  • Because he gave us a bunch of horseshit about how loyal he was to the network he was with in those cheesey fake commercials, then for a couple thousand dollars more a year he sells out and goes to another network, he did four times in NY...That's how.

  • Ernie Anastos the biggest traitor in NY.

  • @bjroberts65 how?

  • mcdonalds will hopefully one day be the most hated company on the planet.

  • @gbnnn Probably not in our lifetime though =/

  • John Irwin (the voice of "Morris the Cat" in the "9-Lives" commercials) is the announcer in the "McNugget Mania" ad at :50.

  • does any 1 know what the date was that this oringally aired,i remember the nuggets commercial running in august 1983,and I assumming that It Is summertime because of the beach storyline,If It Is the summer of 1983 I used to watch Channel 7 all afternoon All My Children,One Life To Live,General Hospital,The Edge of Night,I can't remember If Peoples court was still on at 4:30 in the summer of 83,I remember some kind of news entertainment-news combo show 7 tried between Edge and Eyewitness News

  • Do you have video of KGO-TV's Spencer Christian doing the Weather for WABC I wondered how well he did as a WABC Weather Anchor and GMA weather anchor before he came to KGO-TV in 1998

  • I don't think I have it, But thanks for asking.

  • Hi:) Thanks for the post Eyewitness news had the best teasers to get the viewer 2 tune In,do you know what the hooking up and paying up 4 cable tv usuage was about,do you know what happenned to tracey egan, wow!where do the years go,Channel 7 afternoons after school with General Hospital and The Edge of night CH 2 had repeats of 1 day at a time on at 4pm,the 4:30 movie, then after that "the peoples court"Roger Grimsby he was Old school reporting was News reporting was actually Real News

  • He...didn't actually do weather for WABC.

He was the sports anchor, IIRC.

  • Mr. Christian did do weather for WABC in the late 1970's, then switched to sports in the next decade. Someone did put up an aircheck of a 1978 "EWN" newscast where he did weather:

    watch?v=dmn4LMp5C5o

  • You're right...saw it well after the fact.

I think, then, he would've only had to be the weekend weather guy because you already had Storm Field during the week by that point.

  • I think during the late 1970's Mr. Christian generally did the 11 P.M. newscasts while Mr. Field handled 6 P.M.

  • Ernie Anastos would later go to WCBS-TV and would anchor the 6 and 11 PM newscasts from 1989-1992, and then again from 2001-2003.

  • I'm interested in seeing what bust that was they were discussing. It was only a year later that the PIzza COnnection went down. This may have to do with the Gambino family heroin operation, run by the Gotti crew.

  • when they launched

they were the first with the circle 7 logo

    look it up on wikipedia

  • The first 15 sec of this was so classic. Especially "We've heard it a time and time again and you hear it again"

  • It seems when one of the Grimsby/Beutel team was off, Grimsby was more missed when he was off than the other way around, as Roger once again displays his particular take on the news of the day in this example.

  • I agree with what you are saying. Even though Beutel spent 41 years on channel 7, he really never stood out. Even when he was the lead anchor.

  • Well then, if Grimsby was more missed than Beutel, why did news director Bill Applegate dismiss him in 1986?

  • It was the viewers who missed Grimsby whenever he was on assignment or vacation . . . but over the years he had butted heads with WABC management over one thing or another. It appears that on that end, Beutel was more a "get along" guy. Even some on-air talent at the station, from what I read, had expressed that Beutel was more a "mentor" type while Grimsby seemed intimidating. Or to put it another way, Beutel put them at ease whereas Grimsby made them "ill at ease."

  • Couple that with the fact that, by the time he was fired, Grimsby was making upwards of $1-million a year - too pricey for the "cheap" management of Capital Cities which acquired ABC in 1985.

  • Grimsby Was also known to not get along with the KGO Management as well. Grimsby in a KGO interview from 1989 also said that he butted heads with the KGO Program Director and General Manager for not caring about the real news. This is how ABC Moved Grimsby to WABC in 1968

  • Didn't Bill Applegate later become news director at WBBM in Chicago and WFLD in Chicago.

  • LUCKY 7

  • As to the second question: Late 1962, around the same time as the other ABC O&O's. Also, wasn't it around the same week as this that a 6 P.M. newscast (with Ms. Egan again filling in for Bill Beutel) had Mr. Grimsby messing up the opening (as once on TV Ark's site)?

  • The Grimsby blooper in question was from October, 1982.

  • Ah yes. And I see on that blooper, Beutel was on duty with him.
