Also, getting someone to move your furniture outta the way may help you get into a proper position - if you're not tiny enough to squeeze between 'em like A.C. is. hehe.

Have you read Hush? It's by Jeph Loeb, fantastically written and one of the best illustrative jobs i've seen in a Batman Graph. You should check it out if you havn't.
Good points, but there's a few important things you may or may not know:
You need to keep your elbows close to your ribcage as you go down, not flared out to the sides, to prevent injury to the rotator cuff. Also keep your head & neck in a neutral position, not hanging down, to prevent strain. Keep your eyes up. Don't think of touching your nose to the ground, think of touching your chin.
