in the 8th century just south of Scandinavia, in the Holy Roman Empire, there was a great persecution of pagans. it is my opinion Lindisfarne was not just a plunder raid, but revenge against the abuses of the Roman church! and no doubt Saxon,etc, refugees went far north and told of the holocaust Charlemaigne perpetrated!
