@joefrancis1439 Hmmm Well recently I was able to watch the whole documentary from which these clips were taken, and they interview George Gaffney who was with Sarah for 10 years or so. They don't say specifically, I'm pretty sure it's him (the head looks like his, and they put parts of his interview up at the same time as that set). NOW I'm wondering who the other players are!
This concert was actually recorded at Stockholms Konserthus, October 30th 1967 (not 1964). It was part of the tour version of the Newport Jazz Festival and was produced for swedish national television by producer Lars Egler. Three other songs from this concert -The Shadow of your Smile, What Now My Love and I Had a Ball- are available on the special Bonus disc of Jazz Icons Series 2. The musicians featured are: Bob James, piano, Herbie Mickman, bass and Omar Clay on drums.
I saw Sarah the first time in 1973 at Boston's Symphony Hall; 2nd time was in 1974 at Boston's John Hancock Hall; 3rd & 4th times at Carneigie Hall, NYC in 1978 and 1979 and the last time in Chattanooga, Tennessee in the early 80's. I'll never forget her.
The fact that I didn't know about her until recently shows a HUGE FAILURE in our public school systems. Unbelievable. What good is school if they don't teach you about stuff like this. Style, music, art, the depths of each decade = the heritage of the human race. Anyways, very nice.
I know what you're saying. I wanted to see her at The North Sea festival. Also sick! Dorethy Donnegan replaced her. Was great fun. Couple of month later Sarah Died....
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! She is amazing. I could have gone to a concert just before she died and didn't. What a regret. Don't wait to do anything people because you never know what is around the corner.
I did the same thing back in 1988. I could have gone to her concert in San Diego but was too cheap to pay the ticket price. I've regretted that since the day she died. There will never be anyone who can replace her. A singer like her comes along once in a lifetime.

Who wrote this song? I hear Ella sing it when she was young.

@blktenor Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics and Rube Bloom wrote the music.

@jrobinso Its a young Bob James - He played with Sassy around 1960-1965! I can't find the full recording anywhere - not even who produced it!

My biggest musical regret is never seeing Sarah live.
I went to the Royal Festival Hall (London)in the early 1960s to see her.
Announcement. Sick. Joe Willliams took her place. Wonderful singer but I never got to see her.
