in heaven.
@IlC4RL0SIl & he'd come back as a zombie & eat the geek praying for God to save him from the Undead Apocalypse, which would probably be you...when it comes to zombie movies, even God can't save you
Is that stupid ugly snaggle tooth bitch on drugs or what?? What the fuck is she smiling at?? It's painfully obvious that this bitch comes in with a presupposition, by laughing and smiling rudely before the guy even gets a chance to finish a point , ugly ass cunt
@jasonmiddleton47 little child, you do not belong here on YouTube. This is for adults only. Remind your parents to block this website in order to prevent their little cherub making a fool of himself again. K?
We know that Christianity is true because the Gospel writers, inspired by God who can make no error, recorded the founding events. For example, on the first Easter morning, the visitors to the tomb were greeted by which of the following:
a) A young man (Mark 16:5)
b) No, no, it was no man, it was an angel (Matthew 28:2-5)
Kabane's excuse for Matthew copying from Mark is that the latter was a close disciple of Peter (who was part of the "inner circle") and therefore did not need to rely on his own testimony. One of the obvious flaws in that argument is that the authorship of Mark itself is in doubt. Mark is also anonymous document which later Church tradition ASSUMED was written by John Mark the disciple of Peter.
@1RadicalOne Yeah, I see what you mean. I can't really hear what the caller is saying either, and from the looks of it it's not even the same Tommy. I'm guessing it's his father or something since Tommy's video is referenced from Matt.
He says himself that basically he wouldn't believe unless he sticks his fingers in the wounds. by then it will be too late.
Why does kabane believe any history happened if he wasn't there to see or approve it?that the witnesses to the events are agreeable to his own ignorance?
He shows his ignorance in that he simply doesn't believe in what he doesn't understand, makes his mind up based on that ignorance instead of allowing for that which he doesn't get.
Poor Kabane. In his evolution videos, he usually knows exactly what he is talking about, his science spot-on. But I've also seen his religious videos. It's a complete 180! He becomes just as easily fooled as any dimwitted redneck, though he speaks better. He has almost no standard of evidence when it comes to his bible.
I've seen this elsewhere, but he is the most clear-cut case I know. Most religious people have these mental blocks in place, preventing them from using logic on their beliefs.
I have a genuine question - if textual evidence is not sufficient proof for a historical event then what is?
I get the feeling that even if there were contemporaneous accounts available, Atheists like Matt would still knock them down and apply impossible and unachievable criteria to them.
It wouldn't matter how many historians wrote of miracles, if you approach from the scientific angle then this does not permit you to believe anything unless it can be scientifically demonstrable.
The problem is that these texts make extraordinary claims, but are not written by eyewitnesses, and conflict with records of the people they supposedly interact with.
Pontius Pilate is, for example, well known to history as he is documented in many Roman and Jewish sources. Records were kept of all of his trials and sent to Rome. But we can find no contemporary reference to the trial of Jesus by Pilate outside of the Gospels. Thus a historian cannot conclude that the Gospel story is accurate.
Sorry this is a bit late; your post was 2 months ago.
It's not that textual evidence is not sufficient for historical events. It's that textual evidence is not sufficient for miraculous events in history. You must have corroborating evidence. Each claim is evaluated separately as to what standards need apply.
If a text claimed that Jesus walked on solid ground, I can take that at face value. If a text claimed that Jesus walked on water, I'm going to need more convincing.
"If a text claimed that Jesus walked on solid ground, I can take that at face value. If a text claimed that Jesus walked on water, I'm going to need more convincing."
there have always been people who will not believe things...until it happens to them. Even the Gospels have Thomas. If they had video footage they'd cry "CGI ! CGI !
Like he said, if his own mother was on the phone being chewed on by zombies, he wouldn't believe it- until he had one starving to death (again!) while knawing on his dangerously empty head...
"A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas."
Why should someone take the word of a book that something happened 2,000 years ago? There is no proof of this claim, there are no other witnesses outside of this same book. If myself and 12 of my friends went on a camping trip and then wrote a book about how I was walking on water and pulling fish out of the air feeding people. Would you believe it after just reading the book? Would someone believe it in 2k years? Would you also believe it if I said you would goto hell if you didnt?
We can prove Napoleon existed by indipendent source. Many books were written about the life and times of napoleon. Many different people saw his life and exploits from many different angles yet they all saw him ride this horse, defeat this country on this day, heard him say the same thing all with the same outcome. Even his enamies wrote about him in defeat. There is really no comparing Napoleon to the bible or god in any of these ways. These are called facts.Need I say more?
your being one of those idiots that read it in a book....and weren't actually there to prove it...and then write it out (which you do very badly- spell much?) for posterities sake. but lucky you, now you don't have to write about it or even read(which would teach how to spell) you can just make or watch a video.Of course even if the entire Bible was filmed you'd shout "no plane!no plane!"
Only, So what you are saying is that other than being a spelling nazi here on you tube you really have no counter points to make or have I not understood how me showing you the epic failings of your previous statement and you not countering with some knowledge that is light years ahead of my feeble mind that you have somehow beaten me...? Just tell me how you would like me to vote on your oh so witty comeback...Oh wait it wasnt that witty and you made no point.
since you're lacking the mental capacity to read or write a response with any understanding, I'll s-p-e-l-l it out for you:
you said you don't believe anything written in "books" because what if you "went on a camping trip and then wrote a book" ergo you are an idiot....simple as you....
Only Apparently you sir are the idiot. Please re read my entire post. I say that the things listed in ONLY that book and not documented ANYWHEE outside of that book,,Ergo the Bible,,,,,,,,,,,,um I think you can figure out the rest for yourself,,lol,,,,,,you mental midget you,,HAHAHA....Now back to the question. Since you seem to believe that shit written in the bible as fact without proof,Would you take as fact my own exploits without proof???? Please do answer THIS question....Dumbass,,lol
Only,,Did I S-P-E-L-L it out clearly enough for you? yes I see I missed an R in the word Where,,cant be too lax around you. You might not be able to figure the word out unless I added that........And your asnwer to the question is?
I can pretty much sum this arguement up by answering your question with a question. Q: do you think all muslims are retards?Hell , lets get em all, buddhism?Zoroastrianism?Hinduism?Shinto?Confucianism?Taoism and any other Isms I might of missed. ....Do you believe in all of those gods, religions, bibles, teachings,,etc??? Do you feel they are fking retarded?. Please do tell.Let me just put it this way. For all the reasons you dont believe in them,I dont believe in yours.
glad to see that I have at least had the positive effect of getting you off your lazy mental ass to write like someone who lives in a country with schools....and might have attended a class or two...might....
If you answer yes to the questions I posed then I will get started on that "Biography" of mine. This should sell billions of copys! A current version of the bible and people will not ask me to provide proof of the things I will have written but just simply believe my text....This IS a sweet deal!
@only1too Why is it Thomas apparently got "to see" when he doubted and asked for it?
I suppose God loved the apostles more but does he love so little that he wouldn´t do this litte magic trick for me and show up in front of me? I´ve asked, especially when I was younger and more gullible I suppose, nothing ever happened.
God isn't a genie that pops up every time you rub the magic relic. He has ways of making Himself known to you- if you honestly seek His face, and then the true magic of the Holy Spirit works His way in an around you. Really want to "see" Him? read the New Test. (Mathew,Mark, Luke & John) like a novel and take it at face value.Don't get hung up on every verse. Just read it through. If you really want to see God's face, you'll begin to feel Him smilin' with ya! for real.man, for real...!
they give due credit: God, who was before egypt or canaan; the prophets whose words came to pass in their life times and are coming to pass in ours.
when they RFID your ass that you "may buy OR sell", may the words of these sages of the ages come to your mind that you may see the truth that they bear witness of God.
@only1too Unfortunately most of the Bibles are borrowed from the religious texts related to very gods the Bible scribes rail against. This is not divine inspiration...it's called fraud...
@only1too '' the prophets whose words came to pass in their life times and are coming to pass in ours.
''The prophets are not who they say they are.You had many scribes fronting for long dead ''prophets''.Many were written after the events and had historical inaccuracies...
archeologists are finding "mythical" cities today described in the Bible(even the culture) that until they were found were considered "historical inaccuracies". what you don't believe doesn't necessarily make it untrue...
@only1too You will find New York City as decribed in a SpiderMan comic book today. This says nothing about the existence of Spiderman.Cities described in the Book of the Dead and Enuma Elish have also been found. What does this say about the existence or Re and Horus???
so... "mythological" eden exists after all...where did we read about that first; later confirmed by the sumer tablets from a civilization said to have sprung to life with high mathematics right off from caveman ...6000 yrs ago?
how long does the Bible say we've been around(approx).why don't you read enoch(the first prophet of the OT) and see what he had to say about the "gods" of the sumerians..
@only1too Edin was a [man made] oasis and agricultural center. The Bible describes many places which actually existed but it placed mythological significance on them.
We are spiritual beings in a fallen state(as evidence of the world we have made),that there is a separation between mankind & God that we cannot undo; "The Way" has been made for us by The Christ, Jesus, conquering death thru the resurrection as told to us by the Apostles who paid the ultimate price doing so.
I did & I do; I wasn't born a Christian, it is a choice to be. It came by reading and an experience that I allowed for by keeping an open mind, heart & soul without preconceived notions or prejudices.
can you say the same of your "atheist experience" or were you out to knock out God to live a life free of the responsibilities that comes with freedom of choice?
Did your research include the Zoroaster’s who created the concept of Hell? And even in hell you could still make it to heaven. Neither Jew nor Christian came up with the concept of Hell, so how is Jesus the only way? And the Sumerian tablets depict solar systems etc that early humans would have no way of knowing that's what really gets me, you?
@Stairc Look at Zecharia Sitchin's work, sitchin.com. Or look up pictures of the ancient tablets. It tells a story of the Annunaki who came from the planet Nibiru created humans to mine for gold. It's interesting because the tablets follow the bible in very interesting comparison. Not arguing anything or stating any which point is true just that an ancient Sumerian culture had knowledge of things they shouldn't and that time in history telling a compelling story if you look at all the research.
@only1too The information I refer to is not in any internet video but scholarly books [some by priests] and my own reason.Zietgiest is classic ''disinformation''.Truth mixed with inaccuracies....
@only1too ''I don't think you can separate the wheat from the chaff of it''Maybe you can't but does that mean someone else cannot??? If you are a theist -it does. And what would be yur incentive for finding the ''wheat''???None.A belief system keeps the mind in check...
@only1too '' I recommend you see that vid I suggested'' What makes you think I have not search them out, viwed them all and evaluated them??? This is the arrogance that is heightened by ''holy books'' which have all the answers for you...
oh all seeing one eye, grand stack dump of 0's and 1's, how could I have possibly not guessed you've seen all & done all wa-a-ay under the age of 30- though you post being as such- but only the puerile hubris of self styled pubescent homunculus of wisdom would make such ridiculous claims...back to sitting on the potty with a comic book for you, boy...it's a start...Obe-wan-K-nobby..
@only1too The information which Zeitgeist presented so poorly was known to the ancients and debated among serious scholars in the early 1800's.The real data is even more damaging to todays' popular religions.Zeitgeist was nothing new to me...
@only1too I know all about RFID and long before you did I assure you. What I suggest [[you] do is read the texts of more ancient cultures and religions and [then] read your Bible again.
that would have made you about eight years old, I doubt it.
don't be so ASSure of yourself. But I can see why your so assured. many of those books are based on speculation based on ASSumption based on supposition & reverse bias to bolster their conclusions. I find it funny & sad how these things almost always use the Bible as a proof of their credibility....just remember where you read about the "mark" when they start enforcing it's use by situational conditioning; debit card much?
@only1too ''that would have made you about eight years old'' This calculation would be based on what??? Are believing everything you read again my little Jesus-bot??? =[
so you're even more of a punkass than you purport to be...can't even be honest with your age, how can your babble be taken seriously..? quit pretending to know anything and actually start.Begin with knowing you know very little & deflating your over sized account, opinion etc. of yourself and start filling the cotton stuffed void between your ears with KNOWledge not just information wikipidiot...there is a difference but you obviously have to learn that first...
@only1too Wait.Let me get this right. You are afraid the ''mark of the beast'' but you are posting your personal data on the internet???Won't be to difficult for Satan to find you in that closet in Virginia [Kentucky?]will it???Well you are more retarded than your religion aren't you???Be back soon.Got other retards to get to.Mark of the Beast anyone??? =D
now, I know you're a paranoid lil' 14yr old gamer troll,(probably no planer)but that doesn't excuse you from not being able to read the simplest of posting (Kentucky? a.d.t much?lipoicacid,or is that what your momma says so you take those little pills to calm you down & shut you up?) Your inability to read even the simplest post is the measure of your mental capacity. You calling anyone a 'tard is the kettle calling the pot black.Back to the basement & wait for momma to call,boy..
@only1too ''don't be so ASSure of yourself'' I would not have such a low opinion of ''asses'' the Jews have traditionally held the ass to be a symbol of wisdom.Maybe that is why donkeys give such good advice in the Bible.''Hee-haw'' much? =D
@only1too ''those books''=books you have not read that contradict your belief in flying dead rabbis and moon gods that dictate laws [already in use] from volcanos??? =[
@only1too ''how these things almost always use the Bible as a proof of their credibility'' I would ask what the f@ck that means but when have a bit of sport with cult members you have to let some things go...
how they make comparison with the Bible(not anything else) to give credence to the W5(who,what etc for those like you that wouldn't get W5) of where it came from.watch: the truth about "sheitgeist" already and shut up.
@only1too ''when they start enforcing it's use by situational conditioning'' Most likely you are already ''chipped''.What makes you think you have to be subdued to be ''chipped''???
If someone I trusted told me the Zombiez were comin' I'd board up my house steal all the canned food from the super market across the street and get ready for the fun. ^_^
Actually in more recent zombie movies and games the zombies are runners and not shufflers. I wonder why the switch? I guess the zombies are scarier when they can run you down, shufflers can only get you if they can corner and surround you.
Well, he finally got around to the real point of the argument. I was gnashing my teeth and pulling my hair out during the debate with Kabane.
Evidence of authorship is not evidence that anything in the text is true. Particularly when the authors were Bronze Age thugs trying to sell a new religion
Even if their intentions were pure, there is still the issue of metaphor and analogy. Was this work intended as a factual account or a parable?
"Was this work intended as a factual account or a parable?"
If you actually had bothered to watch the exchange between Tommy and Matt Dillahunty, you would know. The Gospels are ancient biography ie. a factual account.
No. That's an assumption based on your beliefs. You believe that Jesus Christ was a real person and was the son of God. You are required to believe this, because if the Bible is not fact, your religion is a sham.
For example, Matt discusses the case of Socrates and states that even if he was not a real person his words still have value and are useful. The same is true of the Bible, if it is not true, it still has value as parable.
Unfortunately, as a believer you are not afforded this luxury.
Sorry, No assumptions there. The Gospels are written history. 1 Corinthians specifically states, the Gospels to be documents of ancient biography, not midrash. Plus, All scholarly historians, liberal and conservative, affirm to the historicity of Jesus ie. A Harvey, Richard Carrier, N.T Wright, Ronald Nash, Richard Haubermas etc.
Matt's logic is bankrupt, as the scientific method for establishing a persons existence or history has NOTHING to do with history. Thus, his claim can be dismissed.
And you, Like Kabane, have missed the point entirely. Even if I were to concede that the Gospels were historically accurate (which I most certainly do not), what Matt is saying is that still wouldn't mean that the miracles contained therein are scientifically proven. It wouldn't even mean they were likely.
Historical proof for the authorship of the Gospels and for the existence of the people described by them is a separate issue from scientific proof of miracles.
"Matt is saying is that still wouldn't mean that the miracles contained therein are scientifically proven"
Science and History are completely different issues. Quit trying to conflate the two as one, to scientifically determine the historicity of Jesus and his miracles. History and Science are NOT the same! Yours and Matt Dillahunty's argument is bankrupt, and almost everyone recognises it.
Also, if you want to dispute the accuracy and historicity of The Gospels, I'll be happy to prove you WRONG. Or, you can just argue against the consensus of scholarly historians who do ACCEPT the historicity and accuracy of the gospels.
I'm not conflating the issues, you are misrepresenting the argument. Matt is arguing, first, that there is insufficient evidence to attribute definite authorship to the Gospels. And second (and separately), that even if you believe the Gospels are supported by historical evidence, that still doesn't mean any of the supernatural hokum is true by association.
And by all means, show me this "consensus" of scholars that verify the historical accuracy of the Bible.
Considering the vast majority of Bible characters (aside from known Kings, governors and other notable figures. Though the Bible is often mistaken about the dates of their reigns/terms/lives) don't appear in any outside source making it nearly impossible to corroborate their actual existence.
The Mosaic story, the Jesus myth and several other central themes in the Bible lack any physical evidence or third party confirmation.
So, again I say, by all means show me your consensus of scholars.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"by all means show me your consensus of scholars."
Very well. A E Harvey, N T Wright, Ronald Nash,Richard Bauckham, Robin Evans, Alvin Plantiga, Richard Carrier, Paul Eddy, Gregory Boyd, William Lane Craig, J. Komoszewski, M.J. Sawyer, Dan Wallace, JP Moreland, K.A. Kitchen etc. etc. etc.
I could cite more if you wish. Though, I'd probably flood the comment section...
More unsubstantiated assertions. Please provide evidence for your numerous canards, regarding the erroneous historicity (ie. reign of kings, governors, terms, lives etc.) of the gospels. All you've done is spewed out a few sound bites, providing absolutely nothing to back them up. I provided you evidence. The least you could do, is do the same.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"And second (and separately), that even if you believe the Gospels are supported by historical evidence, that still doesn't mean any of the supernatural hokum is true BY ASSOCIATION."
First, you regard the issues as being addressed "separately", now you regard them "by association"? Sorry, No getting your way out of this one...
Are you illiterate? I'm not the one playing the association game. That is the common tactic of the people who believe this garbage. For the last time, the argument is that even if the Gospels were historically accurate, that has no bearing on their scientific accuracy. I'm not conflating the two, I'm no trying to disprove one by disproving the other. I'm simply saying that EVEN IF we were to accept the accuracy of the Gospels historically, there would still need to be separate proof for miracles
Now, on to your "consensus of scholars." On your list, you have cited almost exclusively Christian apologists. Three of these are professors at Seminary schools and one is a BISHOP. The one person on your list without a vested interest in the truth of the Bible (Richard Carrier) doesn't actually support the idea that the Gospels are historically accurate. He suggests that they have been subject to the broken telephone game of history and contain metaphors lost on future readers and writers.
This argument is a total red herring. I can list Muslim scholars who believe the story of Mohammad flying into heaven on a winged horse is historically accurate, but as I'm sure you'll agree, that group would have a particular bias that would make their testimony suspect.
Consensus among people who all already believe the same thing is neither surprising nor particularly convincing. Unless you have a consensus reached among a secular, unbiased grouped of actual scholars, I'm not interested.
Now, on to some of my points about historical inaccuracies in the Bible:
Egyptian history contains no record of the Hebrew people ever being kept as slaves.
The Gospel of Luke describes a census conducted by Quirinius, governor of Syria during the reign of Herod. This is problematic for several reasons not the least of which is the fact that the terms of Herod and Quirinius never overlapped.
Herod's massacre of all the young males in and around Bethlehem (as described in Matthew) is not only unrecorded anywhere in conventional histories, but is also unrecorded in the only other Gospel to give an account of the birth of Jesus, Luke.
Josephus, one of the most celebrated historians of the time, doesn't mention Jesus, Herod's massacre, or the star heralding Jesus' birth.
There are innumerable cases in which the Bible simply doesn't fit with other known history.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh, and I wont be responding to any of your comments. How does it feel to be crushed by a Christian? ROFL. Trot along now little atheist : ) You are in over your head.
ProjectEnquirer, do you actually care about truth or just "winning" on YouTube? Spiderzer0 presented legitimate objections to your arguments, reiterated a point you insisted on misrepresenting numerous times, and managed to be respectful throughout.
If you really followed your codes of love and respect you wouldn't insult people for disagreeing with you, and you wouldn't act childish when you could no longer answer his objections.
oh yes definately. religious people have power in government. seperation of church and state is only to a certain extent considering that most politicians belive in religion.
i see atheist girls as being complex even more than other types of girls and that to me is a turn off. another thing is that they think they know stuff just because it makes sense to them.
and the two things you mentioned are interesting but nothing a religious girl cant have.
"they know stuff just because it makes sense to them" you can't know something just because it makes sense to you, you can accept something. did you mean they think they know something? I guess we'll have to disagree about atheist girls necessarily being more complex.
"nothing a religious girl can't have" really? i'm pretty sure there something about sodomy in the bible... also, I didn't say religious girls can't be sexy I'm saying that atheist girls are sexy.
yes i meant that they think they know stuff. yes i definately think theyre more complex. when i finish this reply ill look for the video and ill show you what i mean.
ive known some religious girls that have no rules so thats why i said that
Matt's example of not believing his relatives is very useful in pointing out that now TIMES ARE DIFFERENT. People today have (FINALLY!) "determined" that reports of witches, talking trees, stopping suns, etc., etc., are BEST TAKEN as ERRONEOUS reports. Until even a few hundred years ago that was NOT true--fantastic reports were given credence.
I think it's important to keep that in mind in judging ancient reports of miracles--they could be made and accepted far too easily in that time.
Look how his religiosity is. We see a man believing that his faith is so more coherent than the one of the other he feels down in the right of being arrogant and ironic. Do you see the consequence of the ("pseudo") atheism? The people become uncommunicative, arrogant and, to the I contradict than it is waited of a rational person, HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT. After all, God doesn't exist. He then, continues to have faith: "in the beginning it was it anything, the nothing exploded, and here we are us."
Tomshark7 you are either being willingly ignorant about this matter, or you suffer from the same problems as the majority of christians in general. You don't even know what this book that you base your whole life on even says. I mean honestly the story of Jesus is like 3% of the total bible. The rest is a pretty damn grim account of god usually.
It appears that my last comment was deleted and who knows it this one will go through. My goal here has been to learn what atheists believe and it has been interesting to get some answers.
If you really are interested in a rational discussion about beliefs, not a heated emotional argument, then I'll consider discussing the what, how and why of my beliefs.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! JESUS'S DAY.I'M SOO HAPPY AND LOVE JESUS SO MUCH.you atheists still celebrate Christmas right?though it's prolly more for the gifts.Lol.It's a wonderful holiday,I am not ashamed to show my love for jesus and what he did for us.He completes me.

We know that Christianity is true because the Gospel writers, inspired by God who can make no error, recorded the founding events. For example, on the first Easter morning, the visitors to the tomb were greeted by which of the following:
a) A young man (Mark 16:5)
b) No, no, it was no man, it was an angel (Matthew 28:2-5)
c) You're both wrong, it was two men (Luke 24:4)
d) Damn it, there was nobody there (John 20:1-2)

Kabane's excuse for Matthew copying from Mark is that the latter was a close disciple of Peter (who was part of the "inner circle") and therefore did not need to rely on his own testimony. One of the obvious flaws in that argument is that the authorship of Mark itself is in doubt. Mark is also anonymous document which later Church tradition ASSUMED was written by John Mark the disciple of Peter.

harriettewinslow 1 year ago
He says himself that basically he wouldn't believe unless he sticks his fingers in the wounds. by then it will be too late.
Why does kabane believe any history happened if he wasn't there to see or approve it?that the witnesses to the events are agreeable to his own ignorance?
He shows his ignorance in that he simply doesn't believe in what he doesn't understand, makes his mind up based on that ignorance instead of allowing for that which he doesn't get.
only1too 1 year ago
Poor Kabane. In his evolution videos, he usually knows exactly what he is talking about, his science spot-on. But I've also seen his religious videos. It's a complete 180! He becomes just as easily fooled as any dimwitted redneck, though he speaks better. He has almost no standard of evidence when it comes to his bible.
I've seen this elsewhere, but he is the most clear-cut case I know. Most religious people have these mental blocks in place, preventing them from using logic on their beliefs.
Anon11674 1 year ago 2
I have a genuine question - if textual evidence is not sufficient proof for a historical event then what is?
I get the feeling that even if there were contemporaneous accounts available, Atheists like Matt would still knock them down and apply impossible and unachievable criteria to them.
It wouldn't matter how many historians wrote of miracles, if you approach from the scientific angle then this does not permit you to believe anything unless it can be scientifically demonstrable.
CommonSenseMan1 2 years ago
The problem is that these texts make extraordinary claims, but are not written by eyewitnesses, and conflict with records of the people they supposedly interact with.
Pontius Pilate is, for example, well known to history as he is documented in many Roman and Jewish sources. Records were kept of all of his trials and sent to Rome. But we can find no contemporary reference to the trial of Jesus by Pilate outside of the Gospels. Thus a historian cannot conclude that the Gospel story is accurate.
GreenByNature86 1 year ago
But there are no contemporary accounts of the miracles, they are all hearsay.
Incredible events require incredible evidence because the human mind can easily be fooled (ie david copperfield tricks).
Im sure even ardent Atheists would like to see evidence of God, but unfortunately none can be provided.
xdir 1 year ago
@CommonSenseMan1

@Only,
Why should someone take the word of a book that something happened 2,000 years ago?

Well, he finally got around to the real point of the argument. I was gnashing my teeth and pulling my hair out during the debate with Kabane.
Evidence of authorship is not evidence that anything in the text is true. Particularly when the authors were Bronze Age thugs trying to sell a new religion
Even if their intentions were pure, there is still the issue of metaphor and analogy. Was this work intended as a factual account or a parable?
Known authorship =/= known veracity.
spiderzer0 2 years ago 4
"Was this work intended as a factual account or a parable?"
If you actually had bothered to watch the exchange between Tommy and Matt Dillahunty, you would know. The Gospels are ancient biography ie. a factual account.
ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago
Unfortunately, as a believer you are not afforded this luxury.
spiderzer0 2 years ago 4
Sorry, No assumptions there. The Gospels are written history. 1 Corinthians specifically states, the Gospels to be documents of ancient biography, not midrash. Plus, All scholarly historians, liberal and conservative, affirm to the historicity of Jesus ie. A Harvey, Richard Carrier, N.T Wright, Ronald Nash, Richard Haubermas etc.
Matt's logic is bankrupt, as the scientific method for establishing a persons existence or history has NOTHING to do with history. Thus, his claim can be dismissed.
ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago

ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago
Also, if you want to dispute the accuracy and historicity of The Gospels, I'll be happy to prove you WRONG. Or, you can just argue against the consensus of scholarly historians who do ACCEPT the historicity and accuracy of the gospels.
ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago
I'm not conflating the issues, you are misrepresenting the argument. Matt is arguing, first, that there is insufficient evidence to attribute definite authorship to the Gospels. And second (and separately), that even if you believe the Gospels are supported by historical evidence, that still doesn't mean any of the supernatural hokum is true by association.
And by all means, show me this "consensus" of scholars that verify the historical accuracy of the Bible.
spiderzer0 2 years ago 4
Considering the vast majority of Bible characters (aside from known Kings, governors and other notable figures. Though the Bible is often mistaken about the dates of their reigns/terms/lives) don't appear in any outside source making it nearly impossible to corroborate their actual existence.
The Mosaic story, the Jesus myth and several other central themes in the Bible lack any physical evidence or third party confirmation.
So, again I say, by all means show me your consensus of scholars.

First, you regard the issues as being addressed "separately", now you regard them "by association"? Sorry, No getting your way out of this one...
ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago
Are you illiterate? I'm not the one playing the association game. That is the common tactic of the people who believe this garbage. For the last time, the argument is that even if the Gospels were historically accurate, that has no bearing on their scientific accuracy. I'm not conflating the two, I'm no trying to disprove one by disproving the other. I'm simply saying that EVEN IF we were to accept the accuracy of the Gospels historically, there would still need to be separate proof for miracles
spiderzer0 2 years ago 41
Now, on to your "consensus of scholars." On your list, you have cited almost exclusively Christian apologists. Three of these are professors at Seminary schools and one is a BISHOP. The one person on your list without a vested interest in the truth of the Bible (Richard Carrier) doesn't actually support the idea that the Gospels are historically accurate. He suggests that they have been subject to the broken telephone game of history and contain metaphors lost on future readers and writers.
spiderzer0 2 years ago 5

This is problematic for several reasons not the least of which is the fact that the terms of Herod and Quirinius never overlapped.
spiderzer0 2 years ago 5
Herod's massacre of all the young males in and around Bethlehem (as described in Matthew) is not only unrecorded anywhere in conventional histories, but is also unrecorded in the only other Gospel to give an account of the birth of Jesus, Luke.
Josephus, one of the most celebrated historians of the time, doesn't mention Jesus, Herod's massacre, or the star heralding Jesus' birth.
There are innumerable cases in which the Bible simply doesn't fit with other known history.

Oh, and I wont be responding to any of your comments. How does it feel to be crushed by a Christian? ROFL. Trot along now little atheist : ) You are in over your head.
Good Bye! ^_^
ProjectEnquirer 2 years ago
ProjectEnquirer, do you actually care about truth or just "winning" on YouTube? Spiderzer0 presented legitimate objections to your arguments, reiterated a point you insisted on misrepresenting numerous times, and managed to be respectful throughout.
If you really followed your codes of love and respect you wouldn't insult people for disagreeing with you, and you wouldn't act childish when you could no longer answer his objections.
Please stop being a poor example of a Christian.

@spiderzer0 Indeed and he tries to pretend like its historical consensus when it isn't - even if it was he'd be guilty of argumentum ad populum.

It's a turn on because oral sex is not dissallowed in athiesm.
MajNorberg 2 years ago
ive never had oral sex but i would do it and im not an atheist
homeworksuks 2 years ago
well before the sexual revolution oral/anal sex was against the law because...yes you guessed it...some obscure text in the bible....
ditto for interracial marriages (1967 US)
/gays/// etc
gay rights are obviously still up in the air.
MajNorberg 2 years ago
maybe its the sexual immorality verse. and yes my teacher says that gay people would have a lot more freedoms if it wasnt for religious people
homeworksuks 2 years ago
@homeworksuks- Given that opposition to gay marriage laws tend to be entirely based off religious reasons, I'd agree with that assessment.
Macrochenia 2 years ago
which comment are you replying to?
homeworksuks 2 years ago
Your comment about your teacher's assessment of religion opposing gay rights.
Macrochenia 2 years ago
oh yes definately. religious people have power in government. seperation of church and state is only to a certain extent considering that most politicians belive in religion.

how do atheist girls turn you off? no rules + a big sexy brain
pope6789 2 years ago 4
i see atheist girls as being complex even more than other types of girls and that to me is a turn off. another thing is that they think they know stuff just because it makes sense to them.
and the two things you mentioned are interesting but nothing a religious girl cant have.
homeworksuks 2 years ago
"they know stuff just because it makes sense to them" you can't know something just because it makes sense to you, you can accept something. did you mean they think they know something? I guess we'll have to disagree about atheist girls necessarily being more complex.
"nothing a religious girl can't have" really? i'm pretty sure there something about sodomy in the bible... also, I didn't say religious girls can't be sexy I'm saying that atheist girls are sexy.
pope6789 2 years ago
yes i meant that they think they know stuff. yes i definately think theyre more complex. when i finish this reply ill look for the video and ill show you what i mean.
ive known some religious girls that have no rules so thats why i said that

If you really are interested in a rational discussion about beliefs, not a heated emotional argument, then I'll consider discussing the what, how and why of my beliefs.
tomshark7 2 years ago
You want a rational discussion yet many of your comments your trying to proof that atheism is a religion.........
Don´t you need to be rational also?

I don't know a ton about atheism, but from what I have learned it seems like it is an organized belief system.
