Allah says in the Quran, Prophet (peace be upon Him) is your referee, when evern there are different voices on an issue. Prophet's life of 23 years is well recorded, and authenticated by well defined rules, applied the across the board. Many tradition do not qualify. Sahih undisputed, and consensus exists across a wider set of scholars through the ages after prophet's demise. Bokhari, Tirmidhi only collected passed failed & compiled traditions. No Imams part of the belief, the prohpet is.

Allah may forgive all sins, except SHIRK, JOINING partners with HIM, not accepting the ultimate truth, the teachings sent by Allah in the life of the prohpet, & OVER RIDING it with the teachings of some preacher, Iman, Rabbi, He did'nt say in the Quran or his earlier true scriptures to the prophet, the last prophet did'nt teach/witness in his prohpet life, is also SHIRK. The word KAFIR is defined, one who knows the truth, hides it. who has not found the trutth, not hiding it, is not kafir.

Oppression against oneself or anyone is forbidden in Islam, including wife beating, by anyone on anyone. Even under the well defined condition, a husband is not allowed to hit woman, more than the strike of a tooth brush, which is not beating, & we know that. Beating is something that leaves mark on the skin, or hurt, causes pain, or creates shock waves (slap). Prophet says the best among you is who is best with your wives (family). Real beating exists in all socieities, & not from Islam.

One who knows in his mind there is accountablity after death & the kind hearted, good deed doers are rewarded by the mercy of Allah, and opprssorsors punished, one would not resort to any kind of oppression, be it with wives, children, servants, employees, ordinary people.

Another example is drinking alcohol or intoxicants. People gambled & drank and came to the majid into\xicated or with hangovers. He or she may help change the attitudes or medical condition, but the real help is sincere submission to will of Allah, patience. forgiveness, CSI (Continual Self Improvement Effort), firm belief in Allah's mercy under all circumstances, except Shirk (transgression). Shaitan did not belived in Allah's mercy after his disobedeince, and is therefore arrogant. Humans are sinful, Allah knows that. Sincerity is the key to success.

Read quran dot com and read various translations to understand the Quran, if nayone is serious, not hateful.
Quran is the only truth, because Quran is loaded with evidence & proof & no contradiction, unlike any other scripture in its present form. And, if we read it without hate, we will know what I mean.
First thing we all need is to be good humans to be good believers & Muslims, and then look for the truth with seriousness of purpose, not emotions, fever of hate.

@MrCallumEvans Sura Maeda, Madina, allows marrying people of the book, eating halal no forbidden food with them (pork, liqour). Marriage in Islam is bonding between two families. Prophet (peace) marrid with women from different tribes to bring the tribes closer to the prophet. Prophet is the referee for Muslim for all aspects of life. Quran is the the guidance from Allah. Allahs says then (carefully with pause) and then follow.

That's not really a response to what I asked. The Quran does lay out guidelines for beating women, as I'm sure you know. I don't think that's defensible.
Also, I asked whether or not the Quran thinks unbelievers should be persecuted or forgiven, seeing as though you believe there are no contradictions in the Quran.

@MrCallumEvans The Quran says prohpet is rehmatul lil Alimeen, Mercy & blessing for the all worlds, (human, jinns, animals, beings). The quran preaches forgivenss & kindess for all human beings. Marry clean woman in general & among people of book is allowed. Muslim is only allowed to fight oppression, against fellow human beings, Muslims, and one own self. Islam is all about JUSTICE at all levels, no exceptions. Imran Khans of Pakisan Justice party, which means Islam.

Islam restricts hitting to safeguard women against domestic violence.
Hitting is prohibited if the impact is greater than that toothbrush (miswak)

The point is that Islam doesn't condemn the beating of women. Indeed, it seems to condone it (if not to a limited extent) with the "limits" it imposes. It's a preposterous idea to suggest that Islam's restrictions are there to safeguard women against domestic violence when it should be condemning wife-beating altogether -- if you can't see the irony in your statement then I think you're lost.

Women are so degraded in the Islamic religion, and completely hidden. Men have all the power, and women have none. In Jesus Christ there is neither male, nor female, slave, nor free, Greek nor Jew, but we are all one. He overturned the religious minds of the Jew, the Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Pagans, and He completely changed the politics of the day. We learn in 1 John 5:20 "...Jesus Christ. But the prophet (peace) says the best among you is the one who is good with his family, & I am the best with my wives (family). One is not a Muslim by title, one is Muslim by belief & good deeds. One cannot be a hypcrite and Muslim at the same time Being a Muslim is a bottom up process. Good intention, Good deeds and trust in Allah.
