A labour shortage means Japan's economy will slip up and without natural resources or a large workforce, it's going to be a lot harder to rise back up again.

Nobody is saying that assimilation is to be avoided but you can't say that the Japanese route treatment of indigenous people like the Ainu is fair. @BigDog91527 Knowledge and culture come from various areas in the world and yet they can be transmitted. Japan itself has been a recipient of Chinese and Western cultural influence. It is because Japan is Westernised that it is such a developed country. And to act as if Japan is perfectly harmonious would be ignorant to the many subcultures that exist there. They would assimilate or they would leave and who's to say they would never go back to their previous countries after a while.

@SRT480 It's not the same the world over :S Firstly, the birthrate is not nearly as low as in Japan in most of the developed world, and second, many (most?) western countries have a far more open immigration policy than Japan, and has had that for many many years, hence fixing the problem much earlier.
And a declining population would not make people seek better (or worse) jobs. If anything, it would make finding jobs easier, as there would be a lack of workforce (especially educated).

For every country time will come when the population will begin to decrease (and maybe become stable at some point, but perpetual increase in impossible). Man this is why when Japan faces a tsunami, many people like to celebrate.
Japanese stuborness will lead to their decline and their extinction. It's a globalized world and though you can't have uncontrolled immigration, you do at least need some of it.
They are living longer lives and having fewer children. The reality is that they haven't perfected their robots and the only alternative is immigrants.

You think of this in terms of this limited cycle that exists within Japan, but it's a global system we're talking about here.
A labour shortage means Japan's economy will slip up and without natural resources or a large workforce, it's going to be a lot harder to rise back up again.
Escpecially since it's ageing.

Nobody is saying that assimilation is to be avoided but you can't say that the Japanese route treatment of indigenous people like the Ainu is fair. Not all immigrants bring up the crime rate and it's certain peoples from certain groups who have high crime rates. Again, nobody's saying they need to welcome mass immigration. But it's unavoidable in a capitalist system.

@BigDog91527 Knowledge and culture come from various areas in the world and yet they can be transmitted. Japan itself has been a recipient of Chinese and Western cultural influence. It is because Japan is Westernised that it is such a developed country. And to act as if Japan is perfectly harmonious would be ignorant to the many subcultures that exist there. They would assimilate or they would leave and who's to say they would never go back to their previous countries after a while.

That means that, as this documentary also said, in 2050 Japan will have lost around 20% of it's population (around 30 million people), and will be left with far to many old people to support, for the few young workers.

@SRT480 It's not the same the world over :S Firstly, the birthrate is not nearly as low as in Japan in most of the developed world, and second, many (most?) western countries have a far more open immigration policy than Japan, and has had that for many many years, hence fixing the problem much earlier.
And a declining population would not make people seek better (or worse) jobs. If anything, it would make finding jobs easier, as there would be a lack of workforce (especially educated).

For every country time will come when the population will begin to decrease (and maybe become stable at some point, but perpetual increase in impossible). How many people who visit E Asia would visit only Japan? If Japan is the first leg, then a tourist has to fly.
Hong Kong has great advantage as the first leg of an Asian tour. To see the rest of China, one can take a train from Hong Kong and site see as one travels.

Look at what multiculturalism has done to europe and north america. Our once great cities have been trashed by immigrants from low countries with low cultures, and these immigrants are typically from the lowest rungs of their society.
